Patten beats Fearnley as Britons progress in doubles
Henry Patten is among a number of Britons through to the third round of the French Open men's doubles after victory over compatriot Jacob Fearnley.Second seeds Patten and Harri Heliovaara of Finland beat Fearnley and Canada's Gabriel Diallo 6-2 6-3.Patten and Heliovaara, who won their first Grand Slam doubles title at Wimbledon last year, are looking to add to the Australian Open title they secured in January.Fearnley was competing a day after reaching the third round of the singles at Roland Garros, where he will face fellow Briton Cameron Norrie on Saturday.British sixth seeds Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash also progressed, beating American pair Ryan Seggerman and Learner Tien 7-5 7-6 (7-5).They are joined in the next round by eighth seeds Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury, who ousted Argentina's Guido Andreozzi and France's Theo Arribage 7-5 6-4.
In the women's doubles, Britain's Olivia Nicholls reached the third round alongside Slovakian partner Tereza Mihalikova.The 12th seeds defeated Canada's Leylah Fernandez and Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva 6-4 0-6 6-4.But Jodie Burrage and Sonay Kartal were knocked out by Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic and American Taylor Townsend, with the top seeds securing a 6-2 6-2 victory.There was also a heavy defeat for Britain's Maia Lumsden alongside American partner Sabrina Santamaria, with the pair losing 6-0 6-0 to Russian fourth seeds Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider.
