Bryan Mbeumo makes decision over Manchester United transfer after £70m Spurs bid
Bryan Mbeumo still prefers a transfer to Manchester United after Tottenham launched a £70 million offer for the Brentford forward, according to reports.
United are intent on strengthening Ruben Amorim's attacking options ahead of the new season and completed their £62.5 million deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves this week.
A new striker is also on United's wanted list for the summer window and they have already been dealt a blow this month as Liam Delap turned down a £30m move to Old Trafford in favour of joining Chelsea.
United have also been in advanced talks to sign Mbeumo but so far they have been unable to reach an agreement with Brentford over a fee for the Cameroon international.
It's understood that United's initial offer for Mbeumo worth £55m after add-ons was rejected by Brentford last week.

The Mirror are now reporting that Spurs have entered the running to sign Mbeumo following Thomas Frank's arrival at the north London club this week and a £70m bid worth £65m plus £5m in add-ons has been submitted to Brentford.
Spurs could also have an advantage with Frank having worked extensively alongside Mbeumo at Brentford for the past six seasons. More Trending
But Sky Sports report that Mbeumo would still prefer a move to United having already given an indication at the start of this month that Old Trafford is his first-choice destination.
The report adds that Tottenham are not completely out of the running with Mbeumo 'more intrigued' by a move to Spurs after their decision to replace Ange Postecoglou with Frank.
It's understood that Brentford have been holding out for at least £60m for the 25-year-old, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League this season.
Spurs, meanwhile, are considering a move for Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo as an alternative option to Mbeumo.

Andre Onana drops Man Utd exit hint as 'Emi Martinez waits for Red Devils'
Manchester United are reportedly interested in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and current first-choice stopper Andre Onana has now dropped a hint about his future Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has spoken out about his future amid reports that the Red Devils are eyeing a move for World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez. Onana has endured a difficult time at Old Trafford since joining the club from Inter Milan in 2023. The 29-year-old has made a series of high-profile errors which have prompted speculation that United could look to offload him and sign a replacement. And when asked about the rumours while attending an event in Burkina Faso, Onana told Afrik-Foot: "Will I leave? I don't know, we'll see!" Onana's comments come after reports from Argentina claimed that Martinez is keen on a move to United. The 32-year-old has been linked with moves to a number of clubs this summer and he recently addressed the rumours while on international duty. "My future? I don't know, I come here to play for the national team, and that's the only thing that matters to me right now," Martinez said. "Do I want to move to a new club? The transfer window just opened, so there's still a long way to go." And Bolavip are reporting that United are the 'main option' for the Aston Villa star. The report adds that Turkish club Galatasaray have made contact with Martinez after veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera left the club, but the Argentine wants to remain in the Premier League. It is claimed that Martinez is 'waiting on a call' from United, who are 'holding off' at the moment as they have not managed to sell Onana yet. And Martinez's former coach Neil Cutler, who worked with the goalkeeper at Villa, has backed him to be a success at Old Trafford. Cutler and Martinez remain close friends and he told the Sun last month: "This summer is pivotal for Emi in terms of his career. He's been voted the best goalie in the world twice and there seems to be an opportunity for him this summer, with all of his options open. "Big clubs are queuing up to speak to him and he either stays at a massive club like Villa or he goes to a truly world-class club. I don't think it's about money with Emi so I don't think he is ready to move to Saudi yet. "If he does move it would be to a much bigger club — one of the really big-hitters like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico... or even Manchester United. United can't offer him Champions League football but the sheer size of the club and the size of the challenge might appeal to Emi. "Emi has the confidence required to play for a massive club like United and would feel he could affect the club in a really positive way. He would look at United and say: 'Right, I can make this place better. I can help this club get back to where it was'."

Wayne Rooney sparks massive debate after picking players he was better than
Wayne Rooney will go down as one of the greatest players in Premier League history after firing in 253 goals in 559 appearances for Manchester United and winning every trophy available to him Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has sparked a debate on social media after insisting he was better than a list of superstar players, including Neymar, Sergio Aguero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robert Lewandowski. Rooney will go down as one of the best players in Premier League history after he blitzed 253 goals in 559 appearances for the Red Devils, helping them win five titles, three League Cups, one FA Cup, the Champions League and the Europa League. In his prime, Rooney netted a high of 34 goals in the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons under Sir Alex Ferguson, and at one point was linked with an exit and twice demanded to leave the club. He previously revealed Barcelona and Real Madrid were both interested in his signature. And it's clear Rooney still holds himself in the highest regard as a player after being asked to compare himself with a number of top footballers in a "winner stays on" format video on social media by Gamdom. Rooney was first asked to say who was better between himself or ex-Liverpool and Barcelona forward Luis Suarez, as he admitted: "Tough one to start," before naming himself. The 39-year-old then ousted Neymar, Aguero and Ibrahimovic before the presenter said Lewandowski's name, which promoted the ex-striker to say: "These are tough by the way," before he still picked himself, and did the same against Erling Haaland. He also hesitated before picking himself ahead of Harry Kane but had no problems doing the same thing when Alessandro Del Piero was mentioned. Some fans were left flabbergasted that Rooney viewed himself above so many top players - with many stunned that he thought he was better than Neymar. One fan posted a crying emoji as he wrote: "Bro thinks he's better than Neymar, Suarez, Zlatan, Lewa, Haaland," as another added: "No way he's better then Suarez or Neymar tho? Not even close to Neymar." A third said: "The lack of self-awareness is crazy," as another mocked him for claiming the choices were hard despite naming himself every time. But a number of fans pointed out that Rooney was right to back his ability over all of the players put to him as a generational talent who won every trophy available to him and wowed from an early age until the end of his career. One Manchester United fan said: "I'm sorry but if you're not rating Wayne Rooney then you must be under 20. Rooney in his day was unplayable widely regarded as one of England's greatest talents and one of the most successful players of he's generation." A second fan pointed out that many social media users criticising him were clearly of a newer generation who did not watch him growing up, saying: "Prime Wayne Rooney clears all of these players and it's not particularly close." A third pointed out that only two players mentioned could compete, saying: "Other than Neymar and possibly Suarez, rest of his answers were spot on. Rooney was a phenom." 'He will go stratospheric' - Where will Wirtz play for Liverpool?
"His name is going to go stratospheric in the next season or two."Going by the words of German football expert Raphael Honigstein, Liverpool's club-record £116m capture of Florian Wirtz could prove one of the deals of the 22-year-old German attacking midfielder has agreed a deal to sign for the Premier League champions in a package that could eventually be worth a British record £116m."He will bring a lot of class and poise," Honigstein added on BBC Radio 5 Live. "He is more or less the fully-formed article."He has played for Leverkusen and Germany so knows the demands that are on him, but still, he will have to adjust to the pace of the Premier League and the more physical way. "Opponents will try to negate his influence and that might prove a challenge, but he is young enough and good enough. He is not easily intimidated and stands up strong to the challenge. You are buying a super star."Wirtz made his top-flight debut aged 17 for Bayer Leverkusen in May 2020 and just 19 days later he became the then-youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history against the might of Bayern Munich - a club who were also in contention for his signature this making his debut for Leverkusen, Wirtz has provided 44 assists in the Bundesliga, ranking him third of all players - but everyone else in the top five is at least 29 years old, indicating his high ceiling for will become the second player Liverpool have bought from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, with right full-back Jeremie Frimpong having arrived in a £34m Reds will now turn their attentions to securing a deal for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, with talks taking place about a deal of between £45m-£50m."They key factor was, unlike other clubs, Liverpool presented a really thought-out vision," said Honigstein. "A very clear vision of how and where he will play. "At Bayern, it was very difficult to fit him in alongside Jamal Musiala, at Man City they haven't had that central player. I don't think any club came near when representing the ultimate package and vision."But with a multitude of attacking options already at their disposal, where exactly will Wirtz play for Arne Slot's Reds? 'A reshuffled Liverpool' - Where will he play? Wirtz is already one of the Bundesliga's top performers at the age of 22, largely operating as a number 10, a dynamic playmaker blessed with pace, awareness and the ability to make clever decisions at high was the most effective dribbler of all Bundesliga players last season, both in terms of volume and accuracy while carrying the of his 31 Bundesliga appearances in 2024-25 came in an attacking midfield/number 10 berth, although he does tend to drift towards the left wing."His best position, and the position that has been earmarked him for him in talks with Arne Slot, is that number 10 central role," said Honigstein. "In a slightly reshuffled Liverpool, more Dutch and more Arne Slot team."He will be the fulcrum in attack. A player who can pick up spaces between the line, has an eye for the killer ball but never loses sight of the goal, he can score goals himself and is very tenacious. A very modern number 10 and a player a lot of clubs wanted."If Wirtz takes up a place in Arne Slot's midfield, playing as a traditional 10, someone has to miss out, especially in the 4-2-3-1 formation used so effectively last unlikely to be Ryan Gravenberch given his rise into the anchoring role, which means Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister become two share similar stats, with Szobozslai creating more 'big' chances across the season, serving up more goals and assists, and Mac Allister being the more combative of the could provide an option on the flank, but Liverpool's wide areas appear to be under lock and key. Mohamed Salah holds the right side, while Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo offer variety on the left."Salah will play where he plays and Szobozslai is the most interesting one, as that would be the obvious place for him to play from what we have seen in Germany," said Liverpool fan and Anfield Rap podcaster John Gibb0ns on BBC Radio 5 Live."But Slot loves Szobozslai, he does so much and helps Salah. You would imagine he will try and find a way to get both of them if he can."That alternative could see Wirtz, or Szobozslai, playing in the centre-forward role in a 4-3-3, more as a false nine - a system and formation often used by Slot's former side Ajax, which sees the central striker dropping to receive passes and creating room for runs from was a style that Roberto Firmino built his legacy with, by dropping from forward positions into areas where he could link play, thus allowing the relentless Salah and Sadio Mane to prosper from wide output of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez perhaps points to the central-attacking area being the one where Liverpool lack a man in form."Liverpool with number nines hasn't worked," added Gibbons. "This is an alternative, to instead play someone occupying that role but playing a bit deeper and allowing Salah and Diaz to fill that void. "Paris-St-Germain impressed everyone playing that way. They did it with Ousmane Dembele up top, who is not really a striker, and they had flying full-backs. "We have brought Frimpong in and it looks like Kerkez will be next, so maybe he's looking at PSG and modelling on that."Pick your Liverpool XI for next season below. We have included both Wirtz and Kerkez in the available squad, with both set to be at Anfield next season.
