The Fijian women's 15s team will have a tough one to handle when they host the Wallaroos for the first-ever Test match on Fijian soil in Suva on Saturday.
The visitors, who arrived in Fiji on Wednesday, have named a strong lineup, which includes Fijian heritage player Tabua Tuinakauvadra.
Fijiana have also named their strongest match-day 23 and a new captain in Fijiana Drua player, 20-year-old Alfreda Fisher, who becomes the youngest player to captain the national women's 15s team.
The two teams will battle at the National Stadium following the Super Rugby Pacific match between the Fijian Drua and Reds.
While new Fijiana head coach Ioan Cunnigham has been off the field because of sickness, Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne has been helping Ifereimi Rawaqa to prepare for the match.
Rawaqa told reporters in Suva this week that they expect the Wallaroos to be tough but they have worked on their set-pieces and game plan to counter the experienced visitors.
"It's all about execution," the former Flying Fijian and current Fijiana Drua head coach said.
"We worked on our lineouts and other details. In terms of our preparations, everyone is okay, everyone is on the same page, and we're looking forward to Saturday."
Cunningham, who has joined the team after recovering from his sickness, said his selection of Fisher as captain may be surprising to some but the player has proven herself.
"Firstly, we're really excited and looking forward to this historic fixture," he said.
"Fisher being named captain is fantastic for her - she's been a standout individual in our group, leading by example. She's performed really well, especially with the Fijiana Drua in recent weeks, and we're incredibly proud of this opportunity for her."
Assisting Fisher as vice captain will be Vani Arei, who has recovered from her injury sustained during last year's World Cup Qualifier in Brisbane.
Former captain Bitila Tawake has been named on the bench but Olympic bronze medallist Rusila Nagasau packs down at number 8.
Cunnigham said they are happy with the match-day 23 selected.
The selected match day 23 blends youth with experience.
"We're really pleased with the team we've selected," Cunnigham said.
"We've spoken a lot about this opportunity to inspire, to go out there, enjoy the moment, and express themselves. This is still a key part of our journey towards the Rugby World Cup."
Fiji Rugby Union's operations and development general manager Sale Sorovaki said the Test clash is an important one for the Fijians, ahead of the Women's Rugby World Cup in England.
"It's the first time the Wallaroos are on Fijian soil and as a rugby nation, we've had a lot of Test matches for the men, but having the Women's World Cup this year in England, it's great to see the Wallaroos coming to Fiji and taking on the Fijiana," Sorovaki told The Fiji Times in Suva this week.
"It's part of the build-up to the 2025 Rugby World Cup preparations for women, which will be held in England and these two teams have met on probably three occasions before."
When the two teams last met in Sydney on July 6, 2024, the Wallaroos thrashed Fijiana 64-5.
Two previous matches also went the Wallaroos way, a 22-5 win in 2023 and a 36-19 victory a year earlier.

Meanwhile, former Australian sevens star Charlotte Caslick is in line for her Wallaroos debut.
Coach Jo Yapp has named the player on the bench in his match-day 23, alongside fellow sevens star Tia Hinds.
The team have six potential debutantes in the team with Brumbies hooker Katalina Amosa - the sister of current Wallaby hooker Brandon Paenga-Amosa - and Waratahs prop Faliki Pohiva named in the starting side.
Amosa's call-up will see her and Brandon become the latest brother-sister duo to play for Australia in 15s.
The Wallaroos will feature a number of players with Pasifika heritage, like Pohiva, who has been rewarded for a breakout season for New South Wales.
"Every player in line for a debut is deserving of their opportunity and this Test match will allow us to see some new combinations," Yapp said.
"There are plenty of inspiring stories with the new players coming in, as well as some who are returning from long term injury."
Siokapesi Palu, who has Tongan heritage, will skipper the side for this Test and the Pacific Four series.
"Siokapesi will lead us for this match and the Pacific Four series and the leadership group and players will support her," Yapp added.
"Fijiana will provide us with a huge challenge in their own country. The fan support will be on their side and we look forward to playing them here in Suva for the first time."

Crusaders v Reds live updates: Super Rugby qualifying round

The Crusaders host the Reds in the first qualifying round match of the Super Rugby Pacific playoffs. Crusaders team to face the Reds The Crusaders will be bolstered with the return of All Black Will Jordan as they host the Reds on Friday night in the first match of a new-look Super Rugby Pacific playoffs format. The 27-year-old will don the fullback jersey after almost a month on the sidelines with a knee injury, in one of four changes made by coach Rob Penney to the starting lineup that edged the Brumbies 33-31 in Canberra at the weekend. The Crusaders' front row stocks have also been strengthened, with All Black Fletcher Newell named at tighthead prop and Kershawl Sykes-Martin on the bench after both nursing injuries. The midfield combination of captain David Havili and Braydon Ennor returns to round out the changes made to the starting XV. While the Crusaders sit comfortably in second place heading into the qualifying finals, their spot in the Super Rugby Pacific semifinals is not guaranteed. If they lose to the Reds on Friday and the Blues upset the Chiefs in Hamilton, the Crusaders' season will be over. Crusaders: 1. Tamaiti Williams, 2. Codie Taylor, 3. Fletcher Newell, 4. Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman join Australia SailGP team as co-owners

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman became co-owners of the Australia SailGP team. The Deadpool & Wolverine stars joined driver and chief executive Tom Slingsby in leading the team's rebrand after several successful seasons, winning three championships in its four seasons. The team will be called the BONDS Flying Roos, with the Australian underwear company BONDS as its title partner. "We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure," Reynolds and Jackman said in a joint statement released through SailGP. "Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country, as well as being an avid fan of sailing. He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human along for the ride. Apologies in advance to Australia. No comment on whether we're writing this in our BONDS. No further questions." Parliament punishment, free money?, getting wicked again (Source: 1News) ADVERTISEMENT It's the latest sports venture for Reynolds, who along with fellow Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney is a co-owner of Wrexham, one of the world's oldest football clubs. Reynolds and McElhenney were also among a group of investors in the Alpine Formula One team in 2023 and were part of an investment group that acquired Colombian club La Equidad earlier this year. The BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team is expected to make its debut at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix starting June 7. Slingsby, an Olympic gold medallist, said in a release that Jackman and Reynolds bring "unmatched star power, a love for storytelling, and a sharp sense of [humour] that fits perfectly with our team".

By the numbers: Moana Pasifika's 2025

Photo: Photosport / Elias Rodriguez Moana Pasifika has achieved good numbers in 2025 in attendance, digital reach and individual accolades. Their season came to an end without a playoff spot, but the North Harbour-based franchise said in a statement on Tuesday their season has been what fans have labelled memorable. More than 48,000 people attended Moana Pasifika games, five played at North Harbour Stadium and two at Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe. Chief executive officer Debbie Sorenson said the "season has been phenomenal and I'm so proud of our players, staff and sponsors for all of their hard work that went into making it a success". "A massive thank you has to go to our people for showing their support wherever our team was playing," she stated. "You brought the energy and atmosphere to our games, which is uniquely Pacific. We are so lucky to be able to use our platform to share this with the world." The franchise said they saw an average increase of 369 percent in scanned attendance at each of their home games, compared to the previous season. Over 680 of those fans were members who attended all five of the matches at Albany. 2024 World Rugby Player of the Year, Ardie Savea, led the team to six wins, the best they have recorded in their four-year history. Four of those wins were against New Zealand franchise clubs - the Blues, Crusaders, Highlanders and the Hurricanes. Moana Pasifika. Photo: Andy Radka/ActionPress The club finished the regular season in seventh on the standings, just one step away from having qualified for the play-offs . Savea was voted the inaugural Super Rugby Pacific Player of the Year, as voted by opposition coaches and captains, and also named as the best number seven in the competition, his name appearing in the honorary Super Rugby Team of the Year . Super Rugby fans acknowledged the individual efforts of players too, voting for Moana Pasifika standouts as the Player of the Week for five of the 14 rounds that the team played in. That saw Miracle Faiilagi (round 4), Patrick Pellegrini (round 7), Feleti Sae-Ta'ufo'ou (round 8), and Ardie Savea (round 12 and 14) named as the best player of those rounds. The club said a key part of building fan connection to the team this season was through the social media channels and the authentic, unbarred, fun content produced. Moana Pasifika have added over 150,000 new followers across social platforms in 2025 year to date - more than the five New Zealand clubs combined. The club said the introduction of Moana Pasifika vlogs gave fans access to engaging, behind-the-scenes, player-led content of the team, driving YouTube subscriptions up by 462 percent. Interestingly, the United States, South Africa and the United Kingdom are some of the top countries that make up Moana Pasifika's audience - alongside New Zealand, Australia and Pacific Island nations.
