Horse racing tips: ‘She'll be better than ever' – Templegate's 9-2 NAP a cut above in classy contest
TEMPLEGATE tackles Friday's quality action looking to build the bank for an epic jumps season finale at Sandown on Saturday.

SEE THE FIRE (2.25 Sandown, nap)
Can burn it up in the Gordon Richards Stakes. Andrew Balding's daughter of Sea The Stars should be better than ever this season despite doing really well as a three-year-old. She went close in a quartet of Group 1 contests, finishing second in the Nassau at Glorious Goodwood and going well in the Sun Chariot before ending the campaign with a creditable effort in the Champion Stakes at Ascot. Balding dropped her out of the highest grade just once and that saw her land a comfortable win in the Group 3 Strensall Stakes at York in August. That was all the better because she showed good pace when coming from out the back. This 1m2f trip is ideal and she won't mind if there's a bit of juice in the ground. This is a decent contest with the classy Almaqam and Winter Derby winner Royal Champion lining up but Oisin Murphy's mount can get the job done.
FAIRLAWN FLYER (2.05 Perth, nb)
Can take the marathon Highland National in front of the ITV cameras. He looks ideal for this stamina test after getting up right on the line at Huntingdon last time. He wasn't stopping at the end of 3m5f at Market Rasen two runs ago when winning with plenty pf petrol left in the tank. He's a solid jumper with more to come. The Bowens can reap the rewards after their long journey from south Wales.
DANCING GEMINI (3.00 Sandown, treble)
Clocked a blistering time when winning the Listed Doncaster Mile on comeback last month. He was quicker than last year's winner Charyn who went on to lift this prize.

World Pool ambassador Ryan Moore talks through his rides on day two of Royal Ascot
MOORE MOORE MOORE World Pool ambassador Ryan Moore talks through his rides on day two of Royal Ascot Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE sun is out and Love is in the air on Day Two. My afternoon kicks off with TRUE LOVE (2.30) in the five-furlong Queen Mary. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Ryan Moore talks through his rides on day two at Ascot Credit: Shutterstock Editorial She has finished second on both starts so far but she is by No Nay Never and is a big, strong filly who will be suited by a strong pace over this trip. SHACKLETON (3.05) needed the run over a mile and a quarter at the Curragh last time and it was a messy race. He will take a step forward for that. You must stay the trip round here and my horse will. Some people out there still doubt LOS ANGELES (4.20) but that doesn't bother me. He's rock solid and I wouldn't swap him for anything. The stiff mile and a quarter at Ascot will suit him well. Anmaat won the Champions Stakes in October and ran well when we fended him off at the Curragh last month. He's an obvious threat. See The Fire has been supplemented at a fair cost and was impressive at York. She is a lovely filly but maybe she is better suited to the Knavesmire rather than here. Map Of Stars was a little unlucky when second in the Prix Ganay and Ombudsman is a talented horse who I've ridden a couple of times. He might not want the ground as quick as it will be today. I'm on THE LIFFEY (5.00) in the Royal Hunt Cup, who has been very well backed. He finished fourth on his first start for Joseph O'Brien in a Listed race at Navan. That form has been franked, as the winner has gone on to win a decent race in France. There's plenty to like about The Liffey, but it's very competitive and lots of yards will think they have a well-handicapped horse. I close with FIRST APPROACH (6.10) as Kansas is a non-runner. He was too keen last time and didn't stay the six furlongs so dropping back in trip is the right move. It looks wide open. Ryan Moore is a World Pool ambassador

Three wagers for day two of Royal Ascot
The Grade 1 Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot today (4.20 p.m.) is an intriguing contest in which five of the nine runners are priced up at 6-1 or less. Los Angeles and Anmaat will renew their rivalry from the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh last month when the former beat the latter by half a length. That form, with highly-rated rivals Kalpana in third and White Birch in fourth, looks red hot and so it is not surprising to see these two horses at the top of the market today for this 10-furlong race worth £600,000 to the winning connections. However, at the prices, I am going to side with the horse that was supplemented last week or this race – at a cost of £70,000 – SEE THE FIRE. Andrew Balding's four-year-old filly has long been the apple of her handler's eye and it was easy to see why last time out when she routed seven opponents in a Grade 2 contest at York, with the second horse beaten all of 12 lengths. Today's rivals are a good bit better than any horses she faced last month but I think she will handle the step up in class today. The French raider Map of Stars and the John and Thady Gosden-trained Ombudsman are also in with big chances of landing this prize but one point each way See The Fire is the suggestion at 5-1. She is that price with most bookies. Kevin Ryan is a Northern trainer who loves to target Royal Ascot and with plenty of success over the years too. The Royal Hunt Cup (5 p.m.), a 30-runner race run over the straight mile, is one of the most competitive contests of the week but I hope Ryan and jockey Clifford Lee can land it with SISYPHEAN. There was plenty to like about the four-year-old colt's seasonal debut at York last month when the heavily-backed, race-fit Old Cock beat him by just half a length. This stiff mile at Ascot should suit him perfectly as he was tried over further last season, admittedly with mixed results. Back Sisyphean one point each way at 20-1 with BetVictor, paying five places. If there is the proverbial group horse masquerading as a handicapper in today's field, then it is almost certainly the Roger Varian trained My Cloud but 7-2 seems plenty short enough in a race in which almost every runner has a shout. Sadly, my ante-post tip Native Warrior did not make the cut for this race but stakes will be returned as he was declared for the race at the 48-hour decs stage. I have already put up Spicy Marg each way at 16-1 for the opening race today, the Queen Mary Stakes (2.30 p.m.) for two-year-old fillies over five furlongs. She's a good bit shorter now and so I am happy enough with that bet. According to the betting, two horses should dominate the race: the Aidian O'Brien trained True Love and the Karl Burke trained Zelaina. True Love was a close second at Navan last month behind yesterday's impressive Coventry Stakes winner Gstaad. Zelaina was impressive first time out at Nottingham earlier this month. Both market leaders have solid form but they have some really excellent rivals in today's field and this is far from a two-horse race. Trainer Ralph Beckett's Society Kiss equalled the two-year-old course record on her seasonal debut at Ascot and she must have a huge chance today, while Shine on Me can out-run her odds of 50-1 for handler Archie Watson. However, for my second bet in this race I am siding with STAYA for the George Scott/Callum Shepherd trainer/jockey combination. At the weekend, Scott was adamant that this expensive filly – a 375,000 guineas buy – was his best chance of a Royal Ascot winner and there was plenty to admire about her win at Yarmouth last month in a fast time. Given how well Scott's runner Caballo De Mar ran yesterday, it says a lot that the handler thinks Staya has an even better chance today. So back her one point each way at 16-1, that price with BetVictor, Ladbrokes, Coral and Unibet, all paying four places. My two tips for the race, Spicy Marg and Staya, are drawn next to each other in stalls five and four respectively and so there should be plenty of speed on that side of the track. I hope the two fillies will bring out the best in each other. Yesterday certainly went well enough for this blog with winners at 25-1 and 16-1 So that is four horses for the blog at Royal Ascot today, by chance all beginning with the letter 's'. I am going to leave today's other races alone betting wise and simply enjoy watching them. Finally, CABALLO DE MER, who was second yesterday in the Copper Horse at Royal Ascot to a very well handicapped rival, is such a tough, robust horse that I expect he may turn out again on Saturday week in the Northumberland Plate. The trip and all-weather surface will be perfect for him so Paddy Power, SkyBet and Betfair are taking a risk leaving him at 10-1 for the race on 28 June. Back him two points win at 10-1. I have already put up two outsiders for this race but, hey-ho, this is a good bet too so having three horses in the same race does not worry me at all. Yesterday certainly went well enough for this blog with winners at 25-1 and 16-1 (10p in the £ deduction for the non runner) and a couple of seconds as well from the six runners. Thanks for the appreciative messages in the comment section. I will be back tomorrow with my thoughts for day three, including the horse that I consider to be my best bet of the week even though it runs in a hugely-competitive handicap. Yesterday: + 43.26 points. 1 point each way Docklands at 25-1 for the Queen Anne, paying 1/5th odds, 3 places. 1st. + 30 points. 1 point each way American Affair at 16-1 for the King Charles III, paying 1/5th odds, 4 places. 1st. +17.46 points (10p in the £ deduction for the non runner). 1 point each way Mgheera at 9-1 for the King Charles III, paying 1/5th odds, 4 places. No negatives for Los Angeles in Prince of Wales's Stakes
Aidan O'Brien's charge won the Irish Derby last season and went on to be a meritorious third to Bluestocking in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, when attempting to make all the running. Already a Group One winner this season, when he had the reopposing Anmaat behind him in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, he looks to have a rock-solid chance. 'He's just as happy over 10 or 12 furlongs, that's what we've always thought with him. He's only run over 10 this year and he's been happy,' said O'Brien. A special performance from Los Angeles, who found another gear to reign Anmaat back in, handing Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore the Tattersalls Gold Cup 👏@Tattersalls_ie — The Curragh Racecourse (@curraghrace) May 25, 2025 'In the first half of the season this race was always the plan and he seems in good form since the last day, everything has gone well up to now. 'He's run on all types of ground, it all comes alike to him 'He's very happy to have competition for the lead, there'll be pace on, everybody knows that. He needs a strong run mile and a quarter, we all know that, and he loves a battle.' Owen Burrows' Anmaat is now seven but last year's Champion Stakes winner proved at the Curragh he is still as good as ever. Connections would not want the ground to be too fast, however. 'We will be keeping an eye on the ground. We've declared with a view to running but if the lads came in and said it was riding very quick, we'd have to talk about it,' said Angus Gold, of owners Shadwell. Anmaat was something of a surprise winner of the Champion Stakes (Nigel French/PA) 'He is our star of the year and we have to do the right thing, we need him for the end of the year as well as now but he's second favourite for one of the biggest races at Royal Ascot, so we want to run while he's in good form. I very much hope we'll be there. 'I don't want to be seen to be making a fuss, I'm a great believer in fast-ground horses being able to have their ground, it's just he's had his issues and we don't want to do anything to jeopardise him – but we're hoping to run.' Reflecting on his previous issues, Gold said: 'He's a testament to a lot of people and the horse himself. What he had two years ago would have finished a lot of horses, so the fact that not only was he able but also willing to come back from it is a huge credit to him. He's been a star for us.' John and Thady Gosden's Ombusdman lost his unbeaten record in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes to Almaqam but enhanced his reputation and goes up in class again. 'He got a little bit tired in the ground and the winner is a very smart horse who was getting 3lb from our horse and got the run of the race,' said John Gosden of the Godolphin runner. 'Our horse had to come from off the pace, but Ryan (Moore) was very pleased with him. We had the question of whether we go to the Wolferton or the Prince of Wales's, but the owner was pretty keen on this race. 'You are basically looking at the Tattersalls Gold Cup form for a guide to the race and then there's a nice French horse (Map Of Stars), so we'll see how we get on.' The aforementioned French horse is Wathnan Racing's Map Of Stars, trained by Francis-Henri Graffard and only beaten a neck by the high-class Sosie last time out. 'He's a colt we've held in high regard the whole way along and both times he has been beaten it has probably been through no fault of his own,' said Wathnan's Richard Brown. 'He will probably go on the ground and James (Doyle) said when he won the Prix d'Harcourt, it was pretty quick that day and he showed a good turn of foot so that's what we hope we'll see again. 'The Sosie form from the Ganay looks red hot and he has since come out and won the Prix d'Ispahan and is one of the favourites for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. It's high level form, but he will need to improve again to win a Prince of Wales's.'
