The coach and captain of the Bulls have expressed satisfaction after a successful tour in Europe, beating three out of four top teams and making history along the way.
The Bulls were the first side to beat Bayonne at home this season, winning 32–22. Then they narrowly lost 34–28 to Edinburgh in Scotland in the Challenge Cup quarter final, before becoming the first South African side to beat Munster at their home ground (final score 16–13).
The Bulls followed that up on Friday with a 26–19 win against defending champions Glasgow Warriors, becoming only the second South African team to win at Scotstoun after the Cheetahs did it in 2019.
The Bulls return home for a week off before hosting their last United Rugby Championship league matches against Cardiff and Dragons before the tournament play-offs.
Bulls wrap up tour in 'outstanding' fashion
'It takes a massive effort, especially because it was away from home,' Bulls coach Jake White said.
'I'm just very happy that in a short week we have been able to replicate what we did last week and that was to show a lot of heart. Defensively, we were outstanding last week and this week.
'All I can say is it's a very good way to finish the tour because now we go back and we have two home games. Destiny is now in our hands, which is fantastic.'
He said being on tour away from their families for so long and playing against tough opposition in different conditions, plus playing against Edinburgh and Glasgow on unfamiliar artificial pitches, had been tough on the players.
'I can only be proud of that performance because it now sets us up nicely for when we get home and we can really prepare properly for the back-end of the competition.'
Captain highlights team cohesion after month away from home
Bulls captain Ruan Nortje also said he was proud of the team after rectifying the mistakes they made against Munster.
'I think for us coming here today was all about… rectifying what we did last week and coming into this game with the same intent, especially on our fourth week on tour,' Nortje said.
'It was very special to see how the guys stuck together. It's really a massive boost for us for the last part of the season.'
While the Bulls did not overtake Glasgow on the log due to the Scottish side securing a losing bonus point, they have closed the gap for second place to just one point, while pulling nine points ahead of the Sharks in fourth place.

Bulls made to sweat by Sharks as they win through to URC final with semi-final win at Loftus Versfeld

SHARKS prop Ox Nche's efforts were not enough to the Durbanites go past the Bulls in the URC semi-final at Loftus. | ITUMELENG ENGLISH/Independent Newspapers Both Papier and De Klerk had points to prove after being left out of the 54-man Springbok squad, and they gave Rassie Erasmus something to consider. The Bulls countered magnificently. A perfect lineout saw scrumhalf Embrose Papier break through the retreating defence, and the ball went wide to wing Sebastian de Klerk, who finished slickly. The first scrums had the massive home crowd roaring as the Sharks went backward at a rapid rate of knots. From one such reverse action, the ball spilled out wide and Sharks wing Ethan Hooker scooped the ball to score, but the try was disallowed because his backline had been offside. The match kicked off in an electrifying atmosphere and the players responded in kind, with breathtaking action throughout. They beat the Sharks 25-13 in front of a rapturous crowd of 48 000 to ensure a final against Leinster in Dublin. The Sharks were valiant opponents but the Bulls showed valour on defence and efficiency on attack to fight through to the final of the United Rugby Championship. David Kriel soars over the try line as the Vodacom @BlueBullsRugby go one step closer to the Grand Final ✈️ @Vodacom #URC | #BULvSHA Just as the first quarter ended, it seemed as if the Sharks had weathered the storm. Their scrum settled after the initial brutal attacks, but when Jaden Hendrikse was under pressure in the Sharks' 22, he slipped when attempting a clearance kick and the ball stumbled forward to the Bulls. De Klerk kick-passed out wide to Canan Moodie, who finished neatly in the corner. Jaden's brother, Jordan, put the Sharks on the board with a well-taken penalty in the 25th minute to make it 12-3. The Sharks were revived and when the Bulls lost a lineout, Makazole Mapimpi made a strong thrust up field and, in the tackle, Harold Vorster did not release him. The Bulls centre was yellow carded, but Hendrikse missed the shot at goal to let the Bulls off the hook. With five minutes to go in the half, the Bulls' scrum picked up their intensity and a penalty won was converted into three points by Goosen. At 15-3 with halftime looming, the Sharks were in trouble. But once more the Bulls made life difficult for themselves when Cameron Hanekom tip-tackled opposite number Siya Kolisi. He was sin-binned but, interestingly, the Sharks spurned the easy three points and kicked to the corner. They were repelled and Vorster earned his team a penalty at a breakdown. It proved to be an injudicious decision to squander the three points. The Sharks continued their pressure as halftime approached and again won a penalty in front of the posts. Once more they chose the corner instead of the points, and this time the pressure resulted in veteran Marcell Coetzee received a yellow card for pulling down the maul This was in the 40th minute and he joined Hanekom in the naughty corner. Somehow the Bulls survived the siege on the line and went to the change rooms 15-3 in front. The Sharks continued their assault and five minutes into the half, Mapimpi accelerated to the corner after a series of phases from a lineout. Hendrikse missed the conversion to leave it at 15-8 to the Bulls. Sadly, in the 28th minute URC Next Gen Player of the year, Hanekom was carted off the field with what looked to be a serious knee injury. It was all Sharks in the third quarter and they were rewarded for their relentless pressure when space was found for Hooker out wide, and he finished superbly. Jaden Hendrikse took over the kicking duties from his brother, but missed the conversion to leave the Bulls 15-13 in front. This hurt all the more for the Durbanites when Keegan Johannes nailed a pressure penalty with his team's first meaningful possession of the half to make it 18-13. The Bulls had taken a lot of punishment, and they upped their tempo, with outside David Kriel finishing a movement started by Papier. At 25-13 with ten minutes to go, that was the ball game. Scorers Bulls — Tries: Sebastian de Klerk, Canan Moodie, David Kriel. Conversions: Johan Goosen, Keegan Johannes. Penalties: Goosen, Johannes. Sharks — Tries: Makazole Mapimpi, Ethan Hooker. Penalties: Jordan Hendrikse.

URC result: Composed Bulls hold off sloppy Sharks in semi-final

The Sharks could not capitalise on three Bulls yellow cards, nor slot even a quarter of their goal kicks on the night. Bulls wing Sebastian de Klerk scores his side's first try during their semi-final against the Sharks. Picture: Johan Orton/Gallo Images The Bulls held off the Sharks in their United Rugby Championship semi-final at Loftus on Saturday (final score 25–13) to set up a mouth-watering final against Leinster at Aviva Stadium in Ireland next weekend. The Bulls ended the Sharks' five-game winning streak through scrum dominance and scintillating backline runs. The Sharks were their own worst enemies, however, only scoring once in a period where the Bulls had three yellow cards, failing to finish when they were on the Bulls' tryline with superior numbers twice. The Sharks rallied in the second half, but their goal-kicking also let them down. In the end, they slotted just one kick out of five. In the end, the Bulls showed composure in defence when the Sharks eventually found their feet, something they failed to do in their two defeats against the Sharks in the regular season. Bulls a step ahead of the Sharks The Bulls kicked off their semi-final by dominating the scrums early on, but an errant pass saw Ethan Hooker nearly open scoring for the Sharks through an intercept try. But it was disallowed for offside. The Bulls capitalised on their momentum with a Sebastian de Klerk try in the sixth minute following a beautiful line break by Embrose Papier. They extended their lead with an equally impressive try in the 22nd minute, Canan Moodie dotting down a perfectly placed cross kick from De Klerk. Sharks flyhalf Jordan Hendrikse missed two of three penalty kicks in the first half hour, including a straightforward one, to jeers from the crowd. The one he slotted turned out to be the only points the Sharks could score in the first half, despite three Bulls yellow cards in the second quarter. The score was 15–3 at the break. The Sharks responded well in the second half. First Makazole Mapimpi dotted an overlap try next to the touchline while the Bulls were still two men down, and then Ethan Hooker side-stepped a defender to score on the opposite touchline when the Bulls were back at full strength. Neither were converted, while the Bulls extended their lead through a penalty and converted David Kriel try. They led 25–13 with 12 minutes to play. The Sharks lost momentum towards the end, spilling chances and giving the ball away as soon as they had it, to end their URC run. Scorers Bulls: Tries – Sebastian de Klerk, Canan Moodie, David Kriel. Conversions – Johan Goosen 1/2, Keagan Johannes 1/1. Penalties – Goosen 1/1, Keagan Johannes 1/2. Sharks: Tries – Makazole Mapimpi, Ethan Hooker. Conversions – Jordan Hendrikse 0/1, Jaden Hendrikse 0/1. Penalties – Hendrikse 1/3.
