HUAWEI WATCH FIT 4 Pro: Flagship features without the flagship price?

Khaleej Times16-05-2025

It comes with many of the trappings of a high-end smartwatch - aluminium casing with titanium bezels, sapphire glass, advanced health and fitness tracking, and even a golf mode
As a sleek and powerful smartwatch that just works with all smartphones without costing as much as a mid-range smartphone, the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 4 Pro has grown beyond Huawei's popular WATCH FIT series. This year, it is going up against the flagship smartwatches but without a flagship price tag. It comes with many of the trappings of a high-end smartwatch; aluminium casing with titanium bezels, sapphire glass, advanced health and fitness tracking, and even a golf mode. It's fashionable, lightweight, and highly functional.
So, what's the catch?
Ultra slim design
The squarish watch face of the WATCH FIT 4 Pro looks familiar, much like last year's WATCH FIT 3. The FIT 4 Pro is slightly thinner at 9.3mm and weighs 30.4 grams. Beyond the design, a lot has changed outside and under the hood. The WATCH FIT 4 Pro introduces premium materials such as sapphire glass, an aviation-grade aluminium body with titanium alloy bezels.
1.82-inch screen size remains unchanged, regardless, still respectable for a 2025 smartwatch. Yet it flexes a peak screen brightness of 3,000 nits, right up there with the best of the best in the market. Anybody who spends considerable time outdoors will appreciate such a bright screen. This display uses HUAWEI Hybrid AMOLED technology, featuring an ultra-high retina resolution of 347 ppi, bringing visuals to life with stunning clarity and detail.
Groundbreaking outdoor workouts
Fitness tracking on most smartwatches starts and ends with calorie tracking. Instead, the FIT 4 Pro becomes part of your sports gear with fully fleshed-out golf, diving, trekking and trail running modes.
The golf feature offers Course Mode and Driving Range Mode. The Course Mode provides access to over 15,000 golf course maps worldwide, showing detailed 3D layouts of golf courses. It accurately shows your distance from the front, centre, and back of the green, and from obstacles. Based on this info, you can pick the right club and plan your shots with precision. The Scorecard Operations allows you to score the putts on the green in the completed round directly on the scorecard. With Driving Range mode, golfers can practice and perfect their swings while tracking essential metrics like backswing time and swing speed.
This is also the first time for the WATCH FIT Series to support freediving up to 40 meters of depth. Diving Mode includes Freediving and Training Modes, making it a fantastic tool for amateurs and professionals. And with a complete suite of functions for detailed navigation like offline full-colour maps, route importation, backtracking, segmentation navigation, checkpoint navigation and real-time alerts, Advanced Terrain Map Tracking ensures you stay on track every step of the way, even when you are off the beaten path.
Comprehensive health management
Thanks to the HUAWEI TruSense System, the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 4 Pro has reached the industry-leading level in vital sign monitoring, including heart rate, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, body temperature changes, stress, emotional health, ECG, Arrhythmia risk, and Sleep Breathing Awareness. The watch features the HRV monitoring function during sleep. As a barometer of human health, the HRV indicator reflects the amount of physical and psychological stress and is often used in clinical diagnosis.
The Emotional Wellbeing Assistant is now available in HUAWEI WATCH FIT 4 Pro, designed to empower users to better understand and manage their emotional health. This feature offers real-time, data-driven insights into a user's emotional state, enabling continuous emotional monitoring throughout the day.
The HUAWEI WATCH FIT 4 Pro provides comprehensive support for women's health. It features a temperature sensor capable of detecting fluctuations in basal body temperature, enabling personalised, data-driven predictions of the user's menstrual cycle, ovulation period, and fertility, all powered by advanced physiological data analysis.
Even with all the extra features, the WATCH FIT 4 Pro retains exceptional battery life, with up to 7 days of usage in typical usage scenarios, and a maximum of 10 days. In addition, the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 4 Pro only takes 60 minutes to charge.
So, what's the catch? The surprising answer is... remarkably little.
It delivers premium materials, advanced health tracking, and genuinely useful specialised modes like golf and diving, all while maintaining excellent battery life. The 'catch,' if you can call it that, features like NFC and standalone LTE are missing here. However, considering the price, that's nothing to complain about.

From Saudi to Hong Kong: Tahaluf, ewpartners take LEAP global with Asia debut

Annabelle Mander, EVP at Tahaluf, along with Jessica Wong, founder and managing partner of ewpartners. Tahaluf, the organiser of Saudi Arabia's flagship technology event LEAP, has announced a strategic partnership with global investment firm ewpartners to launch LEAP East, a new Asia-Pacific edition of the mega event. It will take place in Hong Kong from 8-10 July 2026, marking the first time LEAP is held outside the Kingdom. The move underscores Saudi Arabia's deepening strategic focus on Asia and positions Hong Kong as a new gateway for Middle Eastern engagement with China and the broader region. 'With this timely and strategic expansion, we are bringing LEAP's award-winning vision and world-class innovation into this exciting new Hong Kong venture, creating a powerful platform for entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses to connect, collaborate and build the future of technology,' said Faisal AlKhamisi, chairman of the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming and Drones (SAFCSP), during an announcement at LEAP 2025 in Riyadh. 'Attendees will engage directly with the world's leading innovators, investors, and industry pioneers, making LEAP East a must-attend event for anyone shaping the digital future,' he added. LEAP East is expected to attract over 25,000 visitors, more than 200 speakers, and 300+ exhibitors across AI, fintech, healthtech, deeptech and more. Featured speakers will include Luanne Lim, CEO of HSBC Hong Kong; Jeanne Lim, CEO of beingAI and co-creator of Sophia the Robot; and Harry Man, founding partner at Matrix Partners. The event will also feature investment zones, startup showcases and exclusive networking sessions such as LEAP East Nights. The announcement was made during the opening of ewpartners' new Hong Kong office, attended by over 100 senior officials and business leaders from Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong. Attendees included representatives from OASES, HKEX, UBS, and HSBC. Peter Yan, director general of Hong Kong's Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES), said LEAP East 'could serve as a dynamic bridge between Hong Kong and the Middle East, empowering enterprises to collaborate, co-develop innovations, and unlock new market opportunities together. We appreciate ewpartners' pivotal role in making this initiative a reality, strengthening cross-regional partnerships, driving global growth through shared success, and reinforcing Hong Kong's position as a global innovation hub.' LEAP was launched in Riyadh in 2021 through a partnership with Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and SAFCSP. In 2025, the event drew 215,000+ attendees, 1,800+ exhibitors, and 1,600+ investors, generating $14.9bn in announced deals and an economic impact of $820m. Annabelle Mander, executive vice president at Tahaluf, said: 'LEAP was created in Riyadh to position Saudi Arabia as a global innovation hub. After four record-breaking editions, we're taking our next bold step, bringing LEAP to Hong Kong. This city is not only a gateway to Asia, but a proven launchpad for global ambitions. Through our partnership with ewpartners, we're proud to build a platform that unites Saudi and Asian-Pacific innovators on one world stage.' Jessica Wong, founder and managing partner of ewpartners, added: 'Our mission at ewpartners is to unlock high-value opportunities between the Middle East and Asia. We have been partnering with Tahaluf on LEAP for 5 years, and LEAP East further reflects that mission in action. Hong Kong has the connectivity, credibility, and creativity to host Asia's most ambitious tech platform, and we are honoured to help bring it to life.' The collaboration aims to mirror the impact of LEAP's Riyadh editions and drive significant business tourism and cross-border partnerships across Asia.

Scale AI's Alexandr Wang says US is trailing China on data

Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang said that in the race for artificial intelligence superiority, the US and China are "neck and neck", but Beijing is ahead in terms of accumulating data to build models. " China has had large-scale government programmes to win on data," Mr Wang said on Wednesday during at the AI+ Expo in Washington. But he said privacy is not a top priority for Beijing. "So you know, there are all these ways that naturally they will be ahead on data, and we need to make sure that we can match that." The race for AI dominance is not over, Mr Wang said: "We're ahead on compute, they're ahead on data and we're neck and neck on algorithms. He blamed "legacy reasons" for the US lagging behind China on data, the backbone of large-language models that make AI so powerful. To catch up to China, he suggested that the US create a national data reserve, and think of data in the same way as petroleum or other natural resources. "The first priority [in the reserve] should be national security data," he said. "There's so much incredibly useful and valuable data that right now is fragmented and not leveraged for building powerful capabilities." Mr Wang also insisted that the US has "much more" military data than China, but that data was segregated and fragmented. Mr Wang's discussion about AI came on the third and final day of the technology conference in Washington. While his was one of the more high-profile talks at the event, his company Scale AI – whose technology helps to train AI applications – has been criticised by those concerned about the junction between artificial intelligence and the defence industry. It already has some of the world's technology giants as its clients, including Meta, Microsoft and OpenAI. The company also works with the US Air Force and US Army. Mr Wang has openly stood behind his company's defence contracts. During a discussion at Centre for Strategic and International Studies in May, he insisted that the company's work and the use of AI for US military solutions was a "moral imperative". 'We're at the brink of this incredibly powerful new technology and the applications for national security are obvious," Mr Wang said. He said that a visit to China, where he saw AI companies working on facial recognition and surveillance, bolstered his belief that Scale AI should work with US defence. 'At that moment it was clear for me that the US would need to have the highest quality human capital and the best companies focused on this problem." The buzz around Scale AI continues to grow as the self-described "data-centric end-to-end solution" AI infrastructure company expands its footprint. Originally from New Mexico, Mr Wang founded Scale AI in 2016 shortly after dropping out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology when he saw AI developments creating the need for ways to provide and manage high-quality training data for technology companies and other large businesses. His company has more than 900 employees and secured at least $1.3 billion in financing, resulting in a $13.8 billion valuation. At the AI+ convention, he spoke highly of the AI partnerships recently announced during US President Donald Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia and the UAE. "Now what we're seeing is that we want to get ahead in this AI age and that's the motivating idea behind what you saw in the Middle East," Mr Wang said. He said that he expects similar partnerships and announcements with other countries in the years ahead.
