Apple's solution to better iPhone battery life? Copying this clever Android feature.

All the performance in the world doesn't mean much if your smartphone struggles to get through the day. We've seen some notable battery innovations over the years as a result, and it now looks like Apple could copy a battery feature first seen on Android phones.
Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on an 'AI-powered battery management mode' for its upcoming iOS 19 update. The outlet reports that this feature, which will be part of the Apple Intelligence suite of capabilities, will analyze how someone uses their iPhone and make power-saving adjustments.
Apple apparently created the feature by relying on battery data collected from users. This data was used to understand trends and predict when it should reduce power for specific apps or features.
Not the only Android-first feature coming to iPhones
If this sounds familiar, that's because Android has offered its Adaptive Battery feature since 2018's Android 9 Pie. Google teamed up with DeepMind for the feature, which uses AI to 'prioritize system resources for the apps the user cares about most.' Adaptive Battery also learns your app usage habits over time to fine-tune your phone's power consumption. We've also seen Android OEMs implement similar battery management features using machine learning or algorithms over the years.
Bloomberg adds that the iOS 19 lock screen will finally display the time left until a full charge. Android phones from Samsung and Google have offered this feature for ages now, so this is another area where Apple is playing catch-up with its Android rivals.

TikTok isn't really working right now
Just after 11PM ET, many people started reporting problems with TikTok, which isn't completely offline, but definitely has been dealing with some kind of outage. Downdetector listed 44,000 reports at our last check, and the issue isn't fixed yet. Based on reports from Reddit, Twitter, Bluesky, and looking at our own devices, at the moment, videos may continue to load in TikTok's mobile apps, but accessing other features like comments or switching between accounts isn't working reliably, leading some users to wonder if their accounts were banned. Trying to pull up the TikTok website, or even its support pages, displays a message saying 'An error occurred while processing your request' along with a reference code. We haven't seen any update from TikTok about what may be causing the issue, and status pages for some of its service providers, like Akamai and Oracle, aren't indicating any wider problems. Hopefully, it gets resolved quickly so people can get back to wasting their time scrolling instead of doing whatever they were planning to do, but if we find out any more information, we will update this post.

Sam Altman said AI agents are acting like junior employees — and he's betting that your AI colleague could soon 'discover new knowledge'
OpenAI CEO predicts AI will soon be able to "discover new knowledge" and solve business problems. A study shows that AI is already replacing human workers. Companies like Shopify and Duolingo are shifting away from human workers in favor of AI. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is betting that AI could soon help "discover new knowledge" and said it is already beginning to act like your junior-level coworkers. "You hear people that talk about their job now is to assign work to a bunch of agents, look at the quality, figure out how it fits together, give feedback, and it sounds a lot like how they work with a team of still relatively junior employees," Altman said of AI agents on Monday during the Snowflake Summit 2025, in a conversation with Snowflake Computing CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy. "I would bet next year that in some limited cases, at least in some small ways, we start to see agents that can help us discover new knowledge, or can figure out solutions to business problems that are kind of very non-trivial," Altman added. The keynote conversation at Snowflake Summit — which explored how organizations can drive immediate impact with the power of AI — comes as new data show that AI is already replacing human workers. Zanele Munyikwa, an economist at Revelio Labs, spoke to Business Insider's Aki Ito about her analysis of online job postings and the impact of AI since ChatGPT's release at the end of 2022. As Ito wrote, "She found that over the past three years, the share of AI-doable tasks in online job postings has declined by 19%." In roles Munyikwa pinpointed as more vulnerable to AI, such as database administrators and IT specialists, the hiring downturn has been as steep as 31%. Over the past quarter, Shopify said that its managers need to explain why a job couldn't be handled by AI before asking for new hires, and Duolingo, the language learning app, said it would replace contract workers with AI. In February, OpenAI launched GPT-4.5, which Altman called "the first model that feels like talking to a thoughtful person." He also described the model as "giant" and "expensive." The rollout is limited to Pro subscribers until the shortage of GPUs is solved. OpenAI also recently launched Codex, a new AI agent aimed at streamlining coding tasks for developers by writing code, fixing bugs, and running tests. Altman said it was already in use by OpenAI's own engineers. Unlike traditional chatbots, the multitasking AI agent can also interact with external software to complete tasks like making a dinner reservation.
