Kenya's Junior Starlets confident of back to back World Cup qualification

CAF06-03-2025

Kenya will start its journey towards qualifying for back-to-back FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup competitions, when they take on neighbours Uganda in the second round of the CAF qualifiers this weekend. The Kenyan side was one of the three African teams to compete at last year's showpiece in the Dominican Republic.
This was the first time ever that a Kenyan team, male or female across all age categories, was playing at a World Cup. And now, with the 2026 competition set for African soil in Morocco, head coach Mildred Cheche and her charges are optimistic of qualification.
'We tasted that bit of action and we now know what it feels like to play at a World Cup. That feeling has ignited more hunger in us and the girls want to go back there. We have new players who have been called up and they also want to taste the feeling. That combined effort is what is driving and pushing us towards qualification,' coach Cheche told CAFOnline.
The tactician says they are not taking anything for granted despite the pedigree of last year's qualification, and with more expectation now on their shoulder, says they have to take everything seriously.
'I look at it as motivation, knowing that people expect a lot from us. It is not pressure on our end. We have prepared well over the last two weeks and we have worked on every little detail. We know we face a tough Uganda side and our aim is to take the best result from the away leg,' added the coach.
Heading to Uganda, the coach has a huge chunk of the players who featured at the World Cup still eligible for qualification for 2026. Last year's captain Elizabeth Ochaka leads the legion of World Cup debutantes who are in the team.
However, coach Cheche has switched leadership roles within the team, and has tasked Halima Imbachi, who was also at the World Cup, to skipper the team in this campaign.
'It is such a huge honour to be given this role as captain and it means the team trusts me,' Imbachi told CAFOnline.
She added; 'My job is to guide the team, especially the new players as we head to Uganda to ensure that we start with a win. There is a lot of confidence within the team and we want to go and do our best.'
The winner in the second round duel between Kenya and Uganda will meet the winner between Ethiopia and Cameroon, for one of three available African tickets to play at the World Cup next year.

Ronaldo Declines Brazil's Fluminense Offer to Participate in 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

Rana Atef On Saturday, media reports indicated that Cristiano Ronaldo turned down the opportunity to play for Brazilian side Fluminense in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Fluminense President Mario Bettencourt confirmed that the club reached out to Ronaldo to join the team ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Bettencourt shared the details on the Setor Sul podcast, saying, "I have a relationship with Jorge Mendes (Ronaldo's agent), but it's not very close. I asked him if there was any possibility of Cristiano playing in the Club World Cup, and he was very clear in stating that he is not interested in playing for any Brazilian club at the moment." Rumours had circulated last month that a Brazilian club had approached Ronaldo for a potential move, especially given that four Brazilian teams—Palmeiras, Botafogo, Flamengo, and Fluminense—are participating in this year's Club World Cup. Mendes' comments suggest that Ronaldo is not considering any of these four Brazilian clubs for the prestigious tournament, effectively ruling them out if he plans to feature in the global event. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan

Inter Milan Reach Official Agreement with Romanian Coach Cristian Chivu

Rana Atef On Friday, Inter Milan reached an official agreement with Romanian coach Cristian Chivu, former manager of Parma, to take over as head coach of the first team, succeeding Italian Simone Inzaghi. Inzaghi departed Inter Milan to take over as head coach of Saudi club Al Hilal in the upcoming period. According to Fabrizio Romano, the agreement involves a two-year contract, a decisive step taken after negotiations with Cesc Fàbregas, coach of Como, fell through. Fàbregas had been a prominent candidate for the position. Cristian Chivu is no stranger to Inter fans, having played for the club during his playing career. He also held various coaching roles in the club's youth sector, where he led the U-19 team to the Italian youth league title. However, Chivu successfully guided Parma to safety, finishing the season in 16th place, avoiding relegation to Serie B. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan
