Coroner ID's former Clovis Unified student killed in crash at Woodward Park in Fresno
The Fresno County Coroner's Office identified the driver who died after speeding through a dangerous intersection before going airborne and crashing at Woodward Park, causing the vehicle to catch on fire.
Khushmeet Mahal, 21, of Fresno died May 9 at Friant and Shepherd avenues in Fresno.
The fiery incident was captured on video by Friant Roulette, a YouTube channel run by a resident that's dedicated to chronicling collisions at the intersection.
Police said Mahal's BMW was traveling fast west on Shepherd and didn't make a turn north or south onto Friant. The car continued into the curb then hit an embankment, launching the vehicle over the fence and crashing into parked vehicles in a yard where city equipment is kept for maintaining the park.
The vehicle burst into flames seconds after the collision.
Mahal was pronounced dead.
Mahal was a former Clovis Unified student, attending Clovis East High School and Clovis Online School, the district confirmed.
A study by Southern California law firm Jacoby and Meyers Injury Lawyers said 21 crashes occurred at the Friant-Shepherd intersection between 2020 and 2024.
Among them was the fatal April 2023 crash when a tow truck ran a stop light that had been lit red for more than 10 seconds then T-boning a sedan that was making a left turn from Shepherd to go south on Friant.

Miss Grand International's Rachel Gupta Steps Down, Alleges Harassment
Originally appeared on E! Online Rachel Gupta has taken off her crown for the last time. The former Miss Grand International 2024, who won the title in October, announced she was stepping down from the role due to mistreatment and harassment from Miss Grand International Public Company Limited (MGI), the organization behind the Thai beauty pageant. "The whole time that I was working with Miss Grand International, the last seven months,' Gupta said in a May 28 YouTube video, 'I was constantly harassed, manipulated, ignored and left to fend for myself." In addition to her allegations that she was made to sign a 'one-sided' contract and was often left without 'basic amenities,' the 21-year-old alleged that "immediately after winning, they moved me into a cramped hotel room, where all my suitcases couldn't open properly because there wasn't enough space." Gupta then alleged she gained weight as a result of eating takeout food since "there were no pots and pans" in the lodging provided by MGI. And then, in turn, she said the organization ridiculed her because of her weight gain. More from E! "They sent a representative to me, and he just comes up to me and starts pinching me in places. He's like, 'Oh, you need to lose weight here. You need to lose weight here.' It's so embarrassing. It makes you feel so small and so bad." Ultimately, the beauty queen decided to relinquish her title after she said she was 'stuck' in Thailand with 'no security,' unable to return to her home in India, and felt unsupported by MGI during her time there, including after $1000 allegedly went missing. 'I realized, in that moment, that these people will never support me,' she said. 'Frankly they don't care if I live or die. As long as I'm there to smile at their events, as long as I keep my body super skinny, the way they like, they don't care if I live or die.' Shortly after Gupta published her video, MGI announced on Instagram that they had revoked her title. Later, they refuted her allegations. "Miss Grand International Public Company Limited (MGI) issues this formal statement in response to a series of false, misleading, and defamatory claims made publicly by Ms. Rachel Gupta, former Miss Grand International 2024," the organization said in a statement to People published June 5. "Her remarks, circulated via a video published on 28 May 2025, distort facts and misrepresent her contractual relationship with MGI—relying solely on emotional appeals and tearful storytelling without any physical evidence to support her claims." In addition to emphasizing that Gupta's claims, including allegations directed at MGI's chief operating officer, were 'rejected in their entirety' by the organization, they noted their belief in the beauty pageant. "MGI will not allow personal attacks or manipulative narratives,' the statement continued, 'to undermine the credibility of its executives or the integrity of the organization." E! Dodge Challenger Fleeing Trooper Wrecks Out At 160 MPH
Read the full story on The Auto Wire Running from police is a dumb and selfish thing to do, but this Dodge Challenger driver learned that lesson the hard way. Dashcam footage obtained from Arkansas State Police shows the Mopar muscle car flee from a traffic stop, only to wreck out at 160 mph, ejecting the not entirely sure what the initial stop was for, but we're going to guess it was speeding. In the footage, you can see the trooper is sitting blacked out on the side of the highway before he flips on his lights, then pulls over the Challenger. As you already know, the guy did the dumb little trick of waiting until the trooper was walking up to his vehicle before he sped off, tires squealing. The guy must've thought with the higher-powered muscle car, there was no way the trooper could catch him. For the first while in the footage that seems correct. The suspect driver gets off the main highway and turns on a dark, rough rural road, speeding along like a demon. At one point, the pursuing trooper catches air, which seems to scare him. But he presses on, seeing the Dodge's taillights in the distance. Not that we're fans of when criminals black out while running from police, but this would've been a great time for that trick. Of course, the guy might not have been able to see where he was going. The chase continues on a much nicer two-lane road. That smoother surface must've given the suspect more confidence, because he pushes the Mopar to 160 mph. Even on a well-lit, multi-lane interstate with no traffic around that's a dangerous proposition. After all, at that speed if you make one wrong move, you're done for. The guy does and his muscle car leaves the roadway behind, exploding into thousands of pieces. He must've not been wearing a seatbelt, because the trooper couldn't find the driver for a while. As backup arrives, troopers figure the driver took off on foot. But they later find him, deceased. We guess the guy really didn't want to go back to prison and he made sure he didn't.
