A driver who crashed by the side of the M6 while more than four times the legal drink-drive limit has been jailed.James Black was found unconscious inside his Ford Ranger on a grass embankment on the northbound carriageway near Penrith, Cumbria, on 18 August 2024.Appearing at Carlisle Magistrates' Court, the 47-year-old from Brannock Place in Newarthill, near Motherwell, admitted driving with excess alcohol. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison and must serve a 34-month driving ban when released.
Prosecutor George Shelley told the court: "There were several calls reporting a vehicle all over the road, colliding with traffic cones."On approach [to the scene] police passed three separate collision sites, with debris over three lanes of the carriageway causing danger to road users."Several empty alcohol bottles and cans were found within the vehicle."Black was transported to hospital and gave a blood sample which showed 320 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood - the legal limit is 80mlg. Diddy trial judge tosses juror as prosecutors lay out more evidence

This is a free article for Diddy on Trial newsletter subscribers. to get exclusive reporting and analysis throughout Sean Combs' federal trial. Today, U.S. government prosecutors laid out more of their evidence, including text messages and flight records underlying their racketeering conspiracy and prostitution charges. The prosecution team is expected to rest its case by Wednesday. Here's what you need to know: Ananya Sankar, a paralegal for the U.S. Attorney's Office, walked jurors through some of the evidence she reviewed, including text messages and call logs. The text messages entered into evidence showed that Diddy's employment of male escorts for drug-fueled 'freak offs' was a running joke among his employees. Diddy also asked employees to pick up illegal substances, such as '15 pills of molly,' according to the texts. Meredith Foster, one of the prosecutors, showed jurors text messages sent by Diddy's ex-girlfriend ' Jane ' to his former chief of staff, Kristina Khorram. In the messages, Jane said Diddy had threatened to release sex tapes — suggesting that Khorram knew about at least one of her employer's alleged blackmail attempts. U.S. Attorney's Office special agent Deleassa Penland confirmed flight records belonging to Jules Theodore, a male escort hired to engage in 'freak offs' with Diddy and Cassie Ventura. The line of questioning about the records seemed designed to bolster one of the three charges Diddy faces: transportation to engage in prostitution. 🔎 The view from inside By Adam Reiss, Chloe Melas, Katherine Koretski and Jing Feng Big news: Judge Arun Subramanian dismissed Juror #6 this morning, saying he had 'concerns about his candor and whether he shaded answers to get on and stay on the panel.' The defense made a last-ditch appeal to keep the juror on the panel, filing a 14-page letter yesterday arguing there wasn't a valid basis to toss him, and that doing so would be discriminatory. Juror #6, a 41-year-old Black man, will be replaced by an alternate, a 57-year-old white man who lives in Westchester County. 👨‍⚖️ Analysis: Juror #6's removal, explained By Danny Cevallos The judge decided that Juror #6's conflicting statements about his residence raised serious concerns as to the juror's candor. Let's take a closer look at how this played out. Initially, during voir dire, the juror said he lived in the Bronx. That's a county within the Southern District of New York (SDNY). But later, he apparently told court staff he spent time in New Jersey — which is definitely not in the Southern District of New York. It's not even in the same federal circuit as the state of New York. When jurors are kicked off mid-trial, you get a really good look at how each side feels about a juror. Diddy's defense liked this juror, for whatever reason, and they objected, citing racial diversity concerns. Subramanian countered that his decision was based solely on the juror's inconsistency. Federal law mandates that jurors in the SDNY must reside within the district for at least one year, but it doesn't really define what 'reside' means. Apparently, a court's determination of 'residence' can be guided by a particular juror's perceived lack of credibility. Tomorrow: We expect to hear from Brendan Paul, one of Diddy's former personal assistants, as well as two summary witnesses. Sean 'Diddy' Combs' trial sees juror dismissed after 'conflicting statements'

A juror has been dismissed from Sean 'Diddy' Combs' trial after he was accused of giving inconsistent answers about his residency during jury selection A juror in Sean 'Diddy' Combs ' trial has been dismissed after over a month of the rapper's high-profile federal trial on charges that include racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, following concerns about his honesty. Lead prosecutor Maurene Comey had raised issues last week calling for a dismissal due to a "lack of candour" from the juror. Initially hesitant, US District Judge Arun Subramanian later determined the 41 year old male juror was not forthright about where he lived, having given conflicting statements regarding his residence in both the Bronx and New Jersey. Judge Subramanian expressed reservations, commenting that he had "concerns about his candour and whether he shaded answers to get on and stay on the panel." Jurors partaking in the trial, located in Manhattan, must be residents from the Southern District of New York, encompassing Manhattan, the Bronx, and parts of the Hudson Valley. Subsequently, the judge ruled that the juror be relieved of duty, appointing an alternate— a 57 year old white architect from Westchester County — in his stead. Combs' defence team, however, objected to the removal; one of his solicitors, Alexandra Shapiro, considered it a "thinly veiled effort to dismiss" a Black juror, while fellow counsel Xavier Donaldson contended that this change would result in a less diverse jury. The identities of the jurors - a mix of eight men and four women whose ages range from their 30s to their 70s - are being kept under wraps. In addition, six alternate jurors were picked comprising four men and two women. Sean Combs, better known as the founder of Bad Boy records, has strenuously denied any involvement in crimes of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution, pleading not guilty to all charges. The potential penalties for these allegations are severe, with Combs facing anywhere from 15 years to a lifetime behind bars if found guilty. Tensions rose earlier this month when the presiding judge gave a stark warning to Diddy during proceedings, admonishing him for an alleged attempt to communicate non-verbally with the jury by nodding at them during Bryana Bongolan's testimony, a friend of his former partner Cassie Ventura. With the jury absent from the courtroom over lunch, Judge Subramanian pointedly addressed Combs' legal representative: "I was very clear there should be no facial expressions to the jury, and I could not have been clearer. "There was a line of questioning where your client was nodding vigorously and looking at the jury ... [This was] absolutely unacceptable. "This can't continue or I will give a limiting instruction you won't like, or other measures including barring your client from the courtroom. Do you understand?". Marc Agnifilo, who is representing Combs, assured the judge that such conduct would cease immediately.
