Blue state city council reconsidering trans member's nomination after discovering OnlyFans account: report

Yahoo13-03-2025

Members of a Washington state city council will hold a special meeting just days after appointing a new councilor who identifies as a "bisexual transwoman" while operating an OnlyFans account, according to reports.
MyNorthwest.com reported that Jessica Roberts was the Lynnwood City Council's original choice to fill a vacant seat, though, on Thursday, the council plans to consider rescinding the appointment after it was discovered Roberts had an account on the subscription-based platform where some creators share explicit pictures, videos and messages.
While Roberts' account has been taken down, the account's bio reportedly identified Roberts as a "bisexual transwoman." The bio also included graphic details about Roberts' body parts, the publication reported.
The council recently appointed Roberts to fill a vacant seat.

"I have calls into the city clerk and executive assistant with similar questions, as well as questions regarding the 'blind' appointment process," City Councilor Derica Escamilla told MyNorthwest.com in an email.
Escamilla responded to questions about whether council members were allowed to have an OnlyFans account.

Another council member, Patrick Decker, told the publication he was not aware of Roberts' views, adding he did not feel the views and activities are "in keeping with the gravity and seriousness" of serving the public as a city council member.
Lynnwood officials did not respond to Fox News Digital's requests for comment on the matter.
City officials posted about Roberts' appointment in a Facebook post Monday.

"The Council interviewed their top candidates earlier in February, and this evening voted to select the appointee," the post said. "During the March 17, 2025, Work Session Meeting, she will take her Oath of Office and be seated immediately."
The post also noted that a formal announcement including a biography and quote from Roberts would be provided next week.
That could all change after the council meets this week.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, when council members will evaluate Roberts' qualifications to serve in an elected position.
An agenda posted to the city's site shows that, after the evaluation, council members will consider rescinding the appointment or discuss the next steps in the process.Original article source: Blue state city council reconsidering trans member's nomination after discovering OnlyFans account: report

ICE presence reported in Coachella Valley but immigration agency mum so far. What we know

This story has been updated into include new information. Reports of a large presence of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers at locations in Cathedral City and Palm Springs circulated online Friday along with videos and images that appear to show the agency's officers and their vehicles. ICE had not responded to a request from The Desert Sun for information about the nature of the observed activity as of late Friday afternoon. Luz Gallegos, executive director of TODEC, an organization that advocates for the rights of immigrants, said volunteers had observed activity in the area. They said the operation appeared to have been targeted toward someone in particular and not a mass immigration sweep. But the organization is still waiting on additional information to confirm, she added. Rep. Raul Ruiz, a Democrat who represents parts of the Coachella Valley, said in a statement Friday afternoon that he has "formally requested more information from ICE regarding the raid by masked agents in unmarked vehicles in Cathedral City.' Ruiz added that he was 'actively monitoring the situation and following reports.' Local anxiety and concern was stoked as immigration sweeps were reported across Los Angeles Friday. President Donald Trump has proclaimed that his administration would focus on deporting those in the country illegally. Gallegos said TODEC's 24/7 hotline started receiving calls about the situation at 7:45 a.m. TODEC's trained volunteers went out once they received a location and documented that there was an ICE operation behind Cardenas Markets on Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City, she said. That shopping center was one of several locations where people reported seeing ICE agents. The other locations included two other shopping centers and strip malls along Ramon Road, including the centers located around the Ramon Road's intersection with Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs and its intersection with Landau Boulevard in Cathedral City. There were also reports on Facebook of ICE agents at a shopping area at Date Palm Drive and Highway 111. California's U.S. Sens. Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla and two U.S. congressmembers from the state released a statement on Friday calling for an internal ICE investigation into a recent raid in San Diego that reportedly saw 20 ICE agents detain four employees of two restaurants in the city. The senators said the agents wore "military-style gear" and raided the restaurants during peak dining hours, detonating flash-bang grenades and instilling widespread fear and panic across the restaurants and the broader San Diego community. The lawmakers called the raid "disturbing" raid and said it reflects a pattern of 'theatrical' immigration enforcement stunts under the Trump Administration They urged ICE's Office of Professional Responsibility to investigate the agents' use of force, tactical decisions, compliance with legal protocols, and coordination with local officials, as well as the operation's impact on local communities and businesses. They also requested information on how the raid aligns with ICE's current immigration enforcement priorities and what guidance agents had received regarding enforcement in civilian or public-facing settings. Padilla released another statement Friday condemning what he called "a series of sudden immigration raids" that occurred Friday across Los Angeles. 'The ICE raids across Los Angeles today are a continuation of a disturbing pattern of extreme and cruel immigration enforcement operations across the country," the statement read. "These indiscriminate raids prove once again that the Trump administration cares about nothing but instilling harm and fear in our communities to drive immigrants into the shadows. It will not work. This fearmongering is not going to change the fact that immigrants are valued members of our communities who contribute to our society and economy, and my office will demand accountability for today's actions.' Fact Check: Bernie Sanders did not say 'Why not both?' to impeaching Trump and deporting Musk

Claim: U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders said, "Elon is calling for Trump's impeachment. MAGA is calling for Elon's deportation. Why not both?" Rating: As U.S. President Donald Trump and tech billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk engaged in a war of words over social media in early June 2025, many people online attributed a quote to Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT. According to a Reddit post, Sanders allegedly said: "Elon is calling for Trump's impeachment. MAGA is calling for Elon's deportation. Why not both?" (Reddit user u/Pumuckl4Life) Even though he has been a critic of Trump and Musk, Sanders never said the above words. We found no evidence in his publicized statements, in the news media or on his social media accounts to corroborate the claim. As such, we rate this claim as an incorrect attribution. We reached out to Sanders for comment on whether he made the above statement. A spokesperson from his office denied the above claim. We also looked for examples of Sander's comments to the media by searching for segments of the above quote on Google News. If Sanders had said this in public it would have been widely covered by news media publications. We also found no similar statements on Sander's Senate website or his social media accounts. However, on June 5, the Facebook group U.S. Democratic Socialists did post the statement without attributing it to anyone. Sanders has used similar language. In a June 6 post from his official campaign account on X. Sanders criticized both Trump and Musk by using their arguments to bolster his point: Trump's right: The easiest way to save money is to eliminate the "Billions and Billions" in corporate welfare Elon Musk has received. Musk's right: Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill" is a "disgusting abomination" that must be defeated. Let's do both. It'll be a win-win for America! Sanders was referring to Trump's threats to cut off federal subsidies and contracts with Musk's companies, which could cost Musk billions of dollars. He also was referring to Trump's tax and spending bill, which Musk called a "disgusting abomination" on X. Since Trump's inauguration, Sanders has been traveling the country on a "Fighting Oligarchy Tour" looking to build up resistance to the Trump administration. While Sanders did not advocate for Musk's deportation, in February 2020, he did vote to convict Trump in the Senate impeachment trial during his first administration. He also voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial in 2021. Meanwhile in June 2025, Steve Bannon, a former aide to Trump, called for an investigation into Musk's immigration status: "They should initiate a formal investigation of his immigration status, because I am of the strong belief that he is an illegal alien, and he should be deported from the country immediately." Fact Check: Fake Trump post claims Musk 'totally' did a Nazi salute

Claim: An image authentically shows U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, "That totally was a Nazi salute that Elon did by the way. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it." Rating: A rumor that circulated online in June 2025 claimed U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that tech billionaire and former White House adviser Elon Musk "totally" did a Nazi salute. The alleged post read, "That totally was a Nazi salute that Elon did by the way. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it." The text displayed in the image referenced a moment from Trump's second Inauguration Day in January in which Musk raised his arm in a gesture that many compared to the stiff-armed salute historically associated with Nazism. Musk later blamed (archived) the "legacy media" for supposedly misinterpreting his actions. Snopes readers emailed about this matter, with one person asking, "True or false? In the current feud between Trump and Elon Musk, the president has publicly commented on Musk's previously reported Nazi salute." Another reader also wrote: "There is a photo on Facebook that appears to be a Trump 'Truth' that says: Elon did in fact do a Nazi salute on stage and everyone knows it." On social media, an X user posted (archived) the image of the alleged Trump post. That user's post, which received more than 1.5 million views, displayed a text caption suggesting the image was nothing more than a joke, reading, "Hahahaha this one is actually funny." Numerous users shared the purported Trump post image or quote on Bluesky (archived), Facebook (archived), Instagram (archived), Threads (archived) and X (archived). (Matthew Rife/X) As the X user's post hinted, someone with the goal of creating a meme fabricated the image of the Trump Truth Social post that said Musk performed a Nazi salute. No such post appeared on Trump's Truth Social feed. There was also no sign of the post on Trump's Truths, a website that archives Trump's Truth Social posts. The fake post screenshot circulated at the same time as a rift widened between Trump and Musk in early June, days following Musk's departure from his role as White House adviser. The rift began with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO's disagreement over provisions included in a Republican-backed bill, referenced by Trump as the "big, beautiful bill," which features tax breaks and spending cuts. Musk called the bill a "disgusting abomination." At one point during the back-and-forth between Trump and Musk, which mostly occurred on social media, Trump floated (archived) an idea on his Truth Social account of terminating federal subsidies and contracts associated with Musk's companies. Musk then fired back on X, alleging Trump appeared in unreleased government files associated with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Musk added (archived), "That is the real reason they have not been made public." He did not provide evidence to support his claim. In an emailed statement to Snopes, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to Musk's allegation about Epstein not by directly addressing Snopes' question but instead sending a general statement about the pair's feud. "This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted," Leavitt said. "The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again." For further reading, Snopes reported in early June that Musk shared another user's post who called for Trump's impeachment, and also posted that Trump "would have lost the election" without his support.
