MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Former Mobile Police Department Chief Paul Prine has announced he is running for mayor.

Prine announced his run for mayor at Government Plaza on Tuesday morning — his motto being 'The People's Chief. The People's Choice. The People's Mayor.'
According to a news release from the Prine campaign, his three foundational pillars include:

Prine is the sixth person to announce he is running for mayor, following current Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson, former Mobile County Commissioner Steven Nodine, former District Judge Spiro Cheriogotis, current Alabama State Rep. Barbara Drummond, and former Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste.

Man shoots and kills his mom, then is shot dead by brother, Alabama cops say
An Alabama man fatally shot his mom, then was shot and killed by his brother, police said. Officers responded to the shooting at about 5:40 p.m. June 8, the Mobile Police Department said in a June 9 news release. Traci McDuffie, 52, and her son, 25-year-old Brandon McDuffie, were found dead at a home, police said. Investigators learned Brandon McDuffie shot his mom, then shot at his brother when the brother learned what happened, according to police. A motive for the shooting was not made known. Brandon McDuffie's brother, who was not named, then fatally shot him out of self-defense, police said. 'The death of Traci McDuffie is abated by the death of Brandon McDuffie,' police said, adding that Brandon McDuffie's death will be 'presented to a grand jury.' Traci McDuffie was an 'exceptionally kind individual' who will be missed, one person wrote in a Facebook post.

(WKRG) — A former Bayou La Batre police officer who was arrested in November has now been arrested again, has learned. MCSO: One detained in Eight Mile shooting on Markris Circle According to a Mobile County Sheriff's Office news release, B.J. Squires was arrested today after violating the terms of his bond. Squires was arrested in November following an investigation by the sheriff's office and the Mobile County District Attorney's Office. That investigation led to a grand jury indictment on charges of first-degree rape, second-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree sexual abuse, the release said. The terms of his bond required Squires to 'not depart from State,' but the DA's office received information that Squires had gone to a baseball game in Biloxi, Miss., June 5, the release said. The DA's office immediately filed a motion to revoke Squires' bond and signed a warrant for his arrest, the release said. Hundreds run across iconic Mobile bridge to help Africatown Mobile County Sheriff's deputies found Squires today and arrested him, along with two other individuals, on Dauphin Island Parkway, the release stated.
