Trans support is on the rise despite Supreme Court ruling endangering rights
Google Trends analysis shows that support and ally-ship for the trans community has doubled since last June with searches for "transgender" and "trans flags" peaking after UK Supreme Court ruling
2025 has seen a decline in rights and safety for the British transgender community, after the UK Supreme Court ruled in favour of the definition of a woman being biological in sex. However, recent analysis of Google search trends show support for the trans community has risen 50 percent in the last year.
On April 16, UK Supreme Court judge Lord Hodge confirmed the Equality Act would now refer to the term woman as "a biological woman and biological sex". At the time, Judge Hodge was adamant that the ruling was not a clear win for either the community or For Women Scotland (FWS), and insisted that the law protected trans people against discrimination. The LGBTQ+ community and trans charities disagree.
Trans charities and activists shared their worries with the Mirror on the day of the ruling, sharing how they believed the Supreme Court decision would allow space open for further hate-crimes on trans individuals. A spokesperson of trans charity Gendered Intelligence said: "Sadly, this judgement is likely to empower those who want to exclude trans people, but we trust that this remains a small minority".
Since the ruling, both activists and allies for the trans community have come together in solidarity and support for the minority suffering the societal displacement, especially after the new definition saw an active exclusion of the community from general public places like gendered toilets.

Charity TransActual also made a stand on May 21 after planting a trans-flag themed toilet on the UK Supreme Court steps after Baroness Kishwer Falkner's, active chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, stated that trans rights groups should create their own separate "third space," effectively adding to their exclusion of women's spaces.
And yet, despite all of this, Google Trends has found that that " Transgender" terms have been searched more than ever in 2025, with searches for the " trans flag" increasing by 50 percent compared to last June.

By this, we can infer that the general British public are showing up in solidarity against this ruling that endangers both the trans community and women who claim the real harm to women and general perpetrators are cis-gendered (biologically born and identifying) men.
Women's Aid states that, from an On Track national data report which relates to female service users, an overwhelming majority of alleged perpetrators are male, at 94.4 percent, in 2024. Many LGBTQ+ allies have argued that the ruling, which directly effects segregated places like bathrooms and prisons, puts both cis-gendered women, and trans men and women, at risk of harm and abuse.
The Mirror also reports that, in the 2021 Census in England and Wales, only 0.5% of the population said that their gender identity was different to their biological sex at birth, making them a clear minority group in the UK.

The so-called 'card' is really a deal with wealthy foreigners and British expats who want access to a bespoke tax system that could save them money. There would be a hefty price tag attached to this agreement though: a one-off payment of £250,000. Under Farage's plan, that money would then be redistributed to some of the country's lowest-paid workers in the form of an annual payout. Labour have argued the arrangement would end up leading to tax hikes on working families, as the government would miss out on funds it would have got from people who choose to buy the card. Sign up here. The Britannia card is a snappy name given to the new tax plan suggested by Nigel Farage and his Reform party. It aims to stop wealthy non-doms – people whose permanent home is outside the UK for tax purposes – from leaving the country, while also boosting the income of the poorest. The offer is simple: pay a one-off fee of £250,000 to the government and they won't be taxed on any wealth, income or capital gains earned abroad. They also wouldn't need to pay inheritance tax. Holders of the Britannia card would still need to pay tax in the normal way for any income and gains earned in the UK. The second part of the plan is even more radical. All the cash collected from those one-off fees would not go towards public services like the NHS, police or schools: instead, it would be sent directly to the bottom 10% of UK earners. In effect, it's a form of 'Robin Hood tax', taking money from the rich and redistributing it to the poor. According to Reform's sums, if 6,000 non-doms paid for a Britannia card each year, that would give a £600 income boost to 2.5 million of the lowest-paid Brits. In a press conference today, Farage responded to a description of his wealth redistribution plan as 'profoundly left-wing' by saying that 'could not be further from the truth'. He argued: 'We're saying we want people who make loads of money to come in to Britain in huge numbers and pay lots and lots of tax and buy lots of houses and spend lots of money.' But Labour said non-doms would only pay for the card if the fee is less than the amount of tax they already pay, meaning it would reduce overall tax revenues. A spokesperson said: 'As ever with Reform, the devil is in the detail. Iran makes chilling vow to kill 50,000 soldiers as British sites on high alert
US President Donald Trump warned if Iran does not stop its nuclear enrichment programme and strike a deal for peace that regime change could be a distinct possibility Iran has vowed to kill as many as 50,000 American soldiers as British service personnel remain on high alert for a retaliatory attack after the devastating strikes at the country's military sites. Tehran's mullahs have scrambled to assert that they remain a threat to the US and its allies in the Middle East and beyond after President Donald Trump followed Israel's lead by bombing three nuclear sites in Iran over the weekend. State television, which parrots the Islamic regime's talking points, showed a map of US bases across the Middle East with particular focus being paid to ones in neighbouring Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq, which are all in range of Iran's missiles. Al Jazeera reports the channel's anchor Mehdi Khanalizadeh said: "It is now clearer than ever, not just for the Iranian nation but for the whole peoples of the region, that all US citizens and military personnel are legitimate targets. "We were negotiating and progressing through a diplomatic path, but you chose to spill the blood of your soldiers. The US president in the Oval Office chose to take delivery of the coffins of up to 50,000 US soldiers in Washington." The editor of Iran's hardline Keyhan newspaper also attempted to exert strength on behalf of the regime. He wrote: "It is now our turn to immediately rain missiles down on the US naval force in Bahrain as a first measure." But American officials have been defiant, stating the bombings were a huge success that crippled Iran's nuclear programme. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also praised Mr Trump for launching the attack that he said would "change history" and deny Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. British officials have been more cautious and warned that UK military sites were now on high alert. In a column for The Telegraph, Defence Secretary John Healey said: "The safety of UK personnel and bases is my top priority. Force protection is at its highest level, and we deployed additional jets this week." Senior defence officials are concerned Iran could use drones to wreak havoc at UK military sites following the success of Ukrainian operations against Russia. The Ukrainians previously used drones to cripple 40 Russian aircraft, including those capable of carrying nuclear warheads. UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer previously confirmed additional RAF jets would be deployed to the Middle East in a bid to enhance security at its bases. Britain has bases in the Middle East including RAF Akroiri, in Cyprus, where 14 RAF jets are currently stationed, as well as naval hubs in Bahrain and Oman.
