The Golden State Valkyries snapped a four-game skid with a dominant 95-68 win over the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday, bolstered by Kayla Thornton's double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, Cecilia Zandalasini's 18 points and Veronica Burton's 12 assists.

That victory improved the Valkyries to a 3-5 record in their inaugural 2025 campaign.
On Sunday, the Valkyries announced the temporary suspension of forward Zandalasini's contract to allow her to represent Italy at FIBA EuroBasket 2025, which runs from June 18-29 across venues in the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Greece.
The competition will determine continental supremacy and serve as a qualifier for the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup, with Italy's squad relying heavily on Zandalasini's WNBA experience.
Zandalasini enters her first season with Golden State after being selected from the Minnesota Lynx roster in the December 2024 expansion draft.

In her four appearances (two starts) this year, she's averaged 10.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 23.0 minutes per game.
A decorated international talent, Zandalasini was a WNBA champion with the Minnesota Lynx in 2017, WNBA Commissioner's Cup champion (2024) and MVP of the 2016 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship.
She has also won multiple Turkish league and cup titles with Fenerbahçe (2019, 2020, 2021) and an Italian Supercup crown (2023).

Zandalasini's departure will leave a 10-point-per-game scoring void at the small-forward spot and test Golden State's young depth.
Management has signaled that Zandalasini will rejoin the roster immediately after Italy's EuroBasket run, but with eight games between now and the end of the month, she leaves a significant hole to fill.

Former Chicago Sky Star Sends Strong Message to WNBA in Retirement Announcement

Former Chicago Sky Star Sends Strong Message to WNBA in Retirement Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Chicago Sky star Allie Quigley has called it quits from the WNBA. On Tuesday, Quigley shared her goodbyes, announcing her retirement from basketball in a lengthy message with The Players Tribune. The 5-foot-10 guard closed with this: Advertisement "Alright, guys……… that's it for me. I guess I didn't pull an Irish goodbye on you after all." Quigley played 14 seasons in the WNBA after being selected No. 22 overall by the Seattle Storm in the 2008 draft. However, she was waived by the Storm on May 8 and started her career with the Phoenix Mercury three days later. She spent a short period with the Indiana Fever and San Antonio Stars (now known as the Las Vegas Aces) in 2010 and then played one season with the Storm in 2011. But Quigley is best known for being a Chicago Sky player, having played 10 seasons with the team and winning a WNBA title in 2021. In her retirement announcement, the three-time All-Star delivered a strong message to the WNBA. Advertisement "And lastly … Thank you to the WNBA...," Quigley added. "There's 'after,; when I was a kid who dreamed of making it to the WNBA. And in that sense, I kind of feel like I'm part of this unique generation of players. Where we're the last generation who can remember a time when there wasn't a W. Or to put it another (better) way: We're the last generation who will ever have to remember a time when there wasn't a W. I'm so proud of that." Chicago Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot (22) celebrates with guard Allie Quigley (14).© Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images "And I think there's a pretty cool perspective that comes with it — especially when I look back on how far our league has come since then. I see all these great players like Stewie and Sabrina and A'ja now starting to have signature shoes, and I just think back on how exciting it felt when my mom first bought me a pair of Cynthia Coopers in the late '90s. Or I see kids wearing #14 Quigley jerseys at Sky games, and I just think back on how much wearing a WNBA jersey meant to me when I was a kid (one year my friends and I actually all dressed as W players for Halloween — I wore a bright yellow Lisa Leslie #9 Sparks jersey and thought it was so cool). Or I'll watch the Draft now, and see what a huge deal it's turned into, with the Orange Carpet and prime time on ESPN and everything else" "And then maybe the biggest thing, when I think about how much the W has evolved... I love knowing that these next generations of players are just going to get to play in better and better and better versions of the W." Advertisement Quigley hasn't played in the WNBA since 2022 but continues to have a personal connection to the Sky. She got married to Vandersloot in 2018, who, unfortunately, suffered a torn ACL on Saturday against the Fever. She has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. In Quigley's career, she averaged 10.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. She won the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year twice and won four WNBA Three-Point Shootout competitions. Angel Reese Grabs Attention for Her Outfit Before Chicago Sky Game

Angel Reese Grabs Attention for Her Outfit Before Chicago Sky Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Sky may be struggling, but Angel Reese is not letting it stop her from making a statement off the court. Advertisement Chicago has already lost five of its seven games so far this 2025 WNBA season. The team has one of the worst offenses in the league, ranking 12th (out of 13 teams) in points per game with 77.4 and 11th in field goal percentage with 39.9. Their only wins so far have come against the Dallas Wings, a team that has only won one game this campaign. Entering Tuesday's game against the New York Liberty, the Sky are not expected to win at all. In fact, ESPN's Matchup Predictor gave them just a 12.1% chance to emerge victorious. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (5) looks on during a Krzaczynski-Imagn Images While the odds are stacked against them, it doesn't look like Reese and the rest of the team are bothered or discouraged. That much is clear as the team arrived at Barclays Center in style, showing their own fashion sense. Advertisement Reese, for her part, turned a lot of heads as usual with her business-yet-stylish attire. The WNBA All-Star was seen wearing a black oversized blazer that covered what appeared to be a black dress. The 23-year-old embellished it with a long pearl strand necklace, while also wearing sheer stockings and black pointy stilettos to complete her ensemble. Sure enough, fans loved Reese's attire and took to the comment section to heap praise on her overall look. "Queen Barbie let's go Angel," a commenter wrote on Instagram. Another one said, "They all so pretty, Angel facecard is insane." "Becca and Hailey are giving casual calm and Angel is giving Vogue with a mixture of Old Hollywood," a fan remarked. Advertisement A supporter added, "Barbie is giving Rich Girl Vibes." "Ok sportswomen of the year #ar5," a follower shared, referring to Reese's recent win as Sportswoman of the Year at the 2025 BET Awards. A sixth social media user posted, "Love you Angel! I don't care @angelreese5 what they say!! You are that Barbie."
