Caspar Fownes is ‘King of the Valley' once more, while Ellis Wong continues strong form
Caspar Fownes rocketed to the top of the unofficial Happy Valley trainers' championship and Ellis Wong Chi-wang continued his strong form as the pair bagged doubles at the city circuit on Wednesday night. 'Things are slowly starting to pick up. There's been a couple of suspensions along the way, but nice to get a win and I'm really grateful for the support I get.' The win was Golden Darci's second from his past three starts and continued an uptick in form for De Melo's countryman Whyte. 'He let down really well and I think Keagan gave him a good ride. He was patient, he waited for the gaps to present themselves and when they did, the horse let down well,' said the trainer. 'He looks like he loves the track. He loves the pace on. 'It's slowly ticking over again,' added Whyte after moving to 23 successes for the season. 'The horses are at their right rating and I've got a lot of older horses that, towards the back of the season, always come good. 'When there's a bit of juice in the ground like this these older horses always let down a bit better. 'Things are coming together nicely. December, January, February were slow with young horses taking their time – just the normal Hong Kong season – but the back end of the season will be nice.'

Several feared dead in India after stampede at cricket celebrations
A stampede broke out as a tightly packed crowd celebrated the sporting win of their home cricket team in the Indian city of Bengaluru, resulting in multiple deaths, local media reported on Wednesday. AFP could not immediately confirm the death toll, which India's NDTV broadcaster reported to have left at least 11 people dead. The Times of India newspaper reported seven dead. An AFP photographer saw an intense crush of crowds as a sea of people crammed the streets. Broadcasters showed police carrying young children in their arms rushing away from crowds, who had seemingly fainted. One unattended young man was sitting in an ambulance, struggling to breathe. Real Madrid icon could be heading to Hong Kong for Football Festival
Hong Kong fans may get to see Real Madrid icon Luka Modric in action during July's Football Festival, according to sources. The Post understands AC Milan, who face Liverpool at Kai Tak Stadium on July 26, are interested in signing the Croatia midfielder. Sky Italia, meanwhile, report a deal is close and that new Milan sporting director Igli Tare travelled to Croatia to speak to the player in a bid to reach a verbal agreement. Modric, 39, will end his trophy-laden, 13-year spell with Real Madrid following this summer's Fifa Club World Cup in the United States. Having joined Los Blancos from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, he won the Champions League on six occasions – starting in each final. In total, he won 28 trophies during his time in the Spanish capital, including the La Liga title on four occasions.
