Work begins on Austintown playground improvements

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Work began Monday on some improvements to the playground at Austintown Park.
Three new pieces are being added, paid for by a grant through Game-Time playground equipment.
The work costs about $45,000 and is expected to be completed in three or four days. Weather permitting, park officials say they expect the playground to be open this weekend.
'You've got to have something for everybody,' said Todd Shaffer, Austintown Park supervisor. 'For the young kids, your teenagers and your seniors. This playground is very popular with the kids. Especially once we open up the splash pad in May. They like running back and forth between the splash pad and the playground.'
Shaffer says stay tuned to the park's official Facebook page for updates on the construction. Meanwhile, the splash pad should reopen for the season the weekend before Memorial Day.
