Air India Crash: DNA Matching Of 87 Completed, 47 Bodies Handed Over To Families
Ahmedabad (Gujarat):
The Additional Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad's Civil Hospital said on Monday that the DNA sample matches in the Air India plane crash have reached 92, corresponding to 87 individuals due to some duplication.
Speaking to the media, Dr Rajnish Patel said that 47 bodies have been dispatched to various districts so far.
"Of the bodies brought to Civil Hospital, DNA matching of 92 (body remains) is completed, of this (the number of) individuals is 87 because there is duplication. 47 bodies have been dispatched from here...Bodies have been dispatched to Kheda, Ahmedabad, Kota, Mahesana, Bharuch, Vadodara, Aravalli, Anand, Junagarh, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Mahisagar and Bhavnagar," Dr Patel said.
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft crashed into a hostel complex shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, killing 241 passengers and crew, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
An expert from the UK who reached the Air India Plane Crash site in Ahmedabad to conduct an inspection, said, "Maybe we will be able to speak later...We saw what you guys can see...It's just the same, as you can see from here."
Meanwhile, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who lost his life in the crash, will be cremated in Rajkot later today with full state honours.
The Tricolour is being brought to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Ahmedabad to be draped over his mortal remains. Around 2,000 kilograms of flowers will be used to decorate the hearse van that will carry the body of the former Chief Minister.
As the identification process continued, authorities assured that each body would be handed over with full respect and dignity.
The crash claimed 241 lives out of the 242 people onboard, which included 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The lone survivor, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
At least 33 people, including local residents on the ground and MBBS students, also lost their lives as the plane rammed into the doctor's hostel after the crash.

Robert Vadra to appear before ED today in arms dealer-linked money laundering case
Businessman Robert Vadra, who is also the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, will appear before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in a money laundering case linked to UK-based fugitive arms dealer, Sanjay 56, had skipped the earlier summons issued by the federal agency last Tuesday (June 10). The ED then issued a fresh summons to the businessman skipped the June 10 summons saying he had flu-like symptoms the previous day and had undertaken a Covid-19 test as per protocol, news agency PTI reported. His lawyer then said that the 56-year-old had no intention of avoiding the summons and was ready to appear before the ED anytime before or after his travel later this month. As part of his appearance before the probe agency today, Vadra is expected to record his statement on the case, which is being investigated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). It is understood that the ED will subsequently file a chargesheet in the case is part of a larger investigation into Bhandari, who fled India in 2016 soon after the IT Department raided him in Delhi, and is currently based in the UK. He is allegedly a close aide of Robert is accused of concealing overseas assets, laundering kickbacks and violating multiple Indian laws, including the PMLA, the Official Secrets Act, and the Black Money the UK, he is currently contesting extradition proceedings initiated by Indian authorities. Earlier this month, a UK court rejected an application by the Indian government seeking a nod to appeal in Britain's Supreme Court against the discharge of Bhandari in an extradition case. The discharge would rule out any opportunity for India to bring Bhandari back to the country for ED filed a chargesheet in the case in 2023, alleging that Bhandari obtained multiple properties in London from the proceeds of crime from the defence deals in India. It alleged that Bhandari acquired the 12, Bryanston Square house in London in 2009 and got it renovated "as per the directions of Robert Vadra, who provided the funds for the renovation". The federal agency alleged that Bhandari had financial dealings with Vadra during the UPA has denied any connection, directly or indirectly, and termed the charges a "political witch hunt". The businessman said he was being "hounded and harassed" to obey political April, the ED questioned Vadra for three consecutive days in a separate money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the 2008 Shikhopur land deal in Haryana.
