Former Indian envoy Taranjit Singh Sandhu questions Pakistan's credibility in chairing UNSC Taliban Sanctions Committee
Washington DC [US], June 5 (ANI): Former Indian Ambassador of India to United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, on Thursday, who is part of the all-party delegation in US, questioned Pakistan's credibility in chairing the United Nations' Taliban Sanctions Committee and serving as the vice-chair of UN Security Council's Counter Terrorism Committee.
Sandhu further questioned how much authority the Pakistani Army might have given to the delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto, who is in the US at the same time as India's delegation.
'On the UN, it also implies how seriously Pakistan will take terrorism, especially when such a responsible position they are given. A very high-power parliamentary delegation led by Mr Bhutto is here - how much authority and power the Generals or Marshal side has given to them?' Sandhu said in the US.
Pakistan is set to chair the United Nations Security Council's Taliban Sanctions Committee in 2025, which is responsible for enforcing sanctions, asset freezes, travel bans and arms embargo against people or organisations which are associated with the Taliban. Pakistan will also serve as the vice-chair of the Counter-Terrorism Committee this year, which was established after the September 11 attacks in the US. The looks to implement various measures to counter terrorist activities across the world.
Further hitting out at Pakistan, Sandhu said that while the US and India 'share a bond of democracy,' Pakistan is controlled by its army.
'For Indians, democracy starts on our dining tables... All of you have seen the democracy that exists in Pakistan. Their Army controls their democracy. The United States and India have a bond of democracy between them. We have to ensure that the important democracies of the World monitor the irresponsible people who wield power in Pakistan, so they can't get away with shortcuts,' he said while interacting with the Indian diaspora.
Earlier on June 4, Bilawal Bhutto, who is on a visit to the US, addressed a briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York and sought reconciliation with India, making a plea for talks and Intel sharing between the two neighbours, after the neighbouring country suffered losses post Operation Sindoor.
The Pakistani side has suffered great losses after it attempted to target Indian defence and civil installations in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor.
As per an ongoing analysis of the damage inflicted upon by the Indian Air Force on Pakistan Air Force, it is emerging that 6 PAF fighter jets, two high-value aircraft, over 10 UCAVs, one C-130 transport aircraft, along with multiple cruise missiles, were destroyed by Indian air-launched cruise missiles and surface-to-air missiles. 'I emphasised to the Pakistani delegation the importance of combatting terrorism, and in particular, the group Jaish-e-Mohammed, who murdered my constituent Daniel Pearl in 2002,' the Congressman said. 'Pearl's family continues to live in my district, and Pakistan should do all it can to eliminate this vile group and combat terrorism in the region,' he added. Daniel was kidnapped by terrorists in Pakistan in January 2002, while he was on his way to what he had expected would be an interview with Pakistani religious cleric Mubarak Ali Gilani in Karachi. During the meeting, Sherman also called for the release of Dr Shakil Afridi, who continues to languish in prison for helping the United States kill Osama bin Laden . Dr Afridi is a Pakistani physician who helped the CIA run a polio vaccination programme in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The campaign eventually helped in the collection of the DNA sample of the Bin Laden family. Afridi was eventually arrested by Pakistani authorities shortly after the American raid on Bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad in May 2011. Representative image (ANI Photo) Nearly 30 suspended after probe shows 100 false documents issued from identical addresses, revealing coach-MCD official nexus NEW DELHI: In a major age-fraud case, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) announced a ban on nearly 30 junior wrestlers after they were found to have procured and submitted fake birth certificates, predominantly obtained from areas under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi 's (MCD) Narela and Rohini jurisdictions among its 12 administrative zones. Fake birth certificates of the junior athletes procured from identical addresses came to light after a TOI investigation revealed a network involving wrestlers, coaches and officials from the MCD, all working in collusion within the Capital's municipal zones that border neighbouring Haryana. As per the investigation, the examination of documents involving at least 100 wrestlers revealed inconsistencies between addresses and birth dates on their registration certificates and the information provided to the WFI. The governing body is now scrutinising around 400 cases from Haryana alone in which young athletes are suspected of using fake certificates from Delhi to become eligible for younger age-group events. The main objective appears to be securing college admissions and potential government jobs. Passports given to the WFI revealed residential addresses in Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Sonepat. The WFI made queries to several zones of the Municipal Corporation of Haryana (MCH), as well as the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB), exposing the extensive scale of the age-fraud case. It was revealed that nearly all wrestlers under review had secured fake birth certificates from identical place of registration – in Begumpur under the Narela jurisdiction and Mangolpuri in the Rohini zone. A detailed scrutiny of original birth certificates from Haryana municipal authorities, as well as passports, revealed actual birthplaces and addresses in Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Sonepat, in addition to differing DOBs. Most of the wrestlers were born between 2006-2009 but had birth certificates registered in 2021-2022, indicating a disparity of nearly 14-15 years. The federation checks with the department of health services, Municipal Corporation Rohtak, revealed his true DOB as 16/10/2006, with his home in Rainak Pura village, Rohtak. Similarly, national-level wrestler Rohit Gulia was found to have manipulated personal data repeatedly, including DOB changes and unauthorised Aadhar updates (seven times from 2013 to 2021). His official birth certificate from the Municipal Corporation of Rohtak documented his DOB as 17/10/1999, while he declared it as 17/10/2001 in national competitions. Both Dipanshu and Rohit have now been banned by WFI from all future tournaments. WFI president Sanjay Singh has written to Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta to act against MCD officials. 'What is particularly alarming is the frequency of such (false) certificates being issued after a considerable lapse of time. This is contrary to the normal practice, wherein birth certificates are typically issued within one- or two-months following birth. The Narela zone, situated close to the Haryana border, has seen a disproportionately high number of such delayed issuances. I urge your office to kindly direct the concerned authorities in all MCD zones to exercise strict scrutiny and restraint in issuing birth certificates where the application is made after an unusually long delay,' he added. MCD has admitted to the lapse and said it will probe this issue.

"Let's put the two aspects in context- first is, we are in the role- Canada's in the role of the G7 chair and in those discussions as agreed with our G7 colleagues, include important discussions on energy, security, on digital future, critical minerals amongst others and partnerships actually in building infrastructure in the emerging and developing world," he said. Carney said that India is central to a number of supply chains, which makes its presence pertinent at the G7 chair consultation. "There are certain countries that should be at the table for those discussions, and in my capacity as G7 chair, I will consult with some others to make those determinations. India is the fifth largest economy in the world, effectively the most populous country in the world, central to a number of those supply chains at the heart of a number of those supply chains, so it makes sense," he said. Carney said that India and Canada are acting on law enforcement, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted his invitation.
