'Hope He Got Food For Thought': Shashi Tharoor Mocks Asim Munir's Lunch With Donald Trump

Shashi Tharoor took a jibe at Asim Munir's meeting with Donald Trump, implying it was a reward for praising the US President. He hoped Munir got "food for thought" with the lunch.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday took a dig at Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, who was hosted at the White House by US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, and hoped he must have got 'food for thought" while having lunch with Trump.
Tharoor said that according to the White House, Munir had once said that Trump should be conferred the Nobel Peace Prize. Soon after, he was rewarded with a lunch there, he said.
'I haven't seen the outcome of the meeting," Tharoor said, on being asked to comment on the Trump-Munir meeting.
'According to the White House, this general had said that the President should get the Nobel Peace Prize, and then he was rewarded with a lunch. I hope the food was good and he has also got some food for thought in the process," the Congress MP said.
Tharoor also said he hoped that the United States would remind Pakistan the relevance of not supporting terrorism to breed on its soil, and that the United States must not have forgotten the World Trade Centres attacks on September 11, 2001.
'I hope the Americans will remind Pakistan of the great importance of not supporting terrorism, of not enabling, equipping, financing and dispatching terrorists to our country," Tharoor said.
'It is our hope that everyone in the US government must not have forgotten the Osama bin Laden episode," he added.
'I hope while the general (Asim Munir) was being wined or lunched and munched, at the same time, he would have got some messages that would also be in America's interest," Tharoor remarked.

Pak army chief Munir's meeting with Trump lasted over two hours: ISPR
Islamabad: Pakistan's Army Chief Asim Munir held wide-ranging discussions on counter-terrorism efforts, rising tensions in the Middle East and enhancement of bilateral trade during his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House, the Pakistani military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated on Thursday. The meeting took place at a time when Munir's visit to the US has been overshadowed by widespread protests led by members of the Pakistani diaspora and supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Reports suggest that the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs Steve Witkoff also took part in the meeting. From the Pakistani side, Munir was accompanied by the Director General of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik. According to the ISPR, the meeting, initially scheduled for one hour, extended for over two hours, "underscoring the depth and cordiality of the dialogue". The discussions, it said, also encompassed avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation in multiple domains, including trade, economic development, mines and minerals, artificial intelligence, energy, cryptocurrency, and emerging technologies. "President Trump expressed keen interest in forging a mutually beneficial trade partnership with Pakistan based on long-term strategic convergence and shared interests. Munir acknowledged President Trump's statesmanship and his ability to comprehend and address the multifaceted challenges faced by the global community," ISPR stated. While Munir's visit is being projected as a step towards strengthening military and strategic ties with Washington, the recent backlash from overseas Pakistanis turned his stay at the luxury hotel in Washington into a scene of charged demonstrations. Protesters chanted slogans accusing Munir of human rights violations, branding him as "Pakistanio ke qatil" and "Islamabad ke qatil" -- meaning "killer of Pakistanis" and "killers of Islamabad", respectively. A video widely circulated on social media showed one protester yelling, "Geedad, geedad, geedad (jackal, jackal, jackal)", a derogatory term used to suggest cowardice and deceit. The clip quickly went viral and was described by analysts as a public embarrassment for the Pakistani military establishment. Pakistani-Americans demonstrating outside the hotel stated that their goal was to remind General Munir of the crimes he is allegedly responsible for against the people of Pakistan. Karnataka Government Increases Housing Quota For Muslim Community From 10% To 15%

The revised quota is expected to benefit a larger section of the Muslim population, ensuring better access to government-supported housing projects. While addressing the media, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar said, 'This decision has been taken keeping in mind the population ratio and the underutilization of several housing projects. It is essential to fill these vacancies, and the Muslim community, given its population share, deserves increased representation in welfare housing." He also took a swipe at the opposition, stating, 'The BJP has no agenda other than playing politics in the name of Muslims. Our government is committed to inclusive development, and this move is a step in that direction.' The Congress-led state government had earlier introduced provisions to extend reservation benefits to minority communities in government contracts as well. This latest move adds another layer of affirmative action targeting improved living conditions for minorities, particularly the Muslim community. The enhanced quota is expected to roll out soon, with guidelines being framed for its implementation.
