Man Utd to earn 'substantial' windfall for player sold less than 12 months ago
Manchester United's Profit and Sustainability concerns are set to be eased with one of their former academy players expected to be on the move this summer, just a year ater leaving the Red Devils Manchester United are set to earn a substantial transfer windfall thanks to former star Maxi Oyedele. The United academy graduate left the Red Devils a year ago for Legia Warsaw, having never played a senior game at Old Trafford. But he has starred in Poland, making 24 appearances in all competitions as Legia won the Polish Cup. That was their first major trophy since 2023, with Oyedele playing all 90 minutes of the final. Though he only joined last summer and has two years to run on his contract, the midfielder is attracting strong interest. Werder Bremen, PSV Eindhoven, Anderlecht, Club Brugge and a number of Championship sides are understood to be monitoring the 20-year-old. There is a release clause in his contract that means he is available for a tick over £5million this summer. There is a growing expectation at Legia that he will be departing the club after just one season. If he does indeed move on, it would bank United a healthy sum, which will go a way towards easing their concerns with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules. The Red Devils are hoping to be busy this summer and any fee received will be greatly appreciated. In a surprise move given he left just 12 months ago, United will benefit substantially from Oyedele's potential transfer. When they sold him last summer, United inserted various clauses into the deal. While they only sold him for a small fee, one of the clauses they inserted was a substantial sell-on clause to ensure future profit. That sell-on clause means that United are entitled to 40 per cent of any fee Legia receive for the midfielder. If he is sold for his release clause, it would see United bank just over £2m. That money would likely go straight into easing their PSR concerns, with a buy-back option also included in the original deal. A departure for Oyedele would come as somewhat of a surprise given his short time in Poland. Speaking in April, the youngster insisted he was happy with life in the capital city. 'It's just funny for my mum because she left Poland to come to England and make a life; I left England to go to Poland to start my journey,' Oyedele told The Guardian. 'Legia was the biggest opportunity. "I don't even think I realised how big of an opportunity it was when I heard about it. I felt like this was the opportunity to play in Europe, the biggest team in Poland. It's my nationality, so it's close to the national team. "It's always a risk to leave it, but it just seemed like the best choice. I couldn't afford to waste another year playing academy football. I could have stayed in England and continued my journey and who knows what would have happened." Donnarumma's agent has already ruled out one transfer as Man Utd talks emerge
Paris Saint-Germain star Gianluigi Donnarumma has been linked with a sensational summer switch to Manchester United and his agent has already offered his thoughts on a switch Gianluigi Donnarumma's agent has already dismissed one potential rival to Manchester United by ruling out a switch to Napoli. The Italian goalkeeper faces an uncertain future with European champions Paris Saint-Germain. He has just a year left on his deal with the French giants and despite PSG chiefs attempting to tie him down, an agreement has yet to be found. That has opened the door to United, rivals Manchester City and Real Madrid. Reports have also suggested that that Donnarumma has been discussing the prospect of a move to the Premier League with his Italian teammates. Meanwhile, Donnarumma's agent Enzo Raiola has already denied that talks have been held with Serie A champions Napoli, who were also credited with an interest. Speaking to Radio CRC via Calciomercato, he said: "It's pure fantasy. I've an excellent relationship with Director Giovanni Manna at [Napoli], but we've never discussed Gigio. "It's an obvious question; many would like him, but only a few can afford him. He feels good in Paris, we're at the European champion club, so we have no complaints. We are working on a renewal [with PSG]." He added: "His mother is a huge Napoli fan, and she gets anxious watching their games. Gigio is connected to that.' Another side who have been linked with Donnarumma is former club AC Milan. The 26-year-old originally left the club to complete a free transfer to PSG in 2021. And Raiola has claimed that he would be open to a return to the San Siro. He said: 'I have never ruled out interest from the top Italian clubs, but there has never been a negotiation, let's see. He is still young, I have to squeeze him for at least another 10 years. 'At the moment, however, it is very difficult to see Donnarumma in the Italian championship, I'm not just talking about numbers but also about the sporting project. In Italy, beyond Inter who reached the Champions League final, there are Milan and Juve who are struggling, they are in the process of reorganizing: these factors are fundamental. "A return to Milan? Why not? We took Pogba from Manchester United to Juventus and then back to Juventus. There are no impossible things. Milan, even if it is not at its best, is always a very respectable club, which Gigio will always thank. Thomas Frank 'agrees' to become new Spurs boss with appointment one step away
Brentford manager Thomas Frank looks set to take over at Tottenham after reportedly agreeing terms with the club to replace the recently sacked Ange Postecoglou Thomas Frank has reportedly agreed to join Tottenham, with the Brentford boss set to replace Ange Postecoglou. Postecoglou was sacked by Spurs on Friday, just 16 days after leading the club to their first trophy in 17 years by winning the Europa League. Despite that triumph, Tottenham's struggles in the league proved impossible for chairman Daniel Levy to ignore and he made the call to axe Postecoglou. Spurs finished just one place above the relegation zone last season, suffering 22 defeats in 38 games. "Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw," the club said in a statement. "However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place. "Following a positive start in the 2023/24 Premier League (PL) season, we recorded 78 points from the last 66 PL games. This culminated in our worst-ever PL finish last season. At times there were extenuating circumstances - injuries and then a decision to prioritise our European campaign. "Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the Club's greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph. It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond." Frank immediately emerged as a leading contender for the vacancy and the Sun are now reporting that he is close to becoming Tottenham's new manager. It is claimed that Frank has agreed to join and Levy now needs to agree a compensation package with Brentford. Frank took over at Brentford in 2018 and has established the Bees in the top-flight after guiding them to promotion in 2021. As a result, the Dane has consistently been linked with vacancies at other clubs and was among the contenders for the Manchester United job last year. When asked about the links with United, Frank told the Sports Agents podcast: "I am probably at one of the best clubs in the world. End of discussion. In terms of alignment, leadership, culture, everything. Why should I ever leave this place? "Things can happen and you can want new inspiration, maybe you find another inspiration at your club and you stay. For sure, if I ever got the offer to go to a big club and I decided to go there, it would probably not make my life better. "I think we all know that. Maybe it is a challenge you need to try. It is not something I am thinking about. I have sacrificed a lot throughout my life to reach where I am now. I missed my children's birthdays for five years in a row. "I have been working 60, 70 hours a week for the last 30 years. You don't know how it would be if you walked into another job. Maybe it will be even better than it is here? "I don't know that and I am just looking at the exposure on certain managers. I don't think that is part of the football they love. I am happy here. What will happen in the future will happen and we will take it from there."
