Monster trucks set to roar this weekend at the WFCU
They are big, they are loud, and they are coming to Windsor – it's the main event: Monster Spectacular 2025 at the WFCU Centre. It's a cross-Canada pro tour making a stop in Windsor on Saturday, June 14th at 1pm. The event promises astounding stunts by monster trucks, high-flying freestyle BMX competitions, dirt bike performances and unique wheelie contests. It's family friendly - with tickets still available for the event up until showtime, including VIP pre-show access passes for an up-close look at the machines and drivers before the event kicks off. For professional monster truck driver and tour champion Michael Vaters – and his powerful, big machine 'Overkill Evolution' – it's always a thrill to take the show on the road across North America and around the world. Vaters has something special planned for the show Saturday. 061325 - car show Michael Vaters Jr. is the tour champion alongside his monster truck Overkill Evolution - they perform June 14 at the WFCU. (Gary Archibald/CTV News Windsor) 'We start the show out with the skills or best wheelie competition,' said Vaters. 'Then we go into a side-by-side racing competition where we just pretty much drag race over the cars and then to finale the event, we do a freestyle. Each truck will go out for 90 seconds on their own and put on the best show that they can.' Vaters comes from a professional stunt driving family. From 1993 to 1998, Vater's mom Pam Vahle was a professional monster truck driver – a pioneering woman driver in a male-dominated sport. Michael Vaters Sr. – Michael's father – is one of the most recognized names in the sport, and for decades has performed the circuit. Vaters Sr. is the owner of Vaters Motorsports and performs with his son in his custom big wheeler – Black Stallion. This family-friendly event also includes super modified lawn mower races, a motocross backflip and a BMX performance by three-time x-games champion, Mike Varga.

Hamilton headaches: Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway closed this weekend
Workers perform maintenance on the Lincoln M. Alexander in Hamilton, Ont. in this undated image. (Courtesy: City of Hamilton) Anyone travelling through Hamilton will need to avoid one of the most popular routes through the city. The Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway, colloquially known simply as the LINC, is closed this weekend for annual general maintenance and asphalt repairs. The eastbound lanes between Gold Links Road to the Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway off-ramp are closed from Friday at 8 a.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. Meanwhile, the westbound lanes are closed from the Red Hill Valley Parkway to Mohawk Road from Friday at 10 a.m. to Monday at 5 a.m. Detours are in place along Mohawk Road and Stone Church Road, but drivers should expect delays due to the heavy traffic volume. The maintenance work includes spot resurfacing and asphalt repairs, milling and paving some sections of the road, graffiti removal, bridge and signage repairs, pavement markings, ditchings, catch basin cleaning and vegetation maintenance. The work was originally supposed to take place from May 30 to June 2, but was rescheduled because of weather conditions.
