Windows' infamous 'blue screen of death' will soon turn black
Nearly every Windows user has had a run in with the infamous 'Blue Screen of Death' at some point in their computing life. Now, after more than 40-years of being set against a very recognizable blue, the updated error message will soon be displayed across a black background.
The changes to the notorious error screen come as part of broader efforts by Microsoft to improve the resiliency of the Windows operating system in the wake of last year's CrowdStrike incident, which crashed millions of Windows machines worldwide.
'Now it's easier than ever to navigate unexpected restarts and recover faster,' Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft wrote in a Wednesday announcement.
As part of that effort, Microsoft says it's 'streamlining' what users experience when encountering 'unexpected restarts' that cause disruptions. And that means a makeover to the infamous error screen.
Beyond the now-black background, Windows' new 'screen of death' has a slightly shorter message. It's also no longer accompanied by a frowning face — and instead shows a percentage completed for the restart process.
Microsoft says this 'simplified' user interface for unexpected restarts will be available later this summer on all of its Windows 11 (version 24H2) devices.
And for PCs that may not restart successfully, Microsoft on Wednesday also said it's adding a 'quick machine recovery' mechanism. The will be particularly useful for during a widespread outage, the tech giant noted, as Microsoft 'can broadly deploy targeted remediations' and automate fixes with this new mechanism 'without requiring complex manual intervention from IT.'
Microsoft said this quick machine recovery will also be 'generally available' later this summer on Window 11 — with additional capabilities set to launch later in the year.

How to use the spoiler feature on Threads Anyone can use the spoiler feature on their posts. All you have to do is highlight what you want to hide, tap and select "mark spoiler." That will blur the text or image you selected for others. This feature doesn't mean you won't see posts about your favorite pop culture and entertainment topics. It lets you choose when you're ready to know more. All it takes is a tap. However, it's worth pointing out that it's up to those who make the post to decide if they mark something as a spoiler. So spoilers could abound until most people adopt the feature. Even still, it's good to see a feature that allows you to stay in the loop without spoiling major plot points along the way.

That's why I'm a big fan of robot vacuums, especially ones with built-in mops that can handle all the cleaning on their own. The Omni C20 is one of Eufy's newer vacuum and mopping combo units that offers several automated cleaning features to make your life easier. The all-in-one station can empty, wash, dry, and refill the C20 between cleanings. It can also wash then dry the mop, so the robovac doesn't wind up smelling like a gym locker while it roams your house. A transparent water tank allows you to easily monitor water levels without having to open the all-in-one station. It features two sweeping and mopping modules, each capable of 180 rotations per minute. That should be enough to remove most tough stains on your floors. Additionally, the Omni C20 features adequate suction (7,000Pa), a rolling brush, and a side brush, all of which allow it to tackle dirt, crumbs, and pet hair. Speaking of hair, the robovac includes a 'pro-detangle comb,' which can loosen and remove tangled hair from the brush. That said, anti-tangle brushes can be hit or miss, so it's always a good idea to clean it manually. While we haven't had the opportunity to test the Omni C20, our experience with Eufy robovacs has been generally positive. We chose the Eufy X10 Pro Omni as the best midrange robot vacuum / mop combo, and the Omni C20 offers a similar suite of features.
