SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—The Highland Area Partnership has announced the date for a jazz festival that has been held in Shreveport since 2003.
The 21st annual Highland Jazz and Blues Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13. This year's fest will celebrate the music, culture, and community of Shreveport.
Musicians and bands interested in performing at the festival must apply by Mar. 21.
The festival, held yearly at Columbia Park in Shreveport, features established and emerging artists.
Columbia Park paves the way for a more accessible city
Students in 11th and 12th grades are encouraged to enter the festival's poster contest. The winning design will be featured as the festival's official souvenir poster. The poster's artist will also receive media recognition and a $500 cash prize.
The poster submission deadline is Mar. 21.
The Highland Jazz & Blues Festival is sponsored by the Highland Area Partnership, a 501(c)3 organization that connects Shreveport residents through the arts, music, and food. Proceeds from the sale of t-shirts, posters, beverages, sponsorships, and donations finance the festival.

A Grammy-award-winning blues singer will headline the 10th annual BBQ, Blues and Brews festival this weekend in West Palm Beach's Heart and Soul Park. The free festival takes place June 28 from 5-9 p.m. and will feature live music, a barbecue competition and beer tastings. Headlining the festival is blues singer Cedric Burnside, a Mississippi-based musician whose 2021 album 'I Be Trying' won the Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album. He also has been a nominee for three other Grammy awards. Burnside is scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m. Performing before him will be Ladi T and the Super Star Players and The Derek Mack Band. A judged barbecue contest will feature grillers from several local barbeque spots, including Fosters BBQ, A & A Roadside BBQ and Jerk Center, MeatHead's BBQ, Gilberts Riblets, Da King of BBQ, Eat N' Cake and Twisted Smoke BBQ. 'They will grill, roast, smoke, and serve classics like juicy pulled pork, tender chicken, smoky ribs, and more to guests and to the judges, who will award prizes in multiple categories,' a city news release stated. The festival, organized by the city's Community Redevelopment Agency, takes place at Heart and Soul Park, 825 N. Rosemary Avenue, West Palm Beach. Lot parking is available nearby at 444 W. You can take in the beauty by cruising through miles of these gorgeous plants along the nationally recognized 136-mile Boom or Bust Byway. After making your way down this yellow-colored route, you can enjoy sunflower-themed festivities at Gilliam's Sunflower Festival, which will be in full bloom in the center of Gilliam from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Just around the corner from Mian Street Café, located at 12807 Main Street, you'll find vendor booths lined with handmade crafts, artwork, and unique gifts. He released his first album, 'Shut Up and Dance', in 2002, which gained him regional and some national recognition. Now he has reached the Billboard Top 10 of the Country Album chart five times. His album 'The Underdog' reached number one on the Billboard Country Albums chart in 2015. Watson is known for his dedication to his fans, often staying late after performances to interact with them. He is a key figure in the independent country music scene, inspiring other artists to pursue their own path. Aaron Watson will perform with openers Garrison Wright and his son Jake Watson at Bear Creek Smokehouse in Marshall.
