Seven PGA Tour events are losing Monday qualifiers
There are seven events on the 2025 PGA Tour schedule that will not have a Monday qualifier starting in 2026: Sony Open in Hawaii, WM Phoenix Open, Mexico Open at Vidanta, Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, Puerto Rico Open, Corales Puntacana Championship and Myrtle Beach Championship. The last three of those are opposite-field events. Myrtle Beach (May 8-11) is the only tournament still to be played.
New PGA Tour rules going into affect for 2026 dictate that events with 120 players will no longer have Monday qualifiers. Those with 132 will go from four to two qualifiers. Events with 144 or 156 will remain at four qualifiers.
5 Monday qualifiers went on to win on PGA Tour
Since 1980, only five Monday qualifiers went on to win later that week: Corey Conners (2019 Valero Texas Open), Arjun Atwal (2010 Wyndham Championship), Fred Wadsworth (1986 Southern Open), Kenny Knox (1986 The Honda Classic), Jeff Mitchell (1980 Phoenix Open).

LIV Golf has made Joaquín Niemann rich, but can it make him a star?
Joaquín Niemann has won more LIV Golf events than Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Sergio García or Dustin Johnson. He won five of the previous 20 LIV events he played in, in fact, including three of the seven on the 2025 calendar heading into this weekend's tournament at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. That means he has won as many events this year as Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, the world's top-ranked golfers, who compete on the rival PGA Tour.

Scheffler has been on an all-time hot streak, opening the door for the other competitors. That does not mean the competition will take too steep a drop-off, as Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Aberg, Corey Conners, Shane Lowry, and Wyndham Clark will still be taking the course. McIlroy has not been as active as of late, ever since winning his first career Masters and completing a career Grand Slam.
