Plans deferred for new homes in West Sussex village
Outline plans to build 49 homes in a West Sussex village have been deferred by a council.Members of the planning committee at Chichester District Council asked for more information about the application for land east of Inlands Road in Nutbourne. Concerns were raised by some councillors about the capacity of the Thornham Wastewater Treatment Works and the impact another batch of housing would have. While West Sussex Highways filed no objection, councillor Roy Briscoe (Con, Westbourne) suggested the application be deferred to allow the authority to have "a really good look" at it, and reassess the information provided and its conclusion.
Network Rail pointed out that the level crossing on Inlands Road was considered high risk and was critical that applicant Metis Homes Ltd, had not engaged with them earlier.But it was road safety which proved to be the biggest sticking point, especially given the narrowness of Inlands Road, according to Local Democracy Reporting Service. Officers were worried that a delay would see the applicant launch an appeal against non-determination, especially as the council cannot demonstrate that it has a five-year supply of housing land.Members agreed the deferral by nine votes to two with one abstention.

Wetherspoons said the new Pizza Club will be available across 520 pubs. Meanwhile, the pub chain is also shaking up its Ale Wednesday Club deal meaning customers can now get pints from £1.49 from Monday to Wednesday across 651 pubs. STRUGGLING households could bag cost of living payments worth up to £1,000 - but need to act fast. There are just hours left for thousands to apply for cash that could act as a financial lifeline. 1 The payments are from the government's £742million Household Support Fund being distributed by councils in England. Local authorities have until next year to dish out their share of the fund - but once the cash is gone, it's gone. And many councils are already handing out the support through cash or vouchers with set windows for applications. Residents in Portsmouth in financial hardship now have until 12pm tomorrow (June 12) to apply for an exceptional hardship payment worth up to £1,000. People on Universal Credit and other benefits can apply but you don't need to be. And applications may also close early if the funds have been used up. To qualify for the cash, you'll need to provide evidence of your income and bank accounts. You also need to tell authorities what you've tried to do to improve your financial situation and why you need help. The exact amount you receive depends on household size -the maximum amount is for six or more of £800. Whereas one person gets £350, two people £420, three people £500, four people 600, and five people £700. Manchester City sign Tijjani Reijnders to take spending this week past £100m
Manchester City have taken their early summer spending to more than £100m after making Tijjani Reijnders their fourth signing in three days. The Netherlands midfielder has arrived from Milan for €55m (£46.6m) and joins Rayan Aït-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki at the club. All four will be available for the Club World Cup, with City's first match against Wydad AC taking place next Wednesday, after Reijnders signed before Tuesday's deadline. Reijnders has a five-year deal as Pep Guardiola looks to revitalise his squad after an underwhelming season by the club's standards, finishing a distant third in the Premier League and collecting no silverware thus far. City were also active in the January window, spending more than £180m on four players. Their outlay in 2025 stands at £288m. Reijnders said: 'City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities. Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years. 'It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League.
