Walsh breaks 100m butterfly world record twice in one day

MIAMI : American Gretchen Walsh crushed her hours-old world record in the 100m butterfly with a blistering 54.60sec to win the final at the Tyr Pro Swim Series meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday.
Walsh had clocked 55.09sec in the heats to improve on the world record of 55.18 she set at the US Olympic rials in Indianapolis on June 15 last year.
The American settled for silver in the event at the Paris Olympics behind teammate Torri Huske, who was a distant second in Saturday's final in 56.59.
Walsh's 100m fly exploits came a day after the two-time Olympic relay gold medallist joined Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom as the only women to break 25 seconds for the 50m butterfly, clocking 24.93 to win the final.
