Sydney club cops brutal triple blow
The Sea Eagles are hoping skipper Daly Cherry-Evans gets through the State of Origin opener unscathed after the club confirmed Tom Trbojevic was one of three stars ruled out of their game against the Broncos this weekend.
Manly's ugly loss to the Eels has been made worse with news that their superstar fullback tweaked an existing thigh injury that has hampered him in recent weeks.
In more bad news, Siosiua Taukeiaho and Jake Trbojevic will also miss the home game against Brisbane.
'Trbojevic has been playing with a corked thigh in recent weeks and aggravated the injury in last Friday's loss to the Eels. The club is taking a conservative approach and will rest their star fullback this weekend,' a club statement read.
'Taukeiaho picked up a minor calf strain against the Eels and he too is expected to miss just the one week.
'Jake Trbojevic will also sit out Saturday's match against the Broncos as he continues to follow NRL concussion protocol.'
The superstar fullback has endured another rough start to the season, with Trbojevic missing out on the Origin team for Wednesday night's opener.
Lehi Hopoate will shift to fullback against a Broncos side that remains without Reece Walsh. Jesse Arthars has the No.1 on his back with Selwyn Cobbo on the wing.
The Broncos have named Origin stars Payne Haas and Patrick Carrigan in the front row, with big man Ben Te Kura included on the bench.
Teams with a number of Origin representatives have been granted an extra player or two on the bench, yet it's the Wests Tigers who have the biggest headline of round 13 with Lachlan Galvin not named in their side for the trip to Townsville.
Galvin is reportedly set to join the Bulldogs this week and has likely played his last game for the Tigers, with Heath Mason to partner Jarome Luai in the halves as Latu Fainu recovers from injury.
Fletcher Sharpe moves back to five-eighth with Kalyn Ponga set to start for the Knights just two days after Origin, while the Dragons get try-scoring machine Christian Tuipulotu back from a hamstring injury.
The Storm have named their Origin stars and could welcome back Jack Howarth from a shoulder injury after he was named in the reserves for the trip to the Gold Coast who lost Josiah Pahulu to Melbourne on Monday.
Panthers coach Ivan Cleary has made a big change by dropping grand final hero Paul Alamoti for the derby against Parramatta, with the bottom-placed premiers naming all of their Origin players to back up.
The Eels, Cowboys and Roosters should also have all of their rep stars on deck if they get through Origin unscathed, while the Raiders have named Owen Pattie to start in place of the suspended Tom Starling.

Reece Walsh in State of Origin twist as Slater makes decision on Daly Cherry-Evans
Billy Slater is reportedly leaning towards axing Daly Cherry-Evans as Queensland halfback and captain for State of Origin 2, while Reece Walsh made a stunning late push to unseat Kalyn Ponga as fullback. However there were bizarre scenes involving Walsh when the fullback appeared to re-injure his knee in the Broncos' 44-14 win over the Titans on Saturday night. Walsh returned after a six-week absence for the clash at Suncorp Stadium, despite whispers he wasn't quite ready. And the gamble appeared to backfire on coach Michael Maguire when Walsh went down in agony with 10 minutes remaining. The fullback caught a high ball near his line, before pivoting on his troublesome knee and hitting the deck with no-one around him. Walsh grimaced in pain and was hobbling around, but pushed the trainer away who was trying to help him. It looked for sure as though Walsh had re-injured his right knee, ruining any faint hope he had of a State of Origin recall. But he pushed through the pain, and bizarrely scored two tries in the next five minutes. First he burned Chris Randall with a scintillating solo try from a scrum, stepping off his left leg and charging over. He then backed up on the inside after a break from Kotoni Staggs and managed to sprint to the line for the Broncos' eighth try. He didn't appear to be running at full speed, and it remains to be seen whether he's done more damage to his right knee. Another stint on the sidelines would be a hammer blow for the Broncos, and questions will be asked if he made his return too early. Eyebrows were also raised that he was allowed to stay on the field after appearing to aggravate his knee, given the Broncos had already sealed the victory. It was the same situation when he played out the match after suffering the injury the first time in Round 7. His two-try performance would have given Slater plenty to ponder given Ponga hasn't been in the greatest of form. Ponga has probably done enough to retain his spot, and the sight of Walsh hobbling around would have worried Slater no doubt. Walsh no need to be brave. The veteran halfback was poor in the second half against Newcastle on Thursday night, while Tom Dearden has been in much better form. is reporting that Slater is leaning towards picking Dearden at halfback to partner Cameron Munster in Origin 2, and leaving Cherry-Evans out of his 17 altogether. The team will be announced officially on Monday evening, but it appears as though DCE's Origin career is over. Lambourn wins English Derby to give trainer Aidan O'Brien his 11th victory at the classic
Associated Press EPSOM, England (AP) — Lambourn raced away from the pack to win the English Derby on Saturday, giving Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien his 11th win at the classic race. Lambourn set the pace early and then pulled away down the final stretch to win by about 3 1/2 lenghts. The 3-year-old colt, ridden by Wayne Lordan, entered the race at 13-2 after losing to 2-1 favorite Delacroix at Leopardstown in March. But Delacroix never looked like challenging this time and finished ninth. Lazy Griff (50-1) was second and Tennessee Stud came third. It was O'Brien's third consecutive win at the showpiece race. 'Wayne gave him him an incredible ride," O'Brien said. 'Everybody knew what he was going to do, he's very straightforward, Wayne knew he'd stay so he went forward." Lambourn was sired by 2014 Derby winner Australia, who in turn was sired by 2001 victor Galileo. 'It's incredible for everyone that we trained Australia to win the Derby and his sire as well, Galileo. I'm just a small part of it, everybody puts in so much, I can't tell you what a privelege it is," O'Brien said.
