Trump open to extending trade talks' deadline, but says it won't be necessary

US President Donald Trump said he's willing to extend the July 8 deadline for completing trade talks with several countries. However, he believes an extension may not be to reporters before attending Les Misrables at the Kennedy Centre, Trump said, "We're rocking in terms of deals. We're dealing with quite a few countries, and they all want to make a deal with us." He noted that ongoing discussions include trade partners like Japan, South Korea, and the European expressed confidence that most agreements would be in place before the deadline. "I don't think it's a necessity," he said when asked about a possible extension. Trump also shared plans to move forward with trade terms soon. "At a certain point, we're just going to send letters out saying, 'This is the deal. You can take it, or you can leave it,'" he said. "We're not quite ready, but we're close."US OFFICIALS SIGNAL FLEXIBILITY FOR 'GOOD-FAITH' NEGOTIATORSTreasury Secretary Scott Bessent told the House Ways and Means Committee that countries negotiating seriously could see the July 8 deadline pushed back."It is highly likely that those countries -- or trading blocs like the EU -- who are negotiating in good faith, we will roll the date forward," Bessent said. "If someone is not negotiating, then we will not."advertisementThis is the Trump administration's first overt indication that it might prolong trade deadlines for nations involved in serious negotiations. He pointed out that the European Union, which had been slow earlier, is now showing signs of "better faith" in the talks. BLOODBATH IN MARKETS AFTER LIBERATION DAY TARIFFS Trump had announced the 90-day pause in tariffs on April 9. This came a week after he unveiled "Liberation Day" tariffs that targeted nearly all countries across the world. The announcement shook global markets, with the S&P 500 dropping more than 12% in four days -- the worst performance since the COVID-19 started their recovery on April 9 when Trump unexpectedly announced the pause. The recovery continued in early May when the Trump team agreed to dial back the triple-digit tariff rates it had imposed on goods from China. Those events have given rise to what some on Wall Street have parodied as the "TACO" trade - an acronym for Trump Always Chickens move led many on Wall Street to jokingly refer to the situation as the "TACO" trade -- acronym for "Trump Always Chickens Out."

Buy or sell: Vaishali Parekh recommends three stocks to buy today — 12 June 2025

Buy or sell stocks: The Indian stock market continued to trade volatile for the sixth straight session on Wednesday. The Nifty 50 index ended higher for the sixth straight session and finished at 25,141. The BSE Sensex gained 123 points and closed at 82,515, while the Bank Nifty index went off 169 points and closed at 56,459. Sectorally, oil & gas, IT, and pharma were the major gainers, demonstrating strength even in a consolidating market. However, Nifty PSU Banks, FMCG, and metal sectors ended the day in the red. In a change from recent trends, the Nifty Mid-cap and Small-cap indices broke their winning streak today. The Nifty Mid-cap 100 Index fell by 0.49%, while the Nifty Small-cap 100 Index went down by 0.53%. However, market breadth remained decisively positive, with advancing stocks significantly outpacing declining ones, as indicated by a BSE advance-decline ratio of 1.24. Vaishali Parekh, Vice President of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, believes the Indian stock market bias has turned slightly cautious as the Nifty 50 index slipped after hitting 25,200 levels. However, the key benchmark index has closed above 25,116, meaning the positive sentiment remains intact. The Prabhudas Lilladher expert said the 50-stock index is facing a hurdle at 25,200, and the index may soon touch 25,600 after breaking above 25,200 on a closing basis. Speaking on the outlook of the Nifty 50 today, Vaishali Parekh said, "The Nifty 50 index, after consolidating since the last two days, witnessed a volatile session with the initial half progressed ahead to scale the 25,200 zones while post-lunch session succumbed to profit booking to end near the 25,150 level with sentiment slightly turning cautious. The index has the 25,000 zones as the near-term support, while on the upside, the 25,500 level can be expected in the coming sessions once there is a breach above the hurdle of 25,200 levels, with overall bias maintained strong." "The Bank Nifty index has witnessed another session of profit booking to slip further from the peak made near the 57,000 zone, and with the 55,800 to 56,000 band maintained as the important support from the current level, the index is still in the strong territory but would need a decisive breach above the 57,000 level to anticipate for fresh upward move in the coming days to maintain the positive bias intact," said Parekh. Parekh said that today, support for the Nifty is at 25000 levels, while resistance is at 25,300. The Bank Nifty will have a daily range of 56,000 to 57,200. Regarding stocks to buy today, Vaishali Parekh recommended these three buy or sell stocks: Lloyds Enterprises, Lupin, and Natco Pharma. 1] Lloyds Enterprises: Buy at ₹ 73, Target ₹ 83, Stop Loss ₹ 70; 2] Lupin: Buy at ₹ 2028, Target ₹ 2150, Stop Loss ₹ 1980; and 3] Natco Pharma: Buy at ₹ 935, Target ₹ 1000, Stop Loss ₹ 900. Viral Mumbai auto driver loses Rs 8 lakh per month income in his side business after he attracts attention of police

Not all fame leads to fortune—sometimes, it brings unforeseen consequences. A Mumbai-based autorickshaw driver, once celebrated online for his out-of-the-box entrepreneurial spirit , has seen his thriving venture abruptly shut down. What started as a smart, demand-driven side hustle earning him between Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakh monthly has now ended under the weight of legal and security driver had ingeniously addressed a major gap near the US Consulate in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. Due to strict security protocols, applicants visiting the consulate were prohibited from carrying their personal belongings, including bags, inside the premises. Spotting a unique business opportunity in this limitation, the autodriver parked just outside the building and offered to safely store bags for visa applicants. His service gained popularity quickly, particularly because no official storage or locker facility existed to a Hindustan Times report, after the driver's innovative setup gained widespread attention through a LinkedIn post, it attracted not only praise but also scrutiny. The recognition came from Rahul Rupani, a product leader at Lenskart, who highlighted the autodriver's daily routine of serving 20 to 30 clients, generating impressive earnings of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per day. Rupani applauded his street-smart business model and noted that his monthly income rivaled that of experienced professionals in the corporate world—despite his lack of formal business training or technical this burst of attention also reached the authorities. As reports of the operation spread, Mumbai Police quickly stepped in. Officials summoned the autodriver and a dozen others who were offering similar services near the consulate. According to a senior officer from the BKC police station, the operations were in direct conflict with local security mandates. The consulate is a high-security zone, and no parking or unauthorized commercial activity is allowed nearby, especially involving the storage of unverified personal police noted that neither the autodriver nor the others involved had obtained any formal permission to provide storage services. Storing random belongings in such a sensitive area was deemed a potential security threat. As a result, the locker service was promptly terminated, and strict warnings were issued to all individuals involved to cease and desist from restarting any similar service in the started as an inspiring example of entrepreneurial grit has ended in silence. The autodriver's story now stands as a reminder: while innovation can spark success, going viral without legal safeguards can sometimes shut the very doors it opens.
