What Is Abhijeet Bhattacharya Meme In 'Sitaare Zameen Par' That Everyone Is Talking About?
Last Updated:
Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya found a surprise mention in Aamir Khan's upcoming 'Sitaare Zameen Par' and the meme community has gone berserk.
Aamir Khan's latest outing on the screen, 'Sitaare Zameen Par', has been met with excitement, new-found hope for non-masala commercial cinema, calls for boycott, and lastly, the cheeky reference to a vintage meme that has lived on the Indian Internet since the dawn of time. The unflattering meme that has made it to the upcoming Aamir Khan Productions movie has something to do with the melodious singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya. Yes, the same singer who gave us Bollywood gems such as 'Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha', 'Suno Na Suno', 'Chand Taare', 'Mere Khayalo Ki Malika', 'Baadshah O Baadshah', 'Tauba Tumhare Ishare', 'Husn Hai Suhana', 'Tan Tana Tan' among many, many other numbers.
What exactly is Bhattacharya doing in 'Sitaare Zameen Par' and what's the meme?
For the unversed, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' that stars Aamir Khan in a pivotal role, is a 'spiritual" successor of 2007's highly-acclaimed and dearly loved 'Taare Zameen Par' that followed the everyday life of Ishan Awasthi living through an undiagnosed dyslexia and the alienation and ridicule that engulfs his life until he feels seen by a boarding school substitute art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh. 'Sitaare Zameen Par', on the other hand, is about a basketball coach who is instructed by the court to train a team of intellectually disabled players after a series of events takes place in his life.
The trailer of 'Sitaare Zameen Par' dropped on YouTube on May 12 and is already doing huge numbers on the platform. At the time of publishing this, the trailer uploaded on Aamir Khan's channel 'Aamir Khan Talkies', has brought in over 5 crore views and the comments under the now-viral 3 and a half minute trailer are overwhelmingly positive.
The fans have rallied behind Khan for bringing real persons with real disabilities on the big screen, praising the perfectionist for giving them the much-needed representation in a society that mostly excludes them. The wholesome nature of the movie has inspired parents to write down heartfelt message for the actor who is eager to tell a motivational tale to the theatres.
'My Daughter is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Film like this so inspiring for parents like us. I am so much thankful to God for choosing me to take care of my angel daughter. Thank you Amir sir for bringing focus and awareness on this topic. Child is not disabled, they are just different and very very special," a user wrote.
'My son is on autism spectrum , the trailer made me cry and laugh at the same time. Hope this movie brings some awareness and respect for children's and individuals who are with special needs .. all the best, (sic)" wrote another.
Abhijeet Bhattacharya Meme
The trailer also brought back an insult directly aimed at singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya that, over the years, has turned into a pop-culture phenomenon that is brought to life every time the singer drops a hot opinion or voices a controversial statement.
Typed by a user named 'Archit Arya", the YouTube comment takes shots at the singer while also praising him for his singing skills.
'Aapki voice mein bahut sadgi hai Abhijeet Bhattacharya ji par aadmi suar ho." The comment roughly translates to, 'There is a simplicity in your voice Abhijeet Bhattacharya Ji but as a person you are a pig."

The passing mention of the meme in the trailer of 'Sitaare Zameen Par' made Indians instantly google the 'suar" remark.

Calls For Boycott
A section of social media users were reminded of Aamir Khan's visit to Turkey during the pandemic in 2020 when the actor had travelled to the country to shoot portions of 'Laal Singh Chaddha'. While there, Khan met up with the First Lady Emine Erdogan.
Indian citizens have taken a strong stance against Turkey after the country publicly supported Pakistan when the Indian Armed Forces responded with a series of missile strikes on terror camps in Pak and PoK under 'Operation Sindoor" on May 7. India's retaliation came a couple of weeks after 26 innocent tourists were killed in Pahalgam on April 22.
Plagiarism Controversy
Social media users on 'X' quickly noticed the eerily similarities between 'Sitaare Zameen Par' and 'Champions', calling Khan's cinema a 'frame-by-frame' copy of the latter.
'Champions' that stars Woody Harrelson, is the Hollywood adaptation of Spanish film 'Campeones'.

'Sorry sir, ye to nahi milega aapko': Rajeev Khandelwal on how he handled sexual harassment
Rajeev Khandelwal, an actor known for his roles in films like Aamir and Table No. 21, has openly discussed his experiences with the casting couch in the Indian film industry and how complicated it was for him to handle it. (Also read: The Secret Of The Shiledars trailer: Rajeev Khandelwal leads a desi Indiana Jones-style series. Watch) In an interview with Zoom, Rajeev discussed how difficult it can be for outsiders to get work and how he handled sexual harassment during that phase. The Kahii To Hoga actor emphasised that it is important for an actor to realise who he/she is and how he/she wants to achieve success. "It can be very difficult and very easy to handle it, too. You have to identify, who you are. The sooner you identify who you are and who you want to be. Kya main saam daam dhand bhed kar ke success kamana chahta hu (Am I someone who wants to achieve things through persuasion, price, punishment, and division) or am I that personality who would not find any happiness by doing all of this? I am a person who wants to earn every smile and appreciation that I get," Rajeev said. Rajeev mentioned that he took it upon himself to take charge of his career, stressing that he would not want to give anyone the luxury of owning his destiny. "It is tough to fight temptation, and easy if you know who you are. I would tell them, Sorry Sir, mere se nahi milega aapko (you would not get it from me) and in my head I would think, 'Are you the one who would write my destiny? Sorry, boss, you would not write my future, I would do that. I don't give importance to one individual that this will make or break my life," he added. Rajeev was last seen in a mystery thriller series directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, which also featured Sai Tamhankar. Inspired by the Marathi novel Pratipashchandra, the series blends historical intrigue with modern adventure, drawing comparisons to Indiana Jones. It premiered on JioHotstar on 31 January.

Housefull 5 box office collection day 10: Akshay Kumar comedy earns Rs 162 cr; surpasses OMG 2, nears Kesari
Returning to the comedy franchise Housefull 5 has reaped rich dividends for Akshay Kumar, who has achieved his first Rs 150 crore hit in five years. While his 2023 film OMG 2 also achieved the feat, it was headlined by Pankaj Tripathi. Kumar's last film as a lead to breach the Rs 150 crore mark at the domestic box office was Raj Mehta's 2019 comedy Good Newwz. On day 10, its second Sunday at the domestic box office, Housefull 5 earned Rs 12.3 crore. This was an improvement on its Saturday earnings of Rs 10.2 crore, a further increase from its Friday figure of Rs 6.6 crore. After crossing Rs 100 crore on its first Monday, the film had finished its opening week at Rs 133.58 crore. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the current domestic box office collection of Housefull 5 stands at Rs 162.69 crore. Thus, the film has already crossed of Kumar's previous Rs 100 crore club members. These include Toilet – Ek Prem Katha (Rs 134.22 crore), Rowdy Rathore (Rs 133.25 crore), Sky Force (Rs 131.44 crore), Rustom (Rs 127.49 crore), Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 117 crore), Holiday – A Solider Is Never Off Duty (Rs 112.45 crore), Housefull 3 (Rs 109.14 crore), Housefull 2 (Rs 106 crore), and Gold (Rs 104.72 crore). Adarsh wrote on X, 'Housefull5 posts a solid second weekend, recording impressive numbers on Saturday and Sunday… The noticeable growth on these two days, in particular, is certainly a positive sign. Going forward, Housefull 5 needs to maintain its momentum to achieve a healthy total, especially with Sitaare Zameen Par expected to capture a significant share of the market.' The other films in Kumar's Rs 100 crore+ club are towards the Rs 200 crore mark. These include 2.0 (Rs 189.55 crore), Housefull 4 (Rs 194.60 crore), Mission Mangal (Rs 202.98 crore), and Good Newwz (Rs 205.14 crore). Housefull 5 has another four days to perform sans competition before Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par enters the race. Directed by RS Prasanna, the spiritual sequel to Aamir's 2008 directorial debut Taare Zameen Par will release in cinemas this Friday on June 20. Beyond the lack of competition, Housefull 5 seems to have benefitted from multiple other factors. Firstly, it's part of a successful franchise which dates back 15 years to 2010. The first Housefull, directed by Sajid Khan, and starring Kumar and others, also crossed the Rs 75 crore mark at the domestic box office. The second, third, and fourth instalments breached the Rs 100 core mark, and Housefull 5 is yet to beat the figure achieved by the previous instalment which released in 2019. Also Read — Housefull 5 director defends Akshay Kumar-starrer amid criticism over sexist humour: 'My characters are flawed, so they will do things which are unacceptable' Secondly, Housefull 5 boasts of an ensemble cast, which is bigger than any of its previous instalments. Returning actors include Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Johnny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Ranjit, and Shreyas Talpade. New actors joining the franchise include Fardeen Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Sonam Bajwa, Chitrangada Singh, Soundarya Sharma, Nargis Fakhri, Dino Morea, and Nikitin Dheer among others. Thirdly, Housefull 5 has released in two versions — A and B — which have different killers and endings. It's produced and written by Sajid Nadiadwala.
