Nuggets Can Offer Nikola Jokic Support He Needs With New NBA Trade Idea

Nuggets Can Offer Nikola Jokic Support He Needs With New NBA Trade Idea originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Denver Nuggets managed to push the Western Conference Champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, to seven games in the NBA Playoffs. They ran out of gas in that seventh game. Advertisement It is growing more and more obvious just how much Nikola Jokic needs to be supported by a stronger cast of players around him. The Nuggets superstar is one of the best floor and ceiling raisers in the league, however, even Jokic has his limits. One member of his supporting cast that looks worse by the day is Michael Porter Jr. The Nuggets forward struggled mightily against the Thunder, averaging 7.4 points while shooting 32.2 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from 3-point. Porter Jr. is set to collect $38.3 million next season, limiting the Nuggets' ability to make improvements with him on the books. This next trade idea would alleviate Denver from those concerns. May 18, 2025; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA; Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray (27) talks to Denver Nuggets head coach David Adelman after a play against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second quarter during game seven of the second round for the 2025 NBA Playoffs at Paycom Center. Mandatory Credit: Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images Mandatory Credit: Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report suggested a deal with a rebuilding team to help offload Porter Jr. The following trade idea involves linking up with the New Orleans Pelicans to reshape the supporting cast in Denver. Advertisement Nuggets receive: Trey Murphy III, Kelly Olynyk. Pelicans receive: Michael Porter Jr., Peyton Watson, a 2031 first-round pick swap, and a 2032 first-round pick. Giving up the draft capital would be a necessary maneuver to getting another team to take Porter's contract. For the rebuilding Pelicans, that would also create cap space after his deal expires following the 2026-27 season. The Nuggets get a reliable scorer beside Jokic with Murphy. The Pelicans forward averaged 21.2 points per game in 2024-25, shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from beyond the arc. Olynyk is a nice throw-in here as well. The Nuggets would get an opportunity to have a backup they can trust in the frontcourt behind Jokic with the addition. Heat Trade Proposal Would Bring Kevin Durant to South Beach

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Pat Riley and the Miami Heat are entering what could be a very hectic offseason. After trading Jimmy Butler ahead of the NBA trade deadline, the Heat could use a franchise player. Over the years, Riley has never been scared to make a splash move. There could be a couple of big-name players available during the upcoming offseason. One of those players is none other than Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant #35 of the Phoenix Suns during the second half of game four of the Western Conference First Round Playoffs at Footprint Center on April 28, 2024 in Phoenix, Arizona. Photo byCould Miami consider pursuing a blockbuster trade to acquire Durant from the Suns? That is something that has now been suggested. Read more: Celtics Send Epic Jayson Tatum Message on Sunday CBS Sports analyst Sam Quinn has suggested a massive trade between the Heat and Phoenix that would land Durant in South Beach. Here is what the trade would look like: Miami Heat Receive: Kevin Durant Phoenix Suns Receive: Andrew Wiggins, Robert Williams III, Nikola Jovic, 2030 First-Round Pick, 2032 First-Round Pick Portland Trail Blazers Receive: Duncan Robinson Obviously, the trade would be a huge move, including three teams that would have a lot of moving pieces. However, on the outside looking in, the trade could actually make sense for all teams involved. This is just a suggestion, but if Miami wanted to swing big for Durant, they could come up with this kind of trade to make it happen. During the 2024-25 NBA season with the Suns, Durant had another big year. At 36 years old, he played in 62 games and averaged 26.6 points per game to go along with six rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks. He shot 52.7 percent from the floor and knocked down 43 percent of his three-point attempts. Read more: Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors Get Huge Update From Insider Would acquiring Durant alone make the Heat an NBA Finals contender? Probably not, but having him on the roster would make them a much more attractive destination for other players who want to pursue a championship. Giving up Wiggins, Jokic, Robinson, and two first-round picks would deplete a lot of Miami's depth. In order to compete, the Heat would need to get busy in free agency and add quite a few veteran bench pieces. While it's possible that Miami could pull off a blockbuster trade for Durant, there are other potential destinations that are more likely. No one should ever count Riley out on a superstar, but fans should not expect the longtime superstar to be playing in South Beach next season. Nuggets Trade Idea Lands Nikola Jokic Perfect Co-Star

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Denver Nuggets are coming off a disappointing end to their postseason run, falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the second round. This marked the second straight year that Denver fell in the second round, and the team is expected to be very active this offseason. More NBA news: Suns Preparing to Make Big Decision on Devin Booker Amid Roster Rumors With star Nikola Jokic still in his prime, the Nuggets will look to maximize this core group in place. But there could be some changes coming to Denver following another failed title run. In a new trade idea from NBA writer Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, the Nuggets land a perfect co-star for Jokic. Swartz has Denver landing All-Star big Lauri Markkanen from the Utah Jazz. Here is what the deal could look like: Denver Nuggets Receive: F Lauri Markkanen Charlotte Hornets Receive: F Michael Porter Jr. Utah Jazz Receive: G/F Josh Green, PF Grant Williams, F Josh Okogie, F/C Zeke Nnaji, 2027 first-round pick (lottery-protected via Miami Heat, from Charlotte Hornets), 2032 first-round pick (unprotected via Denver Nuggets) PHOENIX, ARIZONA - FEBRUARY 07: Lauri Markkanen #23 of the Utah Jazz attempts to steal the ball from Devin Booker #1 of the Phoenix Suns during the second half at Footprint Center on February 07,... PHOENIX, ARIZONA - FEBRUARY 07: Lauri Markkanen #23 of the Utah Jazz attempts to steal the ball from Devin Booker #1 of the Phoenix Suns during the second half at Footprint Center on February 07, 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona. More Photo byLanding Markkanen could take some of the pressure off Jokic in the frontcourt for Denver. Jokic isn't the best defender, and teams will directly attack him to give themselves a better chance at scoring. But with Markkanen in the mix, teams would need to figure out a different way to gain an advantage. Markkanen could take on the tougher defensive assignments, giving Jokic more energy to run the offensive attack. A trio of Jokic, Markkanen, and guard Jamal Murray would be lethal to deal with offensively as well. All three can space the floor extremely well, and it would force teams to pick their poison on which big man to focus more on. Markkanen is a very capable shooter from deep, which would give the Nuggets even more room to space the floor. But he can also take defenders off the dribble to the basket, giving them a different type of big man than they have been used to. Losing Porter Jr. would be tough, but the writing has been on the wall for him in Denver for some time. Porter Jr. has been in trade rumors for years, and it seems that the Nuggets may want to move on. Denver has multiple different routes that it can go this offseason, but this could be a move to get them closer to winning another title.
