Wednesday marked Springsteen's first concert in Liverpool, and it was a Beatle-less affair. 'So let's bring out Paul McCartney.' McCartney first led the band on a rendition of the Fab Four classic 'Can't Buy Me Love' — Springsteen and the E Street Band's first time performing that song live — followed by a rendition of Little Willie Littlefield's 'Kansas City' that was popularized by Little Richard and then the Beatles on Beatles for Sale. The two rock legends have shared the stage together on a handful of occasions over the past dozen-plus years: At London's Hyde Park in July 2012, and again at New York's Madison Square Garden in September 2017 (both times they played 'I Saw Her Standing There'). They also performed together during McCartney's East Rutherford, New Jersey gig in June 2022 (playing the Beatles' 'I Wanna Be Your Man' and Springsteen's own 'Glory Days') and, most recently, a week later during McCartney's headlining set at Glastonbury. Mirroring the Beatles' own sojourn from Liverpool to Germany, Springsteen and the E Street Band's European tour next heads to Berlin on June 11. Bruce Springsteen stunned fans at his gig in Liverpool on Saturday (7 June) when he brought out a special guest and local legend Sir Paul McCartney. The American musician was joined on stage by the 82-year-old Beatles star during the second of two shows at Anfield stadium on Saturday, with Sir Paul then providing vocals as the pair played the band's timeless hit 'Can't Buy Me Love'. Footage shared on social media showed the surprised crowd cheering loudly as Sir Paul was introduced and playfully pointed at Springsteen as the pair shared an embrace. Before he left the stage after their performance, Sir Paul addressed the crowd and reportedly said: 'Thank you, Scousers.' Fans who shared footage of the moment on social media were understandably ecstatic to see the two icons on stage together. 'A night I'll never forget, honestly. The two men have previously performed together on several occasions, most notably when Sir Paul delivered a headline set at Glastonbury in 2022. Announced as a surprise all the way from the East Coast of America, Springsteen joined Sir Paul, who became the festival's oldest solo headliner, as they played hits 'Glory Days' and 'I Wanna Be Your Man' on the Pyramid Stage. In 2012, Sir Paul had joined Springsteen on stage at the end of the singer's headline slot at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park, London, but both stars found their microphones cut off before they could address the crowds after exceeding the curfew. Springsteen, 75, and his E Street Band are in the UK as part of his Land of Hope and Dreams Tour, which kicked off with three shows in Manchester last month. There have been so many players that have been part of the Madden cover. Now to be mentioned and have my name attached with those guys, words really can't describe it." The obvious answer, of course, is receiver Malik Nabers. A 2024 first-round pick, Nabers entered the league with plenty of fanfare, then took the sport's biggest market by storm. It took him a month to prove himself worthy of elite consideration, logging two 100-yard games. Nabers is New York's best offensive player, a highlight machine, and incredibly marketable. With better quarterback play on the way, it's easy to see him going nuclear and forcing himself into that conversation in a year's time. Nabers would be the first Giants star to grace the cover since receiver Odell Beckham Jr., whose one-handed catch thrust him into a different stratosphere of fame. An LSU product with unlimited athleticism and the production to match, he shares a similar story to Nabers. The New York faithful hope their newest offensive phenom (or his rookie quarterback) can reach those same heights.
