Mets Tagged As Trade Destination For AL East All-Star Outfielder
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. As of Thursday, the New York Mets hold the best record in the National League. With a front office that is consistently aggressive in building their team, the Mets will be looking for pieces to add for the stretch run. With the Baltimore Orioles limping through the early portion of the season, by contrast, that team will likely be looking to unload some of its expiring contracts. BOSTON, MA - MAY 24: Cedric Mullins #31 of the Baltimore Orioles makes a sliding catch on Ceddanne Rafaela #3 of the Boston Red Sox during the seventh inning of game one of a doubleheader... BOSTON, MA - MAY 24: Cedric Mullins #31 of the Baltimore Orioles makes a sliding catch on Ceddanne Rafaela #3 of the Boston Red Sox during the seventh inning of game one of a doubleheader at Fenway Park on May 24, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. More Photo ByThe Orioles are stumbling through the season and will likely offload some players at the deadline, one of them being centerfielder Cedric Mullins. Mullins was an All-Star in 2021, and while he has not reached the level of play from that season in recent years, he is off to a strong start, already surpassing the halfway point of his home run total from last season. The Mets have received solid play in centerfield from Tyrone Taylor, but Mullins brings a substantially better bat into play. MLB Insider Jeff Passan of ESPN believes the Mets should target Mullins as the deadline approaches. Believing that his bat will bring a stronger depth to an already potent Mets lineup. Mullins' bat is not the only tool that the former All-Star possesses; his glove has been great in centerfield, whereas Taylor has been fantastic. Mullins' bat slots him ahead on the depth chart, should a move be made. With the Mets front office being aggressive in roster building, the Orioles' former All-Star should be circled as a target to bring some ferocity to the lineup. The Orioles will almost certainly be looking at what Mullins can get them if their season does not turn around, and the Mets should be waiting on the other end of the line when the phones start to ring. Fans Notice the Same Thing About Shohei Ohtani After Dodgers Surprise
Fans Notice the Same Thing About Shohei Ohtani After Dodgers Surprise originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani got a surprise from LA manager Dave Roberts on Wednesday. In a video shared on Instagram by the Dodgers, Ohtani was shown getting called to Roberts' office, where the reigning National League Most Valuable Player received a gift from the skipper and his wife. Advertisement It was a nice little pink Porsche car that Roberts explained was a present for Ohtani's daughter, who was born on April 19. 'Thank you, I love it,' Ohtani told Roberts, who said that the gesture was a 'joke, but a sincere joke' for his player's daughter. Ohtani also said that he thought he was 'in some trouble,' eliciting laughter in the room. Many fans reacted to the wholesome manager-player moment in the Dodgers clubhouse, but others also noticed Ohtani's seemingly improving command of the English language. "He's English is so good now," said a fan on Instagram. Another one said: "His English is getting better and better 🔥🔥🔥 love to see it!' Advertisement From a commenter: "Is it me or is his English way better.' 'The world is not ready for English-speaking Shohei,' a social media user posted. Via a different commenter: 'Ohtani speaks in good English accent but laughs in Japanese sound 😂.' Said another: 'Wow, his English has gotten a lot better.' Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani gestures before the game against the Hanshin Yamashita-Imagn Images It was not as much fun on the field for the Dodgers on Wednesday, though, as they suffered a 6-1 loss to the New York Mets. That was LA's second loss through three games of the four-game set against New York at Dodger Stadium. Ohtani went 2-for-4 in the contest, but he did not score or drive in a run. As a team, the Dodgers left seven runners stranded on the bases, as they went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. As for Ohtani, he is hitting .292/.388/.650 and is tied for the big league lead for home runs with 23 taters. Ex-GM's Yankees-Mets Trade Idea Would Send All-Star Batting Champion To Bronx
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The New York Yankees currently have DJ LeMahieu and Jorbit Vivas at second base. With Jazz Chisholm Jr. back in the hot corner, the Yankees may want an upgrade next to Anthony Volpe. LeMahieu is not the same player he once was, and his health is hardly reliable. The Yankees look like World Series contenders again, but may need to find an upgrade up the middle of their infield to reach the World Series again. Former New York Mets general manager Zack Scott suggested Jeff McNeil could be a target for the Yankees. "The Mets have some surplus," Scott said on "Baseball Night in New York." "Maybe Jeff McNeil would be a great fit for the Yankees." NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 28: Jeff McNeil #1 of the New York Mets reacts after hitting a three-run home run in the sixth inning against the Houston Astros at Citi Field on June... NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 28: Jeff McNeil #1 of the New York Mets reacts after hitting a three-run home run in the sixth inning against the Houston Astros at Citi Field on June 28, 2024 in the Queens borough of New York City. MoreThe Mets suddenly have Luisangel Acuña, Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio as options to play if they trade McNeil. McNeil has split time between the outfield and second base. McNeil signed a four-year, $50 million deal before the 2023 season. He was coming off a season in which he won the National League batting title with a .326 average. He has not been able to maintain that type of production, but he would be an upgrade over the Yankees' current options. He is slashing .247/.349/.461 with three home runs after missing a month of the season. If the Mets are comfortable with Acuña as an everyday player, in either the outfield or at second base, they could move on from McNeil. The Mets may have reservations about trading McNeil to the Yankees, but it may help them get an expensive player off the books and make way for some young players to get more playing time. McNeil is a two-time All-Star and would help the Yankees try to reach the World Series again. More MLB: Paul Skenes to Red Sox? Insane Trade Thought Pushed by MLB Network Host
