Construction cost of YIIRSs far less than that of IDOCs: Sources
HYDERABAD: Refuting the allegations being levelled by the BRS leaders, the state government sources on Friday clarified that the construction cost of Young India Integrated Residential School buildings was far less than that of Integrated District Offices Complexes (IDOC) built during the previous regime.
'The cost fixed for Siddipet IDOC was Rs 4,058 per sqft. It was Rs 4,990 for Sircilla IDOC, Rs 3,994 for Mulugu IDOC and Rs 4,875 for Warangal East IDOC. But the cost fixed for Young India Integrated Residential School buildings was Rs 3,730 per sqft,' sources said.
The rate fixed for residential schools was very less when compared with cost of any construction activity taken up in the last two years, the sources said and added that the building cost was fixed in a transparent manner.
The state government took up the Integrated Residential Schools to provide quality education to BC, SC, ST, Minority and EBC students.
Though the BRS government constructed 600 residential school buildings, most of those were continued to be run from rented buildings without any amenities. Because of this, the Congress government decided to shift all those schools to the newly constructed Integrated Residential School buildings. Each Integrated Residential School can accommodate 2,650 students, sources said.
'Each Young India Residential School will have one academic building with four blocks (G+2) and a total of 1,60,339 sqft buildup are, six blocks of dormitory (G+3) with 2,57,451 sqft buildup area, dining and kitchen (G+1) with 41,860 sqft space and quarters for principal and staff. Each residential school will have 5,36,194 sft space, they added.

Gujarat Congress demands CBI investigation into MNREGA scam
Gandhinagar: The state unit of the Congress party has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the MNREGA scam in Gujarat. They alleged that minister Bachubhai Khabad, whose two sons were arrested for their involvement in the scam, is obstructing the investigation. Speaking to reporters in Gandhinagar, Amit Chavda, leader of the Congress Legislature Party, said that bills worth over Rs 3 crore were paid without any work being done under MNREGA on 12 land survey numbers belonging to Khabad's family. "We demand a CBI investigation into the scam. The minister has been obstructing the investigation in the case. Why has he not been removed from the cabinet?" Chavda questioned. Chavda said that despite the Congress submitting complaints with evidence of widespread MNREGA-related corruption, the govt has so far investigated cases only in Devgadh Baria and Dhanpur talukas. "A CBI probe will bring to the fore similar corruption cases in different districts," Chavda said.

‘Govt of being inconsiderate towards anganwadi workers': Protesters in Ludhiana demand better remuneration
Ludhiana: Anganwadi workers staged a four-hour-long protest against the central and state govts in front of Gate No.1 of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), pressing for their demands, including regularisation of jobs. The protesters also carried out a rally on Malhar Road and raised slogans against the govts. There are around 54,000 anganwadi workers in Punjab and about 4,500 workers in Ludhiana district alone. Usha Rani, president of the workers' union, said before the AAP came to power in the state, the party had promised to double the wages of Anganwadi workers and helpers. However, despite these commitments, no such changes have been implemented. "Even in today's time of soaring inflation, anganwadi workers earn only around Rs 10,000 a month, while helpers are paid just Rs 5,350," she said. She added that the workers, most of whom come from economically weaker sections, have been surviving on these meagre wages for years. "It is frustrating that the govt has continued to ignore our long-pending demands. They suggested that, following the Karnataka govt's model, nursery and LKG education should be conducted through anganwadi centres, and an Anganwadi Leaving Certificate should be made mandatory for admission to primary school. Additionally, they demanded that, in line with the New Education Policy, anganwadi workers and helpers be given the status of Nursery Teacher Training (NTT) teachers for their role in pre-primary education. They also demanded that on the lines of the govt of Karnataka and Gujarat, Anganwadi workers in Punjab, should also be given gratuity upon retirement. The anganwadi workers said the Centre has been monitoring their performance through the Poshan Tracker app, which tracks data related to children aged 0 to 6, including growth monitoring and pre-school education. Though the Centre allocated funds twice since 2016 for mobile phones to aid this work, the workers said the state govt has not released the money. "Most of us belong to economically weaker sections and cannot afford smartphones, which are essential for completing digital tasks," said Anita, an anganwadi worker. "Those who have smartphones had to buy them on their own. The govt must release the funds so we can purchase the required devices." Union president Usha Rani added that the funds should be used to provide laptops or tablets to simplify data entry. The workers also demanded that the mandatory KYC and facial recognition requirements be scrapped immediately. They further called for better infrastructure and supply of pre-school kits at Anganwadi centres. "Anganwadis should be upgraded and made state-of-the-art to match the services we're expected to deliver," said Amarjit, another worker.

Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, CM Siddaramaiah said, '11 died and 33 were injured in the stampede. This tragedy should not have happened. Our government will not do politics on this. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry and given 15 days' time. People even broke the gates of the stadium. There was a stampede.
