Swans aim to avoid another Darling situation
Director of football Richard Montague says Swansea City will attempt to avoid another Harry Darling situation in the future by ensuring the club's key players do not run down their contracts. Centre-back Darling is attracting interest from a host of Championship clubs this summer, partly because he is available on a free transfer. Advertisement Swansea tried to persuade Darling to sign a new deal – and their offer remains on the table – but former boss Luke Williams suggested the club should have made an earlier attempt to tie the former MK Dons player down. Darling is not the first Swansea player in recent seasons to see his contract come to an end – and Montague accepts the club must look to avoid similar scenarios in the future. "We want to keep our best players and we don't want to get in the situation where those players can do what Harry has been able to do, which is brilliant for Harry but less good for us as a club," he said. [Huw Evans Picture Agency] "We want to avoid that as much as possible. That is going to be a key focus going forward, either deciding on when is the right time to cash in on an asset and when is the right time to extend someone's contract, either to grow with us or become an even stronger asset for us. Advertisement "I can understand why situations develop but we have to do our best to try to avoid them." Josh Tymon and Josh Key were two of Swansea's star performers in 2024-25 and are among the club's most saleable assets. The two full-backs see their current deals expire next summer, although there club have the option of extending both those contracts by a further 12 months. When asked whether Tymon and Key's contract situations should be addressed sooner rather than later, Montague added: "We will absolutely be talking to those guys as the season begins, in pre-season as well, but we haven't had any conversations yet."

Who's on the 2025-26 non-conference schedule for Alabama basketball as of June?
Thirteen grueling games of non-conference play conditioned Alabama basketball for another deep run in the NCAA Tournament last season. Crimson Tide coach Nate Oats hasn't let off the gas in crafting Alabama's 2025-26 non-con slate and has spent the offseason sharing that he plans on his team having the "best schedule in the country again." Now that Labaron Philon is back in the driver's seat for the Crimson Tide's back court, it seems winnable. Advertisement As of now, Alabama's schedule next season starts with a visit to Madison Square Garden to face St. John's on Nov. 8. The two could even meet again depending on how things shake out at the Players Era Festival later in the month. Alabama walked away from Las Vegas as the runner-up to Oregon, which will be in attendance this year alongside Auburn, Baylor, Creighton, Gonzaga, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan, Notre Dame, Rutgers, San Diego State, St. Joes, Syracuse, Tennessee and UNLV. Including the Players Era Festival, Alabama has six confirmed dates on the schedule, plus certain appearances in the SEC/ACC Challenge, and against North Dakota and Yale. There's also been circulation of a potential matchup with South Florida, coached by former Crimson Tide assistant Bryan Hodgson. Alabama's latest addition to the schedule, as reported by Rocco Miller, will come against another member of Oats' coaching tree, Austin Claunch, who led University of Texas-San Antonio to a 12-19 record in his first season at the helm last year. Former St. John's guard RJ Luis explains decision to remain in 2025 NBA draft
Former St. John's guard RJ Luis explains decision to remain in 2025 NBA draft St. John's junior RJ Luis said Friday that he is enjoying the opportunity to prove himself in team workouts ahead of the 2025 NBA draft on June 25-26. Luis was a consensus second-team All-American last season, averaging 18.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, two assists and 1.4 steals on 33.6% shooting from 3-point range. He was also named the Big East Player of the Year, becoming the third player in program history to win the award. The 6-foot-6 guard entered the transfer portal following the season while also declaring for the draft. He opted to remain in the draft before the early entry withdrawal deadline, a decision that his head coach, Rick Pitino, completely backed. "I had an amazing year, and I think I deserved to take the next step in my journey," Luis said after working out with the Sacramento Kings, via Sean Cunningham of KCRA-TV. "The whole coaching staff and St. John's were supportive of my decision. It is great to leave there being a member of St. John's and not having to go to a different school or stuff like that." Luis registered 14 20-point games this past season, including a season-high 30 points and 10 rebounds on Jan. 11 in a win over Villanova. He was one of two players in the conference to rank in the top five in both scoring and rebounding. The 22-year-old competed in the draft combine last month, averaging 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in two scrimmage games in Chicago, Illinois. He also registered the 11th-highest max vertical jump among all participants this year (38 inches). Luis has visited 10 teams so far this draft cycle, including the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns. He is embracing the predraft process and looking forward to his remaining workouts. "Everything is just really a blessing," Luis said. "Coming from where I come from, being out of Miami, not a lot of guys come out of there, so it is truly a blessing to be able to get these workouts. ... This is great. I'm blessed to be here."
