Mo Salah: Fun Facts about the Liverpool and Egypt legend

BBC News11-04-2025

It's a big celebration for Mo Salah, as he's has signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool FC.It's also exciting news for the club's fans, as no-one was sure whether or not he would definitely stay on after the end of this season. After the new deal was announced Salah said "I have played eight years here, hopefully it's going to be 10. "I'm enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I have had the best years of my career here."So just much do you know about Salah and his achievements? Keep reading to find out more!
How many goals has Salah scored for Liverpool?
It's A LOT! So far with the team he's netted over 240 goals. His first came following a £34m move from AS Roma, scoring in a 3-3 draw at Watford on the opening day of the 2017-18 season. Now he's third in Liverpool's all-time goalscoring chartsHe's also a super-assist machine, meaning there's lots of goals scored by other players, that he's helped to created.
Mo Salah: Player of the Year
Every team Liverpool play against knows that Salah is an exceptional player. And every defender knows that they have to watch his every move. His fellow players have voted him the Player's Player of the Year twice, in 2017-18 and 2021-2022, and the Premier League have awarded him their Player of Year award too, in 2017-2018.His has often shone for his country, Egypt, in international football too and was voted the African Footballer of the Year in 2017 and 2018.
How much money does Salah get at Liverpool?
We don't get know how much Salah's will get under his new contract but according to BBC Sport his previous deal was worth more than £350,000-a-week - which made him the highest-paid player in the club's history.however, the star is also known for donating a significant portion of his wealth to various charities, particularly towards those in his home country of Egypt. In 2022 he was even named eighth in Sunday Times Giving List due to his charity donations.
What has Salah won with Liverpool?
With all his goals and teamwork Salah has certainly been helping his team bring home the silverware. So far he's has won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Fifa Club World Cup with the Reds. And he could be adding even more this season, with Liverpool well ahead in the Premier League table.
Has Salah always played for Liverpool?
Salah's first appearance in front of Liverpool's fans was back in 2014 but at that time he was playing for Chelsea - and the result wouldn't have made him very popular with the fans. On that occasion Chelsea not only beat Liverpool, but ended their 11-game winning streak. A bit awkward when you add to that the fact that Salah had rejected Liverpool to move to Chelsea four months earlier. But these days he is more than loyal to the club! Two months ago, he said he was "disappointed" at not having been offered a new deal by Liverpool, so it's good news for both him and the club that's he's set to stay put.
What makes Salah such a special player?
According to Liverpool manager Arne Slot, it's his humble personality and mental strength, as well his ability to score goals.Slot told BBC Sport: "He always wants to work hard and always puts a lot of effort into becoming the player he has become. "There are other players who can score goals, but Mo can score a goal even if he is not in the best half an hour, or best 15 minutes, and that's why he is mentally so strong."Slot has said he was "happy" Salah had chosen to stay given he could have gone to "probably any club in the world".

Arsenal dealt blow as Nico Williams responds to Bayern Munich approach

Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has told Bayern Munich he is 'very open' to joining them this summer, according to reports in Germany. Arsenal and Chelsea have Williams on their shortlist for the summer transfer window with both Premier League clubs wanting to strengthen in wide areas. Williams was one of Spain's standout stars at Euro 2024 and finished this season with 11 goals and seven assists for Bilbao, who finished fourth in La Liga to secure a place in next season's Champions League. Bayern Munich have also entered the running to sign Williams having lost Leroy Sane, who arrived in Turkey on Wednesday ahead of his move to Galatasaray on a free transfer. According to Sky Germany, Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, and sporting director, Christoph Freund, have held talks with Williams' representatives. It's also claimed that Williams himself has told Bayern that he is 'very open' to joining them this summer. Bayern, however, will need to pay the €58 million (£48.1m) release clause in Williams' deal with Bilbao, as well as meet the 22-year-old's salary demands, which are understood to be in the region of €380,000 (£322,000) a week. More Trending Speaking in April, Williams gave no indication that he would push for a move away from Bilbao this summer. 'I'm super happy here and feel well,' the winger said. 'I've always wanted to feel important here.' Bilbao have also been in talks with Williams to extend his contract, which expires in the summer of 2027. Chelsea sent message by Dortmund over failed Jamie Gittens transfer

Borussia Dortmund have left the door open for Chelsea to make another attempt to sign Jamie Gittens this summer. Chelsea held advanced talks with Dortmund over a deal for the 20-year-old before the transfer window closed on Tuesday night. But after Chelsea's initial €35 million (£29.5m) bid was rejected, their follow up offer of €50m (£42.2m) was also turned down by the Bundesliga side. It's understood that Dortmund were holding out for a €65m (£54.9m) fee for Gittens, who has now been named in their Club World Cup squad. Dortmund will play Brazilian side Fluminense, South Korea's Ulsan HD and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in Group F. However, Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, admits an agreement with Chelsea for Gittens could be reached after the tournament. 'There was contact with Chelsea, who got in touch again yesterday afternoon,' Kehl told Ruhr Nachrichten. 'We spoke again on the phone. In the end, we were unable to reach an agreement because we have different ideas about the player's current value. 'We're happy that Jamie will now be at the Club World Cup and are pleased that he's staying. More Trending 'We examined it very seriously, but in the end, we also made a decision for ourselves. 'But it's still absolutely fine that Chelsea made this attempt. And again, we're in good dialogue. We'll see how things develop in the future.' Chelsea's Club World Cup campaign begins against Los Angeles FC on June 16. Enzo Maresca's side will then play Flamengo on June 20 before their final Group D game against ES Tunis on June 25. Jonny Evans makes surprise announcement on future after Man Utd release him

Jonny Evans has been released by Manchester United and the defender remains uncertain about what could come next in his career when he leaves the Red Devils this month Jonny Evans is in no rush to make a decision on his future after it was confirmed he would be released by Manchester United. The defender is set to see his contract expire at the end of the month with no renewal forthcoming. But despite the 37-year-old being firmly in the twilight of his career, no official announcement on a retirement has arrived, though he is expected to do so. The Northern Irish defender is set to reflect on his situation before making a decision over his next steps. ‌ Evans is set to end his second spell at Old Trafford having returned to the club in 2023 to take on a senior role in the dressing room and to provide additional depth in United's backline. The veteran probably played more than anticipated making 30 appearances in his first season back to see his contract extended by a further year. ‌ Evans was called upon less frequently last term in a difficult season and joins the likes of Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof in exiting the club. Tom Heaton remains in discussions over potentially extending his stay. It had been suggested Evans' departure could mark the end of his career, after Evans noted 'It was stay here or retire' last summer. The defender is yet to make plans however. "I'm not sure yet," Evans told BBC Sport NI when asked about his future . "I'll take a bit of time. I don't feel like I'm in a rush to do anything." In his eight years away from Manchester, Evans spent three years at West Bromwich Albion and five years at Leicester. The central defender added an FA Cup victory in 2021 to three Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup and two League Cup success across his two stints with the Red Devils. Evans earned 107 caps for Northern Ireland and provided some analysis on where the nation stands during his appearance on BBC. The ex-Sunderland loanee is hopeful his former boss, Michael O'Neill can lead the country to World Cup qualification. ‌ "When you've got Michael O'Neill in charge, he gives everyone a little bit of hope," said Evans, "He's taken the team to a major tournament before and if you want anyone in charge, it's him. "When I look at this team it reminds me of ourselves. He's playing five at the back and he has Isaac Price, he's on a good run of form. "You look throughout the team, you see Dan Ballard and Trai Hume getting promoted, they'll be playing Premier League football and that'll only be good for the team. I'm excited. Over the next couple of years I think we'll see them progress together." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
