Banaganapalle: For the first time in its history, Muharram celebrations in Banaganapalle commenced under official government patronage with grandeur and reverence. Recognizing the significance of the event, the coalition government sanctioned Rs.10 lakh towards the observance of the festival. The ten-day mourning period began on Thursday late evening with a solemn procession led by descendants of the Nawab family. State Roads and Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy participated in the ceremonial installation of the traditional 'Alams' (religious standards) at the Nawab Asthana (palace), offering floral tributes and prayers.
Symbol of Communal Harmony and Sacrifice:
Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar, marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his kin in the historic battle of Karbala nearly 1,500 years ago. Though it signifies the beginning of a new year in the Hijri calendar, Muslims observe the month as a period of mourning. The ten-day commemoration, culminating in Ashura, is marked by paying homage to the valor and sacrifice of Imam Hussain, who stood against tyranny for justice and righteousness. Alams are installed in Ashur Khanas, and Fatihas (prayers) are offered in memory of the martyrs.

Banaganapalle holds a unique place in Andhra Pradesh's religious and cultural history. Formerly ruled by Shia Nawabs under the Hyderabad Nizam's domain, the region has long observed Muharram with traditional fervor. Even after the princely state merged with India, descendants of the Nawab family have continued the observance of Muharram with devotion. People of all faiths, including Hindus, actively participate in the festivities—offering prayers, fulfilling vows, and engaging in processions known locally as "Peerla Panduga." The celebrations reflect deep-rooted communal harmony, as both Sunni and Shia Muslims along with Hindus join the events.
Second Only to Hyderabad in Significance:
In the undivided Andhra Pradesh, Banaganapalle ranked second only to Hyderabad in terms of the scale and significance of Muharram celebrations. Since state bifurcation, it now holds the top spot in Andhra Pradesh. This year's celebrations are particularly notable with government support and Minister BC Janardhan Reddy's official presence. From the ceremonial 'Chinna Sarigeysu' on the seventh day to the grand Alam procession on Ashura, the town becomes a vibrant hub of spiritual remembrance and cultural expression. Devotees from nearby villages gather in large numbers to witness the processions, which reenact the sacrifices of Karbala through passionate rituals and chants.

India on Friday banned imports of certain jute products and woven fabrics from Bangladesh through all land routes, permitting entry only via the Nhava Sheva seaport in Maharashtra, amid increasingly strained relations between the two nations. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), in a notification, said 'Import from Bangladesh shall not be allowed from any land port on the India-Bangladesh border. However, it is allowed only through Nhava Sheva seaport.' It added, 'Imports of certain goods from Bangladesh to India are regulated with immediate effect.' The restricted items include jute products, flax tow and waste, jute and other bast fibres, single and multiple jute yarns, woven fabrics of flax, and unbleached woven fabrics of jute, PTI reported. The DGFT clarified that these restrictions will not apply to Bangladeshi goods transiting through India to Nepal and Bhutan. However, re-exports of these products from Bangladesh to India via Nepal and Bhutan will not be allowed. This move marks the third such curtailment in recent months. State to roll out new solar policy in 15 days: Samrat
1 2 Patna: Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary on Friday announced that the state govt will introduce a new policy on solar energy and pump power storage within the next 15 days. Speaking at the Renewable Energy Expo held at the Patna Planetarium, he said the policy would be designed to attract both private and public sector investment in the state's renewable energy sector. Choudhary, who also holds the finance portfolio, made the announcement on behalf of CM Nitish Kumar. "Pump power storage and solar energy have been given special priority in the new policy," he said. Choudhary added that the govt is making continuous efforts to promote other forms of renewable energy, especially solar. He also revealed that the state currently provides an annual subsidy of Rs 15,000 crore to ensure affordable electricity for its residents. Highlighting Bihar's progress in electrification, Choudhary said, "While only 17 lakh families had access to electricity two decades ago, the number has now grown to 2.14 crore families, who are receiving cheap and uninterrupted power." He credited CM Nitish Kumar and energy minister Bijendra Yadav for making electricity available in Bihar at the lowest rate in the country. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana, the govt plans to expedite the connection of agricultural pumps to solar energy and the extension of grid-connected solar power to rural areas. The provision of solar-powered pumps to farmers and mini-grid-based electricity in remote regions is also under consideration. Rs56cr sanctioned for road & drain projects across state
Patna: Patna's Mandiri locality will soon see improved connectivity as road construction department minister Nitin Nabin on Friday laid the foundation for the restoration of six roads at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. In addition to this, the minister approved 12 infrastructure projects worth Rs 56 crore aimed at renovating roads and drains in various districts, including six such initiatives in Patna. "The govt is committed to maintaining every street and developing every neighbourhood. Efforts are being made to ensure smooth traffic flow and eliminate waterlogging in the city. In this context, the foundation for the renovation of these six roads, costing approximately Rs 2 crore, was laid on Friday," Nabin said. These projects fall under the Bankipore assembly constituency, which he represents, and will be executed by BUIDCO under the Mukhyamantri Samagra Shahri Vikas Yojana. The six local projects in ward 26 include plain cement concrete (PCC) road construction from Bans Ghat Kali Temple to Sinha Medico Hall, Papin Gali, and from Om Narayan Singh Ji's house to Bachchan School at Ganga Mahal.
