#SHOWBIZ: Edika Yusof, Nor Hidayah divorced with single talak
KUALA LUMPUR: The 20-year marriage between actor Edika Yusof and Nor Hidayah Yusri ended today with a single pronouncement of talak (divorce) at the Federal Territory Syariah Lower Court here, at 10.42am.
Edika, whose full name is Mohd Yusof Abd Majid, 58, recited the pronouncement before Syariah Judge Syed Muhammad Syahadi Syed Siksh.
"I agree to release the plaintiff (Nor Hidayah)," Edika confirmed when questioned by the judge at the start of the proceedings.
The judge accepted the pronouncement and formally dissolved the marriage under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.
When asked if he had any final words for his now former wife, Edika replied in the negative.
Nor Hidayah, 47, in her final statement, tearfully appealed for Edika's understanding.
"As a wife, I have always acknowledged the good he has done, and my decisions are based on the law. I know I could have endured until the end, but legal considerations have led me to this decision. I hope he (Edika) understands," she said.
Following this, Edika and Nor Hidayah shook hands before the formal pronouncement of the divorce.
On March 24, Nor Hidayah's lawyer, Mohd Yazid Hazim of Messrs Yazid Azuhan & Associates, confirmed that she had filed for divorce in mid-February.
According to Yazid, the court set today's date for the divorce after an earlier postponement due to Nor Hidayah's then-current state.
Yazid also stated that Nor Hidayah's divorce application cited 10 grounds, which he declined to disclose in detail, citing privacy concerns.
Edika and Nor Hidayah were married in 2003 and have two children: Fardeen Nasrulhaq, 21, and Fereena Nurulhaq, 20.
The couple previously garnered public attention for Edika's dedication in caring for Nor Hidayah, who was partially paralysed after the birth of their second child.

In a video, which has gone viral, Mahathir claimed that the royal pardon granted to Anwar in May 2018 was invalid as it was not discussed by the FTPB. In response, the AGC today said the FTPB met at Istana Negara on May 16, 2018. The meeting was chaired by the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, it added. '(The meeting) was attended, among others, by Mahathir himself in his capacity as the prime minister at the time,' said the AGC. Screenshots from a video in which Dr Mahathir Mohamad claimed that Anwar Ibrahim's royal pardon in May 2018 was invalid as it was not discussed by the Federal Territories Pardons Board. 'Based on the board's advice, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong consented to grant a full royal pardon to Anwar, which took immediate effect from the date of the meeting. 'Any public statements that can mislead the public regarding the FTPB's decisions are wholly inappropriate.' The AGC also said it took a serious view of the matter as it concerned constitutional and institutional integrity. Anwar, who is now the prime minister, received a full royal pardon a week after Pakatan Harapan won power in the 2018 general election. He was freed after serving three years of his five-year jail term on a sodomy conviction. The FTPB is chaired by the king and includes the attorney-general, the federal territories minister and three others appointed by the king.

Two entertainment outlets shut down for operating without licences in KL
KUALA LUMPUR: Two entertainment outlets were ordered to shut down for operating without a licence during an integrated enforcement operation on Saturday. Dubbed Op KL Strike Force, the operation was jointly conducted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the police, the National Anti-Drug Agency, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi), and the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department. In a Facebook post, DBKL said checks revealed that one of the premises did not have a valid licence to operate entertainment activities, while the other was still in the process of applying for one. "Following the inspection, DBKL seized items used in the entertainment activities at the premises," the post read. According to the statement, 27 foreigners were detained by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department during the same operation. Nineteen people were also detained by the National Anti-Drug Agency after they tested positive for drugs. "Jawi issued 10 notices to individuals requiring them to give statements under the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997," it added.

Selangor Sultan presents letters of appointment to 32 individuals
SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, on Thursday (May 29) presented letters of appointment to 32 individuals, including Orang Besar Daerah Gombak, Datuk Cheremi Tarman, at Istana Bukit Kayangan here. The Sultan handed over the appointment letter to Sofian Ahmad from the Selangor Syariah Prosecution Department as the Selangor Syariah chief prosecutor, while Nenney Shuhaidah Shamsuddin received her letter as a Selangor Syariah High Court judge. Norsalwa Abdullah, Nur Fattah Ahmed, Muhammad Jimmy Muhammad Azlin and Rohaizad Redzuan received their letters of appointment as Selangor Syariah Lower Court judges. At the ceremony, one individual received a letter of appointment as registrar of the Selangor Syariah High Court, eight as deputy registrars of the same court, and three received their letters of appointment as assistant registrars of the Selangor Syariah Lower Court. A total of 11 people received their letters of appointment as Wali Raja registrars under Subsection 28(2) of the Islamic Family Law (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003, including Selangor Mufti Datuk Anhar Opir, while two people received letters as senior registrars. – Bernama
