Major traffic signal improvements coming to Murfreesboro
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — Fourteen signalized intersections in Murfreesboro will receive high-tech improvements in order to help the flow of traffic in a highly traveled area.
On Thursday, March 27, the Murfreesboro City Council approved a $5.35 million construction contract to start the Rutherford Adaptive Signal Control Technology (ASCT) Project.
According to officials, the technology monitors traffic in real-time and will automatically adjust signal timings to reduce congestion and keep motorists moving. The project will cover Rutherford Boulevard (Southeast Broad Street to New Laccases Highway) and East Northfield Boulevard (New Lascassas Highway to Highland Avenue).
'We'll develop timing plans and algorithms within the software package. It will monitor that and run in the background and make recommendations on specific timing patterns in specific events,' said Jim Kerr, Murfreesboro's transportation director.

Murfreesboro said the ASCT project is funded by a $4.86 million grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and $536,127 in local matching funds through the City CIP budget and reallocated FY22 CIP funds.
Per Thursday's press release from Murfreesboro, the city will take the following actions using the ASCT Project funding:
Upgrade each of the signalized intersections with new signal control cabinets and internal control equipment
Install fiber optic communication cable and hardware along the entire corridor
Install corridor and system vehicle detection infrastructure and communications
Install 12 CCTV cameras
Install pedestrian signals at selected signalized intersections
Develop and implement new traffic signal timing for each intersection and system as a whole

The project is also going to expand Murfreesboro CCTV system by adding 10 new cameras, bringing the total number of cameras up to 63. Officials said this will give them strategic visual coverage of important locations in the city, as well as help them monitor and evaluate traffic progression.
In addition, TDOT said the ASCT Project will help reduce emissions and improve state air quality.
As Murfreesboro continues to see rapid growth and development, city officials believe these new signals will help keep cars moving instead of wasting time at stoplights. Leaders also hope the project will future-proof the city.

Miami-Dade County residents who need help paying their rent have the opportunity to apply for housing assistance in apartments located in buildings participating in the Project-Based Voucher program, which makes certain rental units affordable for low-income tenants. Applications to join the waitlist for the Project-Based Voucher program will be accepted online only starting Monday, June 9 on the county's website. Applications are available in English, Spanish and Creole. Under the program, tenants pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income, plus applicable utilities, during their participation. Although rental prices have adjusted in Miami-Dade County and there is more rental inventory, the average rental cost stands at $2,719 per month, according to the most recent report from the RentCafe website. Differences between the Project-Based Voucher program and Section 8 The Project-Based Voucher program is tied to the apartment, and when the tenant moves out, they don't take it with them, but rather make room for another person in need. Section 8, on the other hand, is granted to the individual, who can transfer it when moving to another project in the private market that accepts that type of subsidized housing plan. The waiting list for the Project-Based Voucher program focuses on buildings or developments with multi-room apartments, many of which serve residents with tenant vouchers (Section 8) and people requiring supportive services, seniors, people with disabilities and formerly homeless residents. Some of those buildings are located in Little Havana, downtown Miami, North Miami, Miami Gardens, Opa-locka and South Miami, to name a few neighborhoods in the county that have apartments dedicated to the housing assistance plan. The need for affordable housing has become a crisis since the rise in rents during COVID-19, leading thousands of Miami-Dade residents to sign up for the Section 8 waitlist. In 2021, more than 90,000 people signed up, and in 2024, when the list reopened, 70,000 people applied on the first day alone to join a waitlist that had space for 5,000. How to apply for the housing voucher program Applications can be completed online from Monday, June 9 at 8 a.m. to Friday, June 20, at 11:59 p.m. Those without computer access can complete their application at the public libraries that offer this service: the Main Library in downtown, 101 W. Flagler St., Miami North Dade Regional Library, 2455 NW 183rd St., Miami GardensWestchester Regional Library, 9445 Coral Way, MiamiMiami Beach Regional Library, 227 22nd Library, 14850 SW 280th St., Homesteadand at various Community Resource Centers throughout the county. One application per household is allowed. Once you have provided all the information on your application, you will receive a confirmation number to acknowledge successful submission. Those selected will receive notification from the Miami-Dade County Housing and Community Development Department by email or to the address provided when completing the application. Priority is given to those on the 2024 waiting list, including homeless individuals, veterans, vulnerable populations, households with special needs, and individuals with mobility, hearing or vision impairments. Income limit for housing assistance Individuals 18 and older are eligible to apply for the Project-Based Voucher program waiting lists. Each year, the income limits that allow applicants to receive assistance change, and for 2025 they are: single person, $43,400 household of two, $49,500household of three, $55,570household of four, $61,950household of five, $66,950household of six, $71,900 More information can be found on the county's website. ‘Complete transformation': Popular boat launch reopens in Hendersonville
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After years of planning, a boat launch along Old Hickory Lake has a new look. Sanders Ferry Boat Ramp in Hendersonville now has three new boating docks, plus a renovated ramp. The park itself has long been a go-to spot for residents and tourists. 'There are over 100,000 people that visit this park per year. A lot of that is for this boat ramp,' said Hendersonville Parks Director Andy Gilley. 'For a long time it was a hidden gem that we kind of kept to ourselves, but during COVID, Sanders Ferry became open to everyone. We have every event you can think of here, it is a focal part of our parks department, it is a major major part of our city.' Hendersonville Parks & Recreation reserves parking spots exclusively to honor military veterans The TWRA-led upgrade is part of a larger state initiative, named in honor of beloved fisherman and former TV host Bill Dance. It's geared towards increasing visitation to Tennessee lakes. In a state filled with natural beauties, replacing boat docks may seem like a minute task, but local leaders believe it will enhance the experience and broaden the tourist appeal along Old Hickory Lake. 'These are much longer [docks] and they extend out,' explained Gilley. 'These would be what you call tournament docks. So before it was even open, we already had calls from out-of-state people wanting to bring fishing tournaments here. We're going to see high school state championship fishing tournaments here, professional tournaments… but the biggest winner here is the city of Hendersonville residents, who are here every day.' ⏩ Gilley called the renovation a 'complete transformation,' as the original docks and boat ramp had been in-use at Sanders Ferry since the 1980s and '90s. Golden Rapture Announces the Completion of a Sampling Program to Test Newly Identified High-Priority Magnetically Active Areas of the Property
Edmonton, Alberta--(Newsfile Corp. - June 5, 2025) - Golden Rapture Mining Corporation (CSE: GLDR) ("Golden Rapture" or the "Company"), is pleased to report that a Spring surface sampling program has been completed at its Phillips Township Property, Rainy River District, NW Ontario. This sampling program was designed to test the areas of strong anomalies recently identified in our low-altitude, high-resolution drone magnetic survey. The results identified new high-priority targets, confirming that the survey area is dominated by strong linear anomalies throughout the project area, with the strongest occurring in the northeast corner, where intense deformation and folding are present.
