Sir David Beckham has a nice ring to it.
Beckham, arguably the most famous sportsman in England's history, will be awarded a knighthood next week as part of King Charles III's birthday celebrations, British media outlets BBC, The Guardian and The Sun reported Friday.
Beckham, 50, will finally earn his country's highest honor after years of near misses despite his legendary soccer career and extensive charity work with UNICEF.
"I've heard people in the media talk about it's something that I really, really want, and of course, it would be an unbelievable honor," Beckham said in a recent interview with Time magazine. "If it happens at some point, amazing. If it doesn't, there's nothing I can do about it."

Beckham helped Manchester United win six Premier League titles. He also played for Real Madrid, the L.A. Galaxy in Major League Soccer, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain during his career.
Beckham is also a co-owner of MLS club Inter Miami, where he helped secure the services of Argentine World Cup champion Lionel Messi for the American club in July 2023. Beckham also became an owner of Salford City, a League Two team in England, last month.
Inter Miami representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Beckham married Spice Girls singer and fashion designer, Victoria, in 1999. They have four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper Seven. Victoria Beckham will take the name Lady Beckham when her husband is knighted.
David Beckham was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2003. He joined UNICEF in 2005, and has been one of the organization's longest serving ambassadors. He also became an ambassador last year for The King's Foundation, supporting King Charles' education program.

No let-up for Leicester boss Cheika as Premiership final exit looms

Michael Cheika said only victory in next week's English Premiership final would do after his Leicester side booked their place in the Twickenham showpiece with a hard-fought 21-16 win at home to Sale on Saturday. The Tigers will face old foes Bath at the headquarters of English rugby on June 14 after two fine tries by wing Adam Radwan helped them edge past Sale to spark joyful scenes come the final whistle at Welford Road in what was the last Leicester home game for retiring stalwarts Ben Youngs and Dan Cole. Advertisement But for veteran Australian coach Cheika, who has overseen a revival in fallen English giants Leicester's fortunes since signing a one-year deal before the start of the season, there is still much to do ahead of what will be his last game in charge of the Tigers. "This is not an achievement for me –- winning it (the Premiership) is the achievement," said Cheika, previously in charge of both Australia and Argentina at Test level. The 58-year-old, who steered his native Australia to the 2015 Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham only for the Wallabies to go down 34-17 to New Zealand, added: "I don't want to be a sad sack, but I can't leave any room for complacency around how well we've done to make it (to the final). "I've been doing this for too long. You get to a World Cup final, you think about how good that is and then when you lose, it's the worst feeling you'll ever have. Advertisement 'I want to make sure that I leave no room in my own personal performance to allow anything to derail our preparation." Radwan's two tries were the standout moments from Saturday's semi-final, the 27-year-old England wing evading several Sale defenders for his first score before he crossed Sale's line again after athletically catching an overhit chip from Springbok star Handre Pollard. Cheika, reflecting on Radwan's second try, said: "Adam grew about a foot, I reckon. A foot and a half! He's not the tallest of fellas, Adam, but he got there." He added: "You've got to be brave to go and do that stuff and if you don't try it, you never know if it'll happen or not. I'm not going to rap him (Radwan) up too much, but it was a good try. "Pollard had the courage to make the kick and then Adam had the courage to do that extra little bit to go and get it." jdg/dmc

Liverpool to make offer for €60m centre-back within DAYS

Liverpool secured Virgil van Dijk to a contract renewal before the end of the season. With the Dutchman's previous terms expiring in summer 2025, sporting director Richard Hughes ensured continuity at centre-back by having Van Dijk commit until 2027. That gives the Reds a degree of security in making their defensive plans but all around Van Dijk there is uncertainty. We could see Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez LEAVE in this transfer window, reducing the number of available centre-backs by two. Advertisement Those sales would leave Liverpool with ONLY Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as options in the heart of defence. But the captain turns 34 this summer and won't be around forever, while the Merseysiders have also got a problem to solve with Konate. The Frenchman, 26, is out of contract next year and if no agreement is reached over a renewal then he too could be sold. In this context it is wise for Richard Hughes and Arne Slot to be looking at the market for new defenders. Diomande back on the radar Their search has now reportedly taken them back to Portugal, where Ousmane Diomande is once again in focus. Diomande, 21, has just won the Portuguese league and cup double with his side, earning the plaudits for another solid season's work. Advertisement The Ivory Coast international is now attracting transfer attention from the Premier League - with A Bola disclosing that Crystal Palace have got the former Midtjylland stopper on their list to replace Marc Guehi. 'The Premier League club sought to find out the amount to buy the central defender from Alvalade and received the answer immediately: the Lions will only sit at the negotiating table for amounts of around €60 million,' the report reads. But intriguingly it's added that several other Premier League clubs - Liverpool included - have also taken this 'first step' towards signing Diomande. Liverpool could make Diomande offer 'Crystal Palace, by the way, were not the only ones to take this first step towards Diomande,' the report continues. Advertisement 'Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United, as well as Bayern Munich (interest dating back to January) have not lost sight of the centre-back and could make an offer in the coming days.' Diomande is under contract until 2027 having joined Sporting from Danish side Midtjylland in 2023. He has played 101 times for Sporting, scoring six goals and adding two assists. On FOTMOB he ranks highly for recoveries and duels won - while his aerial duel percentage is solid at around 65 percent.
