The son of Jagmohan Singh, an assistant sub-inspector and wireless operator with Punjab Police, and Amritpal Kaur, a teacher, Jaskaran drew inspiration from his family's service background. His grandfather, Karnail Singh, served in the Indian Army, motivating him to serve the nation. Jaskaran completed his schooling at AS Modern School in Khanna and earned a Bachelor of Technology in Production and Industrial Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.
Despite the competitive nature of the exam, he emphasised that aspirants do not need to spend large sums on coaching. "I prepared mostly on my own, studying from my native village," he said. For his mains exam, he chose Punjabi literature as an optional subject. He advised future candidates to understand the preparation's entry and exit points and to have a professional degree as a fallback to avoid career uncertainty if the exam is not cleared.
"Thorough practice of previous years' questions and confidence are key. There is no need to pay hefty coaching fees. I am an example of that," Jaskaran said. Before this success, Jaskaran served in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in Andhra Pradesh after his earlier UPSC attempts. His journey exemplifies perseverance and self-reliance in one of India's toughest examinations.

1,363 Agniveers complete training at Army Service Corps Centre (North)
As many as 1,363 Agniveers of the Indian Army completed their training and passed out successfully at a parade held at Army Service Corps Centre (North) in Bengaluru on Wednesday. They belonged to the fifth batch of Agniveers to undergo the training that commenced on November 1, 2024. Lt. Gen. J.K. Gera, Commandant, ASC Centre & College, reviewed the parade. In his address, he urged the young soldiers to imbibe the ethos of imandari, wafadari, and bahaduri (integrity, loyalty, and courage). The ceremony was attended by parents of the Agniveers and all the parents were honoured with the Gaurav Padak instituted by the Indian Army as a token of recognition of their gesture of encouraging their wards to join the Indian Army in service of the nation. The Army Service Corps Centre (North) is a premier institute imparting training to mechanical transport drivers to support the Army Service Corps units for the whole of the Indian Army. The Agnipath scheme was introduced by the Union government on June 14, 2022 for the recruitment of soldiers into the three services of the Armed Forces.

Prisoner escapes from police custody at PGI Chandigarh
Chandigarh: A prisoner brought to PGI for treatment from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, escaped from police custody on Monday night. The accused, identified as Gopi, a resident of Mohalla Ravidas Nagar, Hoshiarpur, was lodged in Hoshiarpur jail since April 19, 2021, in connection with two cases under the NDPS Act. According to details, Gopi was initially sent to GMC Amritsar for treatment from May 29 to May 30. On May 31, he was referred to PGI Chandigarh, from where he managed to escape from Punjab Police custody around 8.30 pm on June 2. At the time of the escape, ASI Vijay Kumar and ASI Suram Chand of Hoshiarpur Police were assigned to monitor him. The incident was reported to senior officers by ASI Satpal Singh from Hoshiarpur police lines. Following this, Sector 11 police recorded statements from the police personnel involved. An investigation has been launched, and departmental action against the officers concerned has been recommended. A new case has been registered under sections 261 and 262 of the BNS. A special operation is in progress to re-arrest the fugitive. For this, several police teams have been formed.
