Dubai Chambers showcases Dubai's competitive advantages to 60 companies from Madagascar in the presence of Madagascar President

Dubai Chambers has welcomed a delegation of 60 companies from Madagascar to explore investment opportunities and potential business partnerships during the Dubai–Madagascar Business Forum, which was held today at its headquarters. The event reaffirmed the significance of strengthening economic ties between Dubai and Madagascar and focused on advancing cooperation across high-potential trade and investment sectors.
The forum was held in the presence of H.E. Andry Rajoelina, President of the Republic of Madagascar, who led a high-level delegation featuring ministers, senior government officials, and business leaders from Malagasy enterprises.
The delegation was received by H.E. Eng. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Chairman of Dubai Chambers, and H.E. Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, together with representatives from Dubai's private sector.
In his keynote address, H.E. President Rajoelina praised Dubai's remarkable global economic status and reaffirmed his country's interest in deepening bilateral relations across several priority sectors.
During his welcome address at the forum, H.E. Eng. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Chairman of Dubai Chambers, stated: 'The steady growth in economic ties between Dubai and Madagascar reflects our shared commitment to strengthening bilateral partnerships and exploring new opportunities for impactful cooperation that support sustainable economic growth. The launch of Emirates Airlines' direct service to Antananarivo, Madagascar's capital, in September 2024 marked a significant milestone in boosting bilateral trade, tourism, and collaboration.'
H.E. Al Mansoori added: 'Dubai's non-oil trade with Madagascar increased by 90% during 2024, growing from AED 692 million in 2023 to reach AED 1.3 billion. This significant leap reflects the expanding momentum of bilateral economic relations. We are committed to providing comprehensive support to develop relationships and partnerships between the business communities in Dubai and Madagascar, highlighting ways to capitalise on promising opportunities within vital sectors of mutual interest.'
During the forum, H.E. Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining promising sectors for bilateral investment and trade collaboration. H.E. Lootah highlighted key investment opportunities available in Dubai for businesses and investors from Madagascar across key sectors including tourism, entertainment, logistics, real estate, information technology, and financial services.

Dubai's Deyaar to launch 110-storey residential tower in Business Bay
Deyaar Development is set to launch a 110-storey residential tower in Business Bay, according to a project brochure released by the developer. 'Rising 110 floors, DWTN Residences is a landmark destination where life's finest experiences converge,' the Dubai-listed developer said in an emailed brochure. Dubai: 10,000 children get Eidiya from authority in 'cherished tradition'
In a heartwarming gesture, authorities in Dubai have distributed Eidiya (Eid gift money) to 10,000 children, an authority said on Thursday, June 5. The children were from families benefitting from Community Development Authority services, the statement said. Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of CDA, said: "The Eidiya is not just financial support; it's a heartfelt message meant to bring joy to children during these blessed days and to make them feel valued and cared for." "Giving Eidiya is a cherished tradition in our culture, and the happiness it brings to children is truly priceless,' she added. This was organised under the 'Eidiya' initiative, and in collaboration with the Endowments and Minors' Trust Foundation (AWQAF Dubai). The initiative also aligns with the goals of the 'Year of Community'. Earlier, Dubai Police in an effort to make Eid special for female inmates distributed clothing and organised special programmes as part of their ongoing humanitarian and social efforts.

UAE Commits to Comprehensive Ban on Single-Use Plastics by 2026

This measure builds upon earlier initiatives, including the 2024 ban on plastic bags, and reflects the country's commitment to environmental sustainability. The upcoming ban will encompass a range of single-use plastic items, such as cups, lids, cutlery, food containers, and plates. These items are known contributors to environmental pollution, particularly in marine ecosystems. The decision aligns with the UAE's broader environmental objectives, including its Circular Economy Policy, which aims to minimise waste and promote resource efficiency across various sectors. ADVERTISEMENT Dr Al Dahak emphasised the importance of collective action, urging citizens and businesses to adopt sustainable practices. She highlighted initiatives like the Clean Rivers programme by Erth Zayed Philanthropies, which addresses plastic pollution in waterways through community engagement and innovative solutions. The phased approach to the ban began in 2024 with restrictions on plastic bags, followed by a 2025 ban on items such as plastic stirrers and Styrofoam containers. The final phase in 2026 will complete the transition towards eliminating single-use plastics. Enforcement measures include fines for non-compliance, starting at AED 200 and escalating for repeated violations. Certain exemptions will apply, such as for products intended for export or specific uses like packaging for fresh produce.
