Televangelist Jim Bakker Says He Needs A Million Bucks Or 'I'll Be Out On The Street'
Televangelist Jim Bakker, who was at the heart of one of most notorious religious scandals of the 1980s, says he's in desperate need of cash right now.
And if he doesn't get $1 million, he will lose everything and be homeless.
'If everyone that watches this program will give $1,000, we'll be able to pay our bills and stay on the air,' he said on his show on Tuesday. 'Otherwise we got about another maybe a month.'
He said it's not just his show that's on the line.
'If they foreclose on this ministry, they will take my house too, so I'll be on the street,' he said.
Bakker claimed he hasn't taken a salary himself and has no money of his own.
'We have a big debt,' he said, saying an unnamed 'they' has 'taken millions of dollars from us.'
One of the show's cohosts indicated the financial problems began in 2020, when Bakker was in trouble with a number of authorities for hawking 'Silver Solution' during the COVID-19 pandemic. In one case, he reached a settlement with the Missouri attorney general that included restitution of $156,000.
Bakker at the time also used the threat of an impending bankruptcy to raise funds.
He said on Tuesday that those who give him money will reap other benefits.
'I guarantee you God's going to do something,' he said, later adding: 'God's gonna bless you as you give, because when you give, you're gonna receive.'
Bakker spent the 1980s turning his ministry into an empire that included a TV network and a resort. But it all came crashing down on him as he resigned amid a sex scandal and fraud allegations, the latter of which landed him in prison for four years.
In more recent years, Bakker has fashioned himself as something of a doomsday prophet ― saying on Tuesday, for example, that we're in the 'end times' ― and sells food buckets and other 'prepper' items on his show and website.
The 85-year-old has also had some health issues including a series of strokes in 2020 and a hospitalization last year.

Chase Center serving Filipino flavor to Warriors and Valkyries fans
San Francisco's Chase Center is keeping extra busy these days as the new home of the WNBA's Golden State Valkyries. But while the action heats up on the court, the arena continues to bring fans a familiar taste of the Bay Area. One standout vendor is Sarap Shop, the first and only Filipino restaurant inside the arena. Owned by JP Reyes, the business has become a fan favorite for its bold flavors and cultural flair. "I stopped by Sarap Shop to learn more about the Filipino flavors that await guests each game," Reyes said. "Being able to have this platform, serve our food, and tell our story has been an amazing experience." Among the shop's most popular items is a unique twist on a classic: sinigang-spiced curly fries, the only curly fries in the building. "It's cool to see people walking around, not knowing there's Filipino food here," Reyes said. "Our sign says 'Filipino Flavors,' and seeing fans stop, point, and smile. That's what it's all about." Sarap Shop began as a food truck in the Bay Area, but its team saw a new opportunity through the Golden State Warriors' Taste Makers Program, an initiative designed to bring local food vendors into the Chase Center. "We never expected to actually be selected." Seattle man charged with string of burglaries at the homes of NFL and MLB stars
A Seattle man was charged Friday with a string of burglaries at the homes of prominent current and former football and baseball players, marking the latest example of well-known athletes being targeted in home thefts. Earl Henderson Riley IV, 21, was charged with several counts of residential burglary in both occupied and unoccupied homes, along with first-degree robbery, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Prosecutors say Riley was the ringleader in a series of burglaries that started in February and involved stealing more than $6,000 in Louis Vuitton bags from Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo's home and over $194,000 in high end purses and jewelry from the home of the team's center fielder Julio Rodriguez. The thefts also involved taking several watches worth more than $100,000 from former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman's home and a burglary at the home of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell, who is from Washington, although nothing was stolen in that instance, according to court documents. Prosecutors say there was also an attempted burglary at baseball Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez's home. 'All people deserve to feel safe in their homes, and our office will continue to hold people accountable for criminal behavior,' King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion said in a statement. There have been a slew of burglaries at the homes of well-known professional athletes across the US in recent months. The players have been targeted because of the high-end products believed to be in their homes and sometimes the thefts happen when they are away with their teams for road games. The FBI has warned sports leagues about crime organizations targeting professional athletes. The NFL and NBA have also issued security alerts after burglaries at the homes of such star athletes as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. In a memo obtained by The Associated Press in November, the NFL said the homes of professional athletes across multiple sports have become 'increasingly targeted for burglaries by organized and skilled groups.' Riley is being held in the King County Jail on $1 million bail. It was not immediately clear whether he has a lawyer. The King County Department of Public Defense did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press and a spokesperson from the prosecuting attorney's office did not know whether Riley had a lawyer. The charges were the result of a monthslong investigation in which the county's prosecuting attorney's office worked with six police jurisdictions. Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Gary Ernsdorff said in a statement that their work is not over. 'We still want to go and identify everybody who was involved and see if there are additional people that we can have sufficient evidence to charge,' he said. Riley is expected to enter his initial plea in court during his arraignment June 16. He has another pending case in King County Superior Court in which he is charged with attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree.
