'Only complaint was we were not out of sight'

BBC News15-02-2025

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC Match of the Day on how he felt about today's victory: "Very happy, especially first half. We were in complete control and dominated through the first 45 minutes. The only and relatively big complaint was that we were not out of sight. I thought we could have been three goals up. We had two disallowed, hit the post, we had three or four other big chances and dangerous situations where we need to get more out of them."What I liked is that we were fairly in control of the second half. They had one good chance through Kudos but besides that not too much. Winning 1-0 away, with a good solid defensive performance, very very good."We were playing away against a good side and sometimes the nature of the game means you can't stay on top. Overall a completely fair and good win."On Kevin Schade: "We are seeing more and more good things from him. He is growing into the role. He is playing and importantly training consistently for many months."

Brentford in advanced talks with Keith Andrews to replace Thomas Frank as new manager

Brentford are in advanced talks with Keith Andrews to replace Thomas Frank as manager. Frank was appointed as Tottenham Hotspur manager, leaving the Bees to search for a new coach and Andrews, who has been working at the club as a set-piece coach since 2024. Andrews is well-regarded at the club and the Independent understands he is now searching for coaches to join his staff in the Premier League next season. Should Andrews be confirmed as the new manager, it would follow a pattern at the club of promoting from within, with Frank succeeding Dean Smith after operating as his assistant. The former Wolves, MK Dons and Blackburn Rovers midfielder thrived as a pundit for Sky Sports on EFL games before opting to work within Frank's structure at Brentford last season. Frank left Brentford after seven years, with Brentford considering a number of options, including Kieran McKenna after Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League. But Brentford believe the 39-year-old has bigger aspirations within the Premier League and have now moved for Andrews as the probable successor to Frank. Francesco Farioli, Kjetil Knutsen and Edin Terzic were also linked with the job, but Andrews appears set for his first managerial role of his career.

Viktor Gyokeres: Striker would prefer move to Arsenal over Man United

Manchester United's hopes of signing Viktor Gyokeres appear to have taken a blow after it emerged that the Sporting Lisbon striker would prefer a move to Arsenal. After failing in their pursuit of Liam Delap, United turned their attention to Gyokeres, who has earned a reputation as the most feared striker in Portugal after plundering 97 goals in 102 appearances for the reigning Primeira Liga champions. After United held exploratory talks with Gyokeres, the forward has let it be known that he wants to join Arsenal, although it remains to be seen whether the London club push ahead with their bid to sign the 27-year-old. Arsenal are thought to be split on the idea of whether they should sign Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. The Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, is known to be a big fan of Sesko, but he rejected the chance to sign the Slovenia international because Leipzig wanted about £60million for the 22-year-old. United have also submitted an offer for the Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo that would amount to £55million but Tottenham Hotspur could now sign him after Thomas Frank's appointment as Spurs head coach. Gyokeres thrived under Ruben Amorim, now the United manager, during their time together at Sporting but it is understood that the striker wishes to play in the Champions League next season. United will not compete in Europe because of their 15th-place finish in the Premier League and their loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final. Gyokeres has a €100million release clause in his Sporting contract CARLOS RODRIGUES/GETTY IMAGES Gyokeres's valuation has been the subject of much discussion in Lisbon this week. He and his representatives thought he would be allowed to leave for about £60million, even though there is a €100million (about £85million) release clause in his contract. 'I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €70million because I never promised that,' the Sporting president, Frederico Varandas, said. 'To this day Sporting has not had an offer for Gyokeres — neither today nor last season.' Gyokeres has already played in England, having spent three seasons with Coventry City in the Championship after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion, before joining Sporting under Amorim. United are in need of a goalscorer after their first-choice striker Rasmus Hojlund endured a miserable season, scoring ten goals in 52 matches in all competitions.

Tottenham and Bayern Munich in 'advanced negotiations over permanent deal for Mathys Tel' after endorsement by Thomas Frank

French forward Mathys Tel is reportedly set to sign a permanent deal with Tottenham Hotspur this summer. Tel — who is currently in Slovakia representing France at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship — moved to north London on loan from Bayern Munich in February, with Spurs paying a loan fee worth around €10million (£8.5m). The 20-year-old scored three goals in 20 appearances during his loan spell — but was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win over Man United in the Europa League final. According to Sky Sport in Germany, talks between Spurs and Bayern are now at an 'advanced stage' over a deal that will see Tel stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It is said that Spurs are set to splash out an additional €35m (£29.8m) to Bayern, on top of the loan fee already paid. Crucial to the deal going through was the approval of new Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank — and Sky claim that has been given. Frank was confirmed as Tottenham's replacement for Ange Postecoglou on Thursday. As well as looking to keep Tel, Frank is understood to want Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo to join him at Spurs. Frank signed Mbeumo for Brentford from French Ligue 2 side Troyes in 2019 and the 25-year-old rewarded him with 70 goals in 242 games — including 20 in the Premier League last season. Mbeumo is also a transfer target for Manchester United but if he does sign for Spurs then he will reunite with multiple familiar faces — after Frank was followed from Brentford by three members of his coaching staff.
