TotalEnergies Expands Malaysia's Portfolio Strengthening its Strategic Partnership with PETRONAS
PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- On the occasion of Energy Asia 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, TotalEnergies (Paris:TTE) (LSE:TTE) (NYSE:TTE) announces the acquisition from PETRONAS of interests in multiple blocks offshore Malaysia and in one block offshore Indonesia, where exploration, appraisal and development programs will be progressed. The licenses, which are all in different maturation stages, cover more than 100,000 km2. TotalEnergies will notably hold, alongside PETRONAS through its wholly-owned subsidiary Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, a 50% operated working interest in Blocks SK301b and SK313, where significant gas discoveries (more than 4 Tcf) were made and are expected to be developed to support gas supply to Malaysia LNG from 2030. TotalEnergies will also hold, alongside PETRONAS, interests in several exploration blocks offshore Malaysia. The transaction is subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approvals. Following the SapuraOMV's acquisition in December 2024, this transaction strengthens TotalEnergies' position in South-East Asia with Malaysia as an anchor point, in partnership with PETRONAS. Building on the successful and long-standing collaboration between the two companies in the upstream business across several countries, Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies and Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, President and Group CEO of PETRONAS, also signed a strategic cooperation agreement to deepen their partnership in exploration and production businesses globally. "TotalEnergies has established itself as a significant gas producer in Malaysia. We are pleased to further expand our presence in the country, which we see as a strategic platform for our future low-cost, low-carbon production and cash-flow growth, underpinned by the exposure to Asian LNG market. TotalEnergies and PETRONAS strategic collaboration, which extends well beyond Malaysia through our multiple joint ventures worldwide, enables us to access a large and diverse portfolio in the country, spanning from exploration to production", said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies. 'For a long time, PETRONAS and TotalEnergies have demonstrated how complementary strengths can unlock new opportunities. Today's signing marks another significant step forward in our shared commitment to responsible growth and long-term value creation. Together, we will pursue and develop advantaged barrels across Malaysia's and Indonesia's frontier emerging exploration blocks. Our focus is on maximising high commercial potential while delivering sustainable value for all stakeholders", said Tan Sri Tengku Taufik, PETRONAS President and Group Chief Executive Officer. Broadening our global strategic collaboration with PETRONAS to Indonesia TotalEnergies has signed an agreement to acquire a 24.5% interest from PETRONAS in the Bobara block, offshore Indonesia, to carry out an exploration work program targeting oil prospects. After completion, TotalEnergies will hold 24.5% working interest in the Production Sharing Contract while PETRONAS will retain the remainder of the working interest and operatorship in the block. *** About TotalEnergies in Malaysia TotalEnergies has been operating in Malaysia since 1985 and is a long-standing partner of the national oil company PETRONAS. 1 Reason to Buy Berkshire Hathaway Stock Like There's No Tomorrow
Berkshire has amassed a giant cash hoard. This cash pile has two complementary benefits. 10 stocks we like better than Berkshire Hathaway › For decades, Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A)(NYSE: BRK.B) has been a reliable way to generate double-digit annual returns. The company's leader, Warren Buffett, is one of the most successful investors of all time. By buying Berkshire stock, you essentially outsource your investment decisions to Buffett -- historically a very wise move. With a market cap of more than $1 trillion, many investors worry that it's too late to buy Berkshire stock. Don't be fooled. Berkshire stock is still an incredible investment for many reasons. But right now, it has a unique advantage that few alternative investments offer. Since the end of 2023, Berkshire has essentially doubled its cash pile. As of last quarter, the business held roughly $350 billion in cash. Buffett has pushed back on the idea that this growing cash pile represents a negative view on markets in general. "Despite what some commentators currently view as an extraordinary cash position at Berkshire, the great majority of your money remains in equities," he wrote in his latest letter to investors. "Berkshire shareholders can rest assured that we will forever deploy a substantial majority of their money in equities." None of these comments should come as a surprise. Berkshire was designed as an investment holding company, and holding equities over the long term is almost always preferred over holding cash. But the signal is clear: Buffett and Berkshire are having difficulties deploying its cash pile into attractive investment opportunities. If there were avenues for investment available, Buffett would undoubtedly deploy the cash. There are only two reasonable expectations for Berkshire's growing cash pile, which now comprises roughly one-third of the company's entire market cap. The first possibility is that Berkshire has grown so large that it can't find large enough investments to move the needle. Buffett has noted in the past that if he managed only $1 million, he could generate 50% annual returns. But for a company as large as Berkshire, only massive companies can generate meaningful results. This limits Berkshire's potential investable universe. While this is a real phenomenon, Buffett could always deploy most or even all of this cash into a highly liquid index fund that tracks the overall market. The fact that he is not doing this means that he'd rather not tie these funds to the market as a whole -- an overall bearish sign for broad market indexes. The second possibility is that Buffett can't find attractive investment opportunities in general. This is more likely than Berkshire being unable to find meaningful investment opportunities, because as mentioned, he could always buy a market index fund with high liquidity. If Buffett can't find good deals, it's a good sign that there simply aren't many bargains out there to be had. What do you want to have during a market decline? Extra cash, and boy, does Berkshire have plenty of that. By buying Berkshire stock today, your upside potential may be limited due to this cash balance. But in a declining market, this is exactly where you want to be. In fact, high cash levels have another advantage that could set you up for the next long-term bull cycle. Extra cash can insulate a portfolio during market declines. This cash also gives you the chance to invest in bargain equities at times when few other investors have extra cash to deploy. This is perhaps the best reason to load up on Berkshire stock today: The company's huge cash pile can set it up for both a bear market and the next bull market. Buffett is famous for his long-term investment philosophy, and over the decades, he has put his money where his mouth is. Many of his biggest holdings have been in Berkshire's portfolio for decades. If equities decline in value across the board, expect Buffett to put all this cash into use, acquiring more shares of his favorite holdings. Is Berkshire's upside potential hampered a bit by high cash balances? Yes, but this cash also gives it plenty of flexibility. If you're nervous about high asset valuations but want to make sure your money stays optimally invested, Berkshire remains one of your best options to bet big on. Southwest Airlines To Equip Entire Boeing 737 Fleet With Honeywell's Runway Safety Technology
Honeywell (NASDAQ:HON) on Monday announced that Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV) is in the process of activating its entire Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) Boeing 737 aircraft fleet with Honeywell's SmartRunway and SmartLanding software designed to increase runway safety. This capability is enabled via the Honeywell Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) already on Southwest aircraft, and more than 700 aircraft have been activated to date. SmartRunway and SmartLanding use aural and visual alerts to increase flight crew situational awareness during taxi, takeoff, and landing and promote stabilized and SmartLanding are certified for most Airbus and Boeing aircraft and numerous business aviation platforms. Honeywell also announced it is currently testing its next-generation runway safety technology, Surface Alerts (SURF-A), with an expected certification for commercial aircraft in 2026, pending regulatory approval. The company said in a press release that this agreement furthers Honeywell's long-standing partnership with Southwest, the world's largest 737 platform operator. In 2015, Southwest selected Honeywell flight-deck systems for its 240-unit order of 737 MAX airliners, adding to its 737 Next Generation models flying with Honeywell cockpit avionics. Southwest was also the first airline to incorporate Honeywell's Integrated Multi-Mode Receiver technology into its fleet. Shifting focus to international aviation, a recent crash in India has brought safety regulations to the forefront of industry discussions. India's aviation ministry is reportedly considering temporarily grounding the country's Boeing 787-8 fleet following a catastrophic Air India crash that killed over 240 people near Ahmedabad. The fatal incident occurred when Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London, crashed moments after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Air India operates 34 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, the largest domestic fleet of this type of aircraft. The airline could be scrutinized over its maintenance practices.
