New light shed on Meghan and Kate's royal dress drama

Perth Now14-05-2025

In his new book Yes, Ma'am: The Secret Life Of Royal Servants, author Tom Quinn claims the clash between the Duchess of Sussex and the Princess of Wales ahead of Meghan and Prince Harry's 2018 wedding was far more mutual — and emotional — than once believed.
The royal bridesmaid dress saga is back in the spotlight — and this time, both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are being painted in a different light.
A former palace staffer told Quinn that the moment was 'blown out of proportion'.
The source revealed, 'Meghan said a few things she regretted, and Kate said a few things she later regretted, but it was all in the heat of the moment. Both women were crying their eyes out!'
The former staff member also claimed the disagreement was 'subtly altered' by the media, becoming a stand-in for broader tensions between Meghan, Kate, and the royal family at large.
The story first made headlines when it was reported that Meghan had made Kate cry — a claim Meghan firmly denied during her 2021 sit-down with Oprah Winfrey.
Instead, she said she had been the one hurt by the exchange, adding that Kate had apologised and even brought flowers.
'It wasn't a confrontation,' Meghan said.

Prince Harry echoed her version of events in his memoir Spare, writing that Kate had messaged Meghan with concerns about the fit of Princess Charlotte's dress.
Meghan suggested a visit to the tailor, but when the two women met in person, Kate allegedly insisted Charlotte's dress was too big and had left her daughter in tears.
According to Prince Harry, he later found Meghan sobbing on the kitchen floor from the stress, but Kate came by with a card and flowers in a gesture of reconciliation.

The six major swipes Meghan Markle took at the royal family up until June

Meghan Markle stepped down as a working member of the British royal family more than five years ago, but she continues to take brutal swipes at the firm. In fact, the Duchess of Sussex has publicly made no less than six jabs at her husband Prince Harry's family this year, and it's only June. Meghan's return to Instagram on New Year's Day, her first time back on social media since 2018, provided the main platform for her many prods. The Duchess's Netflix lifestyle cooking show, With Love, Meghan, and her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, served as her accomplices. Here's a look back at ten times Meghan made a not-so-subtle stab at her estranged in-laws this year. Passionately parched In February, Meghan unveiled the launch of her lifestyle brand, As Ever, previously American Riveria Orchard, through an Instagram video. The Duchess suggested the firm previously prevented her from sharing her passions during her time as a working royal. "Cat's out of the bag," Meghan, who cut a casual figure in jeans, said in the clip. "I'm shocked we've been able to keep this a secret for so long." Meghan said those who followed her axed lifestyle blog The Tig in 2014 would know she has "always loved cooking and crafting and gardening". "This is what I do, and I haven't been able to share it in the same way for the past few years, but now, I can," she said. Cryptic contempt All eight episodes of Meghan's awaited lifestyle series With Love, Meghan debuted on Netflix on March 4 and appeared to be riddled with swipes. The Duchess's first reference to her exit from royal life came in the first episode as she introduced her first guest, makeup artist Daniel Martin. '(Daniel) has just been in my life for the before, during and after , shall we say,' Meghan said cryptically. Free from constraint While the ex-working royal appeared to steer clear from directly slamming the royal family in her show, viewers were quick to find small clues in the episodes about the Duchess's current feelings towards her in-laws. In one episode, the Duchess appeared to hint at her frustration towards the constraints of her former life and suggested she lacked 'creativity' during her brief stint as a working royal. 'I just want to raise a glass to you guys. This feels like a new chapter that I'm so excited that I'm able to share, and I've been able to learn from all of you," she said. 'And here we go, there's a business! All of that is part of that creativity that I've missed so much.' In the trenches In April, Meghan opened up about the early days of her relationship with Harry in her first-ever podcast appearance with friend Jamie Kern Lima. The Duchess used the moment to make a jab at the media intrusion the couple endured when they publicly confirmed their relationship in 2016. She claimed she and the Duke were "in the trenches" in those early days. "You have to imagine, at the beginning, it's all butterflies – but then we immediately went into the trenches together," she told Kern Lima on the The Jamie Kern Lima Show. "Right out of the gate, like six months into dating." Sky News presenter Gabriella Power discussed the moment with To Di For Podcast host Kinsey Schofield, who called the characterisation "absurd" and "over-the-top". Working woes In an interview with the New York Times in April, Meghan appeared to make another dig at the firm as she responded to a question about work. "I need to work, and I love to work," the Duchess said of why she continues to put herself in the public eye despite facing criticism. Prince Harry's wife said she had worked from the age of thirteen, only stopping when she became engaged to Prince Harry in 2016 and quit her job as an actress. Vexed over visions In the seventh episode of her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast, Prince Harry's wife was joined by Cassandra Morales Thurswell, founder of the beauty brand Kitsch, and the pair discussed all things business. They covered "how grit, intentional design, and a scrappy mindset were essential in transforming a humble start into a thriving global business". Speaking about balancing motherhood and business, Meghan appeared to take a swipe at the monarchy and her short stint as a working royal. 'Before I was a mum, I'm going to give a speech with a baby on my hip. I had a whole vision,' she said. 'Then you fast forward, granted I had a lot of external things happening by the time I had both pregnancies and (both) babies. 'But it was not the way (that) I envisioned it."

'Overloading lies': Social media conspiracists claim Meghan Markle faking pregnancy in 'AI-generated' hospital twerking video

Social media conspiracists have taken aim at Meghan Markle's hospital twerking video taken during labour with Princess Lilibet, with many claiming she was not pregnant at all during the infamous clip. In the clip shared by the Duchess of Sussex on Instagram on Thursday, she can be seen moving to the viral Baby Mama dance to help induce Lilibet's birth in celebration of the Sussexes' daughter's fourth birthday. "Four years ago today, this also happened," Meghan, 43, wrote in the caption. "Both of our children were a week past their due dates…so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work - there was only one thing left to do!" However, several critics on Twitter claimed the ex-working royal's bump was too high and wrongly shaped to be real. Other people alleged Meghan's ability to dance at more than 40 weeks pregnant meant she was a "superhuman" or her pregnancy was a sham. "This is crazy. I do not for one second believe this video is real. Who the heck dances like that when readying to labour? No one," one person said. "The bump is mishappen and she still doesn't look pregnant. Overloading lies. AI video." Another person questioned why Meghan was not linked to an IV drip to receive medication nor wearing a hospital gown. "She's not in a hospital gown, not hooked up to a baby monitor," they said. "They wouldn't have started an IV on her when she was still in her street clothes and wouldn't have unhooked it so she could dance." One more person who claimed to be a nurse echoed the sentiment and said Prince Harry's wife would have had a cannula in her hand in labour. Another person said Meghan would not have had the tube inserted into a vein to administer medication while wearing her own clothes. In the video, the Duke of Sussex can be seen pressing play on the baby mama hit by Starrkeisha before busting out his own moves to the tune. Meanwhile, Meghan starts to twerk before the couple move into a rhythm together and gyrate around the room. The mother of two shared four previously unseen photos of Lilibet to mark the special day of the seventh in line to the British throne shortly after midnight on Wednesday, Los Angeles time. In one, Harry held baby Lilibet wrapped in a blanket, while a second photo showed the barefoot father and daughter duo holding hands. In the caption, Meghan said her husband and daughter have the "sweetest bond to watch unfold." "Daddy's little girl and favourite adventurer, Happy birthday, Lili!" she said. More heart-warming black and white pictures showed the mother of two cradling Lilibet on a boat and holding the baby princess in a blanket. The young royal's eyes could be seen on the boat, marking a move away from the Sussexes' typically releasing only images of the backs of Archie and Lilibet's heads as a way to protect their children's privacy. Meghan further said "each day is brighter and better" because the Sussexes welcomed Prince Archie's sister four years ago. Lilibet was born in California in 2021 after her parents stepped back from their royal duties. She was named Lilibet after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, while her middle name Diana is in tribute to Harry's late mother. It's understood the princess has only met her grandfather King Charles once, when the Sussexes visited the UK for the Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

Meghan Markle shares delivery room twerking video to celebrate daughter Lilibet's birthday

Turning four is a big deal and Meghan Markle is celebrating daughter Lilibet achieving the milestone with an Instagram blitz of intimate photos — and even a video of her and Prince Harry dancing in the delivery room on the day she was born. In an extraordinary insight into their private lives, the former senior royals can be seen in a viral TikTok-style video busting a move. Meghan and Harry are known to fiercely guard the privacy of Lilibet and Archie but appear to have changed their tune. Clutching her very pregnant belly and with an IV port in her left arm, in the video, Meghan looks calm and happy as she twerks to The Baby Momma Dance by Starrkeisha from 2013. Prince Harry also makes an appearance throwing down his best dad moves. SEE THE VIDEO IN THE PLAYER ABOVE Meghan joked that the dancing was a last resort to bring on the birth, given Lilibet was a week overdue at the time. 'Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work - there was only one thing left to do!' Meghan wrote alongside the video. Meghan has also shared a photo of a touching moment between Prince Harry and his then baby daughter lovingly making eye contact and another of the pair barefoot and dressed casually walking on a dirt road while holding hands. 'The sweetest bond to watch unfold. Daddy's little girl and favorite adventurer,' she wrote. The first social media post in the birthday photo blitz was of Meghan, apparently on a boat, make-up free and with windswept hair cuddling Lili. 'Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives - and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!' Lilibet is Meghan and Prince Harry second child, their first, Archie, is two years older. She was born on June 4, 2021 — a year after the pair's infamous 'Megxit' from the UK and royal duties. Her full name is Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, a nod to Prince Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth and his mother Princess Diana.
