Authorities have charged a Blaine man in connection with a shooting outside the city's Northtown Mall that killed a teenage boy Friday.
Two additional suspects are not yet in custody, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.
Ayub Abdullahi Mohamed, 20, was arrested Friday as officers responded to the shooting. He's with one count of aiding an offender to avoid arrest in connection with the ongoing investigation.
The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. Friday in the Best Buy parking lot, with officers arriving to find 15-year-old Sudais Abdi Omar, of Brooklyn Park, suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.
Omar was taken to the hospital, where he died.
According to the criminal complaint, a store employee who called 911 said he saw three male suspects flee into the mall and then out the door towards Sky Zone.
Police found Mohamed, who matched a suspect description provided by witnesses, in the Sky Zone bathroom, charges state.
The other two suspects in the investigation are boys ages 14 and 15, according to the criminal complaint, which refers to them Suspect #1 and Suspect #2.
Mohamed allegedly told police he was in the car with Omar and Suspect #1 and came to Best Buy to pick up Suspect #2, who had been waiting outside.
Mohamed claimed he did not witness the shooting, but was walking back out to the car after using the bathroom when he saw the two suspects running back into Best Buy and screaming that Omar had been shot.
According to the complaint, Mohamed told investigators he saw Omar laying on the ground.
The two other suspects were pacing the parking lot and the second suspect handed him a gun magazine, which police later found in one of Mohamed's socks, he allegedly said.
Mohamed and the two suspects then ran away from Omar, charges state. Mohamed told police he tried to call the other suspects while inside Sky Zone, but his calls were declined.
Authorities have not indicated what might've motivated the shooting.

The chairman of the committee, James Comer (R-Kentucky), has accused the Democratic governors of running states with sanctuary policies that "shield criminal illegal aliens from immigration enforcement." The hearing comes at a time of civil unrest in the country, namely in Los Angeles, following a series of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids that have led to President Donald Trump deploying the National Guard and Marines to California. Locally, a Mexican restaurant in south Minneapolis was the subject of an ICE raid earlier this month that drew a crowd of protestors, some of whom became unruly. Local and federal officials have since confirmed ICE was not conducting a deportation raid but rather carrying out search warrants related to a large-scale drug and money laundering investigation. Walz has not publicly commented ahead of the hearing, but spokesperson Teddy Schann said in an emailed statement that 'Governor Walz is happy to work with Congress, but since Minnesota is not a sanctuary state, one can't help but wonder if this is, perhaps, politically motivated." Trump announced a travel ban on June 5 that restricts people from a dozen countries from entering the U.S., with Somalia joined by Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Sudan, and Yemen. A male allegedly grabbed a female runner and "simulated sexual acts" as she was running along a bike path in Rochester last weekend. On Wednesday, Rochester Police Department issued an appeal to the public regarding the assault. The department says the female was running on the path near the 800 block of 16th Street Southwest around 10 a.m. Sunday, June 8, when the suspect approached her from behind. The suspect grabbed her and simulated sexual acts before she broke away and fled. "The suspect is described as a thin Black male in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a Minnesota Twins beanie and red pants," police said. "This incident bears similarities to a report from April 2025, in which a male suspect matching a similar description inappropriately touched a female runner near the Soldiers Field area." Police are urging anyone with information about the suspect to call Detective Craig Jacobsen at 507-328-6800. Police in St. Paul are searching for a double hit-and-run driver who rear-ended a vehicle and then struck a pedestrian while fleeing Tuesday night. Police tell Bring Me The News that the double hit-and-run started around 10:50 p.m. when the driver of a Nissan Sentra rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of Johnson Parkway and 7th St. The driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended followed the Nissan driver as they fled, later striking a woman near the intersection of Phalen Boulevard and Johnson Parkway. Again, the Nissan driver fled the scene. The following vehicle stopped, with the driver calling 911 while the passenger cared for the woman, who was unresponsive and is now in critical condition at Regions Hospital. The suspect wound up abandoning the Nissan at the intersection of Phalen Boulevard and Maryland Avenue. The suspect's whereabouts are unknown as of Wednesday morning.
