Veteran forward Claude Giroux signs one-year extension with Ottawa Senators
OTTAWA – Veteran forward Claude Giroux has signed a one-year contract extension with the Ottawa Senators.
The contract carries a base salary of US$2 million for next season with bonuses that could reach a maximum value of $4.75 million.
'Claude brings veteran leadership and a competitive edge to our group and has been a consistent presence on and off the ice,' said Ottawa general manager Steve Staios. 'We are excited to bring him back next season.'
Giroux had 15 goals and 35 assists in 81 regular season games for the Senators last season. In three seasons with Ottawa, the 37-year-old Giroux has only missed one regular-season game with 71 goals and 122 assists in that 245-game span.
He has amassed 365 goals and 751 assists for a total of 1,116 points — 66th all time — over his 18 seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, Florida Panthers and Senators.

DETROIT (AP) — Tarik Skubal struck out 13 hitters in seven innings and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 3-0 on Sunday night. Skubal (10-2) only allowed one hit — a clean single to right by Ty France in the fifth inning — as he improved to 10-0 with a 1.74 ERA in his last 15 starts. The last double-digit streak in one season by a Detroit lefty was Earl Whitehill's 11-start stretch in 1930.
