Kansas Gets Major Transfer Portal News on Wednesday
The Kansas Jayhawks are coming off a disappointing season for their standards. They went 21-13 and failed to reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2004-05 college basketball season.
Jayhawks head coach Bill Self knew hitting the portal this offseason would be crucial to getting the program back on track. He already landed commitments from Illinois transfer small forward Tre White and Loyola Chicago transfer point guard Jayden Dawson.

And on Wednesday, Kansas landed another one in St. Bonaventure shooting guard Melvin Council.
Kansas announced the move on social media, sharing that Council had signed and made things official.
Self spoke about the addition of Council.
"We're very excited to announce Melvin Council Jr. has signed," Self said. "He's a 6-4, long, rangy guard that can play with the ball and without the ball. Melvin will remind our fans physically and athletically of Tyshawn Taylor. He's a superior athlete who can score the ball and has the potential to be one of the more elite defenders that we've had in recent memory."

Council spent last season at St. Bonaventure after previous stops at Wagner and Monroe College (JUCO). The Rochester, New York native averaged 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game in his lone year with the Bonnies.
"They want to play fast, similar to when they had Frank Mason and Devonte Graham, and that's how (Self) is looking at the backcourt," Council told 247Sports.

With Council on board, Kansas has now added three players from the transfer portal. But it's also seen some departures.
Power forward Zach Clemence is headed to Texas A&M, shooting guard AJ Storr transferred to Ole Miss, point guard David Coit landed at Maryland, and small forward Rylan Griffen and shooting guard Rakease Passmore have yet to announce their next move.

Georgia Tech Hits Home Run Hiring James Ramsey as Coach
Georgia Tech Hits Home Run Hiring James Ramsey as Coach originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When it comes to building a winning program, Georgia Tech just swung for the fences, and connected. The Yellow Jackets have named James Ramsey as their new head baseball coach, and the reaction from players, coaches, and alumni has been nothing short of resounding support. A former All-American at Florida State and a rising star in the coaching world, Ramsey now takes the reins of a storied program with high expectations and deep tradition. Advertisement But for those close to the game, Ramsey's promotion was more destiny than surprise. 'James is one of the very best people I've had the privilege to play alongside,' said Minnesota Twins assistant GM Alex Hassan. 'He's an optimist with a positive mindset, always willing to put in the work to get better day after day.' That relentless drive has already paid dividends at Georgia Tech. Over the last seven seasons on staff, Ramsey helped guide the Yellow Jackets to three NCAA Tournament appearances while shaping the program's offensive identity. In 2025, Georgia Tech ranked second in the ACC in team batting average (.304) and first in slugging percentage (.539), marks that reflect his player development prowess. 'His ability to coach baseball athletes at the highest level is self-evident,' said Kyle Boddy, founder of Driveline Baseball. 'He is also one of the earliest adopters of modern training methods and technologies that have become the standard of elite-level baseball coaching.' Advertisement What sets Ramsey apart isn't just his resume, it's his connection to the players and the culture. 'He treats each person he comes in contact with… as though they're one of the most interesting people in the world,' Hassan added. 'You always sense his genuine interest in others.' Georgia Tech fans have seen firsthand what that passion looks like in the dugout. As associate head coach under Danny Hall, Ramsey helped bring in top-25 recruiting classes while also serving as the Jackets' hitting coach. The transition feels both smooth and symbolic. Hall himself endorsed the hire. 'I'm thrilled that James Ramsey is being named head coach,' Hall said. 'He impacted our program in every way.' Advertisement Ramsey's leadership style is rooted in energy, innovation and a deep respect for Georgia Tech's legacy. But his supporters say it's his character that will carry him far. 'James is a man of faith, family, and baseball,' said Tech legend Matt Wieters. 'His passion and knowledge… is exemplary.' As the Yellow Jackets look ahead to the 2026 season, there's renewed energy on The Flats. A hometown hero is taking over, not just with plans to win, but with a vision to elevate. And now, Tech fans have a new name to rally behind: Ramsey. The Kansas City Chiefs hope to keep a near decade long run going atop the AFC West, but their continued success namely on the offensive side hinges on what they get out of the wide receiver position.
The Kansas City Chiefs hope to keep a near decade long run going atop the AFC West, but their continued success namely on the offensive side hinges on what they get out of the wide receiver position. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. More than any offseason in recent years, there is a feeling of vulnerability for the Kansas City Chiefs. A one-game sample from Super Bowl LIX has resonated in a major way, defining early expectations for the team next season. Advertisement Now is that fair for the champions of the AFC five out of the last six seasons? Maybe not, but the final game of the 2024 season did expose some flaws that no other team besides the Philadelphia Eagles exploited to such an extent. Some of those rest on the offensive side where the Chiefs struggled at times to even threaten a move of the chains. While the Eagles' outstanding defense turned in a legendary performance, there were glaring issues with the Chiefs not stacking up. One of those pain points remains at wide receiver. Andy Reid has some puzzle pieces at the position that either he must make a fit or choose to disregard. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are the two young stars of the group counted on for the biggest impact week to week. However, separate injury and off-the-field issues have their prospects for the entirety of 2025 in question. Advertisement Hollywood Brown like Rice missed most of last season with an injury so his return will be something to monitor. Juju Smith-Schuster remains in the fold while those further down the depth chart including Skyy Moore and Justyn Ross are in danger of being the odd ones out. There are many assets who provide many of the same talents for this offense. That means inevitably there will be a select few who will not make it through the summer once the Chiefs cut down to a final 53. With that in mind, what will the Chiefs need from their wide receivers? The Chiefs have not had a true No. 1 really since Tyreek Hill left and have gotten by just fine with tight end Travis Kelce being that go-to target. Heading into his final season, it's hard to expect that same level of performance. Advertisement Clearly, Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs receivers have a variety of challenges for each player spanning from improvement to making the roster altogether. As the players and coaching staff work through those trials this summer, they will need the pieces to come together to keep this machine operating at a high level.
