FDCA seizes fake cosmetics worth Rs 71.5 lakh after raids in three districts of Gujarat
The Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) on Thursday said it has seized fake cosmetics worth Rs 71.5 lakh, which were manufactured without any government licence, from three premises in Surat, Gandhinagar and Junagadh districts of the state.
In Surat, a company was found manufacturing massage oils without any cosmetic licence, putting attractive and misleading labels on these products, and advertising them for sale, said officials. These products included 'performance oil', 'stamina energy oil', 'bull massage oil for men', and 'lift up herbal massage oil'. The products were sold on popular online platforms, they said.
FDCA Commissioner Dr HG Koshia said that the residential premises of one Rajesh Dahya Lathia in Surat was raided and a large quantity of packing material and boxes of these duplicate products was found.
In the same case, an FDCA team found a large quantity of duplicate cosmetic products from the house of one Kuldeep Patoliya in Keshod of Junagadh district, which were also being sold on online platforms. A total of 14 samples of these products were taken for testing and analysis while goods worth Rs 55 lakh were seized by the FDCA.
In another case, the Commissioner said in a statement, the FDCA received information about large-scale online sale of fake cosmetics through social media by one Kaushik Dharmesh Radadiya, owner of M/s Wrixty Ayurveda in Surat. The FDCA team raided this premises and found that these products were being sold by printing fake licence numbers on them.
In Pethapur, Gandhinagar, one Pradipsinh Chhatrasinh Solanki, the owner of M/s Dulhan Enterprises, was found making duplicate cosmetic products of a branded company from his home. Following the raid, goods worth Rs 1.5 lakh were seized.

Fellow inmates kill undertrial prisoner inside lockup in Delhi's Saket court complex
An undertrial prisoner was allegedly killed by two others inside the jail lockup in the Saket court complex on Thursday afternoon. The three knew each other, police said. The police said Jaidev and Jitender first banged the head of Aman, 24, on the wall of the cell and then pinned him down and strangled him with their feet. Ankit Chauhan, DCP, South, said, 'Jitender and Aman had old animosity between them due to an incident of assault that happened in 2024 when they both were outside the jail. Aman allegedly assaulted Jitender and his brother with a knife in that incident.' Aman was accused in a case of attempted murder and was brought to the lockup for production before the court. At the time of the incident, several undertrial prisoners were present inside the lockup, the police said. The area has been cordoned off and the security cover increased. In April 2023, shots rang out for close to a minute in the same court complex as a suspended lawyer chased a woman and allegedly fired multiple times at her, before fleeing on his scooter. The lawyer, Kameshwar Kumar Singh, 49, was later arrested from his brother's home in Faridabad. The woman, M Radha, 42, sustained injuries after two bullets grazed her left abdomen and right arm. A lawyer's clerk also received bullet injuries on his right arm. A video of the incident showed Singh training his pistol at Radha on the stairs leading up to the lawyers' block and shooting several rounds at her, even as the woman ran screaming. According to the police, the motive appeared to be personal enmity. The suspended lawyer had filed a case alleging the woman had cheated him out of Rs 25 lakh.

29-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 22 Years for Abducting and Raping Minor Dalit Girl in Uttar Pradesh
BAREILLY: A 29-year-old man was awarded rigorous imprisonment in jail for 22 years by a Pocso court for abducting and raping a 16-year-old Dalit girl from another community and attempting to change her religion. ADGC Brajesh Kumar Pandey told TOI, "The incident was reported on June 8, 2020, when a minor girl, who studied in an Inter College, was abducted by Mohd Haneef (29). The accused then took her to Pilibhit, where she was raped, and he also attempted to change her religion." "The girl somehow managed to escape and return home on June 17. The accused was arrested on September 28, and he was charged under sections of rape, Pocso, abduction, and the SC/ST act. The chargesheet was filed against him in the court in November 2020," he further added. The court of ADJ Ghulam Mustafa found Haneef guilty under sections of rape, abduction, and the Pocso act on May 27. He was awarded 22 years in jail with a fine of Rs 22,000 on Wednesday.

Calcutta HC grants interim bail to influencer Sarmishtha Panoli arrested over Operation Sindoor post
The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted interim bail to social media influencer and law student Sharmistha Panoli, who was recently arrested by Kolkata Police for allegedly posting a video containing communal remarks. The High Court directed her to furnish a bail bond of Rs 10,000. Panoli, who was arrested from Gurugram and remanded to judicial custody till June 13, came under fire after uploading a video on Instagram criticising Bollywood actors for their silence on Operation Sindoor. The post triggered a wave of online backlash, with many users posting threatening comments. Panoli subsequently deleted the video and issued a public apology. Her lawyer claimed that at least four FIRs were registered against her across different police stations in West Bengal. Her arrest was based on a complaint filed by Wajahat Khan Qadri at the Garden Reach police station in Kolkata. The Kolkata Police have now registered an FIR against Qadri, accusing him of uploading 'malicious and inflammatory content' on social media that allegedly hurt the sentiments of a religious community. A senior police officer confirmed that Qadri is currently absconding, and an investigation has been launched. The complaint against Qadri was filed by a religious trust, Shri Ram Swabhiman Parishad, at the same police station where he had earlier complained against Panoli. Authorities say multiple similar complaints have been lodged against Qadri in Mumbai, Assam, and other parts of the country, accusing him of spreading hate speech and making derogatory remarks against religious deities. Qadri's family, however, has defended him, stating he is 'innocent and secular'.
