3 Stabbed, Dozens Arrested in Seaside Heights, New Jersey

Yahoo3 days ago

The Jersey Shore is one of the biggest destinations in the Northeast for Memorial Day Weekend. Seaside Heights, specifically, is a top spot. You might be familiar with the area from MTV's infamous Jersey Shore. This year though, Seaside's boardwalks, sandy beaches, and waterfront attractions aren't why the New Jersey town is making the news. Instead, it's because the real life behavior of Seaside's guests and locals is mirroring some of the rowdiest behavior on the show.
Between 6 a.m. on Friday, May 23, and 6 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 73 people were arrested and three people were stabbed near the boardwalk.
According to NJ.com, 52 adults and 21 juveniles were arrested in Seaside Heights over the weekend. The arrests were from many separate incidents including for fighting and other public disturbances. This year, Seaside had over 100,000 visitors, so it was a busy, crowded weekend. The stabbings were also three separate incidents less than one block away from the boardwalk, though all three victims refused to identify their attackers, according to police.
Overall, there's been more attempts to curb violence and crime during the holiday weekend by local law enforcement. ABC Action News 6 reported that there had been a 10 p.m. curfew in place for anyone under 18, closing the boardwalk to the public at midnight, and an increase in law enforcement. Still, there were numerous reports of fights and stabbings, in addition to the confirmed incidents.

Comedian Russell Brand to enter pleas on rape charges

British comedian and actor Russell Brand arrived at a London court on Friday where he was due to enter pleas on five charges of sexual offences including rape and sexual assault. He faces one count of rape, one of oral rape, two of sexual assault and one of indecent assault between 1999 and 2005, involving four women. Brand, 49, arrived at Southwark Crown Court in an open-buttoned shirt and dark blazer for the plea hearing, after being granted conditional bail at a previous hearing. He gained international recognition as the husband of pop star Katy Perry, but is better known in the UK for his hyper-sexualised and often lewd comedy routines and TV and radio appearances in the early 2000s. Now living partly in the US, Brand appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court in central London earlier this month, where he showed no emotion as a prosecutor read out allegations against him. Prosecutors charged Brand following a police probe into allegations aired in a 2003 Channel 4 documentary. He is accused of raping one woman in a hotel room following an event in the southern Bournemouth area in 1999. Another charge relates to the oral rape and sexual assault of a woman in 2004 in central London. The accusations involve four women, including one who was a TV worker, and another who was a radio station worker at the time of the alleged assaults. In a video response on X after he was charged in April, Brand said he was "grateful" for the "opportunity" to defend himself. "I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile, but what I never was was a rapist. I've never engaged in non-consensual activity," he said in the video. Born in 1975 to working-class parents in Essex, east of London, Brand began his stand-up career as a teenager, eventually working as an MTV presenter and host of a Big Brother spin-off. He presented a show on the BBC's Radio 2 station between 2006 and 2008, but quit after an on-air prank when he left a sexually explicit voicemail for "Fawlty Towers" actor Andrew Sachs about his granddaughter. Once a left-leaning political campaigner and Hollywood star, he has rebranded himself as a conservative guru to his millions of social media followers. Brand often peddles conspiracy theories, as well as sharing wellness tips, in his anti-establishment videos. Last year, he said he became a Christian after being baptised in the Thames river. aks/jkb/cw

'The Boys' Colby Minifie on Series Finale: ‘Extremely Satisfying'

If you weren't excited enough about how one of television's most chaos-loaded shows opts to bid farewell in its series finale, this should do the trick. Among the characters in the hit show The Boys, who dislikes (anti) superhero Homelander the most outside of the core group of Butcher, Hughie, Annie and the gang, Ashley, played by Colby Minifie, is high up on the list. Ashley has been bullied and pushed around by Homelander, among others, in Vought since Season 1, so when Minifie spoke about how the season finale plays out, it turned a few heads. This is mainly because she summed it up in a way that could tease what many fans of The Boys are hoping to see—the end of Homelander's reign. During an interview with ScreenRant, two words effectively summed up Minifie's thoughts after learning how the series finale plays out. "Extremely satisfying." "I just read the finale last night. It's an extremely satisfying finale," Minifie said. "That's what I will say. It's extremely satisfying. I was getting emotional reading it." Considering Ashley took Compound V at the end of Season 4, the same thing that has sent Butcher into a tailspin, but also allowed him to go toe-to-toe with Homelander and other superheroes, it makes the comments even more interesting. Fans will have to continue speculating for a good bit longer before we finally receive an answer on how the creators will end the series, as the expected premiere for Season 5 is in 2026. However, if the first four seasons are any indication, the last hurrah won't disappoint.'The Boys' Colby Minifie on Series Finale: 'Extremely Satisfying' first appeared on Men's Journal on May 26, 2025

'The Boys' Antony Starr on Homelander: ‘This Guy Is Not the Hero'

Since Season 1 of The Boys, Antony Starr's character, Homelander, has captivated audiences with his brutal, no-nonsense approach. He's gone toe-to-toe with anyone who gets in his way, even if it's a member of his own team. Homelander is the true definition of a "villain" in every sense, yet some fans have shown admiration of sorts for Starr's character. Ahead of the fifth and final season of the popular series, Starr spoke about the character's intriguing following during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. The man who portrays Homelander specifically wanted to throw cold water on any idea that the most powerful (anti) superhero in the show is a true "hero" in any fashion. "This guy is not the hero of any story," Starr said. "They [some fans on social media] were really glorifying him, they loved him. Which is surreal," he continues. Starr told Entertainment Weekly that he didn't expect viewers to ever side with Homelander. "What I didn't expect was that people would be so conflicted around it and, you know, finding themselves finding empathy for this monster," he reflects. The comments are eye-opening, but also show how incredibly well Starr has played the character. He and The Boys creator Eric Kripke didn't just create a superhero villain; they created an entire backstory about a person filled with unparalleled emotions. The big question looming in fans' minds now is how things will end for Homelander and the other cast members of The Boys. Season 5 is bound to provide fireworks, but it also has the potential to throw even more curveballs than fans have become accustomed to seeing over the first four seasons.'The Boys' Antony Starr on Homelander: 'This Guy Is Not the Hero' first appeared on Men's Journal on May 29, 2025
